Hey guys, I’ve JUST started powerlifting but I have a couple years experience in lifting behind me. My issue is, even with a 5-7 meal diet, high protein, high carb, moderate fat… I’m suddenly seeing mass gains coming slower than they used to. I’m 5’9, 216, I wouldn’t mind being around 225. My body doesn’t respond to creatine, so right now I’m just taking half the recommended dose of Muscle Juice and whey protein for supplements, plus BCAA’s.
What stack would you recommend for someone like me who has a diet down pat, but needs the extra help of a supplement ?
Stats:
Dlift: 425
Squat:415
Bench:265
Also, are these weak for my size ? I used to be a member at bb.com and one guy was just straight out roasting me on my lifts saying they should be way higher, despite only been training seriously for the last year, and never doing a powerlifting routine before until now (5-3-1).
You can’t gain mass unless you have a caloric surplus. No supplement can overcome not eating enough calories. The thing is as you get stronger your metabolism increases and you burn more calories per training session. You have to keep increasing the calories to keep gaining mass.
I have been though for the past while… I understand that the calories have to keep going up as I keep lifting more and more… but as a powerlifter, what stack or product would you recommend ?
Here’s what I’m interpreting from your post, your mass gains have continued but have slowed. You would like them to speed up again. Eating more is the key to the equation like was stated by Marcus above but I’m assuming your question is more like what supplements will make you grow faster? The answer is none. Mass gain is naturally limited(gear being somewhat of an exception), but if you’re not optimizing your recovery or nutrition you may have some untapped potential that will “speed it up” again to an extent. Sleep and food will go a hell of a long way. If you happen to have some nutrition holes stuff like fish oil (ie.Flameout)and minerals(ie. ZMA, Elitepro) are cheap dietary insurance that help a ton. A pick me up preworkout helps (caffeine, beta alanine,) with some carbs, and making sure again that your diet is solid and consistent is really the only true method of gaining mass faster.
Yeah you understood it 100% steeljunkie. Well I I’ll log my diet for you guys for the next week then bump this thread with the weekly intakes, then if somethings off or i Should add more then I’ll do so. Thanks for the article, I’ll read it now !
You think I’m joking but I’m not. Buy a bunch of the little McCain cheesecakes (I prefer the chocolate swirl), there’s about 2000 cals in each one. Cut it into 4 slices, eat one as a midmorning snack and another in the evening, save the second half for tomorrow. Easy, not very filling and it adds 1000 cals just like that. Eat as normal for the rest of the day. It’s like magic.

Any supplements that help you gain mass most likely have calories in them. So really these magic supplements are just a type of food and your still gaining by eating more.
guy are you joking? if you have a couple years experience then you should know that a “stack” of supplements is not going to make you gain weight. eat more, thats it.
matsm21, my mistake. I don’t mean to seem reliant on the stack at all. I shouldn’t have even asked for a stack in the first place… I’m moreso on the market for a gainer. I’m on muscle juice right now, I’ll get through this 13lbs, but would you recommend anything afterwards ? Something higher cal or just general a better grade ?
astar, I’m not looking for your typical powerlifting physique. I’m doing as much as I can to stay as lean as possible too… will cheesecake overrule these goals ?
I didn’t keep track monthly of how much I was gaining, but I was growing noticeably fast and it just seemed to slow down all of a sudden. Like I haven’t seen the results I’d like to.
I’ll finish off this weeks diet log and post it when it’s complete and we’ll figure out if I need another meal or something.
dude reeses cups sandwiched between 2 oreos eat like 15 of those a night, and wash it down with some whole milk and olive oil. you will gain weight. you’ll be lean enough.
How many grams of carbs, proteins, and fats are you taking in daily?
IS the food your eating nutrient dense?
Hows your sleep?
Is there any stress in your life?
OP, There is so many factors that you need to take a look at EVERYTHING that could POSSIBLY a factor for you not to gain weight.
I know that I was gaining too much fat and I took a look at alot of shit, and I realized that my GPP wasnt up to par, and I was taking in almost 1000 unneeded grams carbohydrates, and not enough protien. With that simple change, I lost almost 10 pounds, with just taking a look at all my possible factors.
aminos for recovery, thats about all I’d use. everyone hits a point where they have to go to somewhat extreme measures to keep gaining. when I hit that wall, I started the gallon of 2% milk a day. then I would do shots of olive oil. I started making my shakes with liquid egg whites. If you really want to get bigger, those are the things you need to do. You won’t stay really lean, but if you do it right and train right, you won’t get too fat either.
Eat a dozen eggs a day (I get 2 dozen Grade A Large at Meijer for $2.21) and drink a gallon of milk a day. If you still have trouble gaining weight then you’re a liar
