how important do you think it is to eat cottage cheese or another casein protein source before bed?
It’s helped me a lot while bulking, I tend to sleep for 10-11 hours a night so I usually eat 3 servings of cottage cheese (whatever half the tub is, about 270 calories if I remember correctly) and then drink a shit load of water and go to bed. About 4-5 hours later I wake up and have to piss. I slam a pre-made Metabolic Drive shake and am back to sleep within 3-4 minutes. I tried setting an alarm but that kinda shocked me and I couldn’t get back to sleep, the water/pissing thing is much better.
I’m growing a lot more leaner and bigger than I was without it.

does it help your body from being catabolic at night though? i dont plan on waking up in the middle of the night to take anything but will the casein protein have a significant affect on keeping more muscle during the night?

yep, thats the basic idea. anti-catabolism through slowly-released protein. i ALWAYS have a casein shake before bed.
i just ate me some grilled chicken and cottage cheese… time for bed! i think the fat content also helps slow down digestion even more
I’m quite sure it wont hurt for sure!! I usualy have CC for part of a meal and even a snack, for my daily diet intake. I HATE CC for that matter!! But, I eat it knowing it packs a punch as far as the protein ratio goes.
I find that the “Dry Curd” type is best, it is higher than reg CC in regards to Protein, and its lower on fat/calories/carbs than 1%…its like .5% for the dry curd. I find I have to mix something with it to be able to get it down or ill puke…usually its a spoonful of organic PB or even a whole fried egg so the yolk blends it in a bit.
I’ve even used it for a meal, like somekinda “anabolic goop”…I mix in:
1 Cup dry curd CC
1 tbs natural PB
2 whole eggs, + 1 egg white (from the skillet)
1 cup chopped Green beans
… it all goes down easy, taste pretty good and gives me just about anything I would need, even for a PWO meal. Its hard though to get dry curd around where I live but I did find one store that has it, “Safeway” usualy has it too from what I hear.

thanks i just spent 15min. reading an advertisement for another Biotest product.
according to that article though it seems like Berardi agrees with the fact that cottage cheese before bed would be a good idea. Doesnt say how much of a real life impact it would have though
i eat it every night with natural PB. a nice snack i find, tough to find anything that compares. unless you don’t mind eating a piece of meat or something.

try it with cinnamon and stevia (or splenda i guess). i do that and i love it.
with work now it sucks cause meal 5 is mainly fish for protein and meal 6 is CC and eggs for protein. thats good but since i need to make a shake for work meal 6 blends so easily and obviously i’m not going to blend fish lol so that meal becomes meal 6 and that means no CC before bed :(. i guess i could have it in both meals but i’d have to switch other things around too cause i’m already having CC in 2 other meals.

My point was not to promote their products, although I highly recommend them, but rather to show the negative consequences of falling asleep on an empty stomach. It’s a great protein powder that promotes anabolism throughout the night, as does cottage cheese and p.b. or nut butter. Go with whatever you prefer.

Cool tip…ill have to give that a go for another option…God, I just hate the texture of that shit though LOL … but Ive learned to eat for fuel and not pleasure now a days, makes it harder to be a Chef though
2 cups of cottage cheese
1 1/2 cups of spinach
2-3 tbsp of peanut butter
some fish oils
perfect pre-bed meal.
It has fats, fiber, and casein for slow digestion and barely any carbs to spike insulin. The Spinach helps offset the acidic nature of cottage cheese to, if you are concerned about your acid/base balance. It also has one of the highest ORAC ratings for veggies.

damn thats probably around 700 calories right before bed. i guess someone needing less could have smaller portions though. sounds good.
ok i’ll try to get cottage cheese before bed then.
if there are some nights when i dont have it will that have a significantly negative effect or is having it just a little push in the right direction?
I could never stomach cottage cheese. Always wound up using it once or twice then I’d stop because the texture and taste and all that made me want to boot.
Then, I started blending it in the blender with some chocolate Metabolic Drive and a little touch of natural p.b., and now I’ve been using it for months. You barely even taste it that way. It just adds a nice texture to the shake.

I have made good gains both eating cottage cheese before bed and not eating cottage cheese before bed.
With this it is about doing as many of the things that may promote recovery or protein synthesis as you can. It may amount to gain or it may amount to nothing. Time will tell.

Once again, all of this is person dependent. I honestly think that if you are trying to grow you should take casein protein before bed every night regardless, but that is just what works for me.
there’s really nothing magical about cottage cheese. Any sort of meat/protein (with the exception of maybe egg whites or straight up whey) will be fine. Pair it with a healthy fat and maybe some fibrous veggies and your set for the night. If cottage cheese is what floats your boat, then thats great but it is definitely not a must have, nor will it give you any signifcantly different results than a meat and some fat.
Cottage cheese tastes so bad! But I have it before bed anyway.
