According to the NSCA, if you can bench 148% of BW then you are in the 90th percentile. That means that you are stronger p4p then 90% of the world.
I would guess a 200% bw bench would be around the 99th percentile.

I am benching 280 and weight 145. 10 more pounds til I can do double my body weight. Anyone know about what % of people can do that? I’m just curious[/quote]
A friend of mine held the teenage powerlifting record for benching 409lbs at 148lbs in college.
He’s won many powerlifting awards and switched to Olympic lifting 10-12 years ago and still ranks in the top 3 nationally. If he competed in the Master’s, he’d be number one with no serious competitors (he’s 40), but he doesn’t feel the need to do so and continues to compete against many of the country’s top Olympic lifters in the 69kg weight class.
My best is 225lbs at 155lbs bodyweight. I’m 5’4" with long, thin, skinny little arms.
Hey, just wanted to say that I just hit a new PR today! 355 lbs at 198.
270 weighing 180
225 x 10 reps @ 175 but 345 squats x 10!
I never max out, way to injured for that stuff these days.
I too have very long arms, I recently have been training ( only about 1 month of training so far ) and am at 265 at 275. Yes it’s probably very weak but Im still pretty new, I hope to be hitting over 300 end of year.

I’m not sure but isnt the only reason you do max is to set up a good workout plan? Like based off percentage of your max?

No, max effort attempts are key to powerlifting, as well as for anyone who is trying to get stronger.
For the average lifter, not every session needs to end with a max lift, but there are certainly times when you will be lifting in the 1-3 rep range, and really testing your limits. And for PL’ers, well that’s what the whole ME day is all about.

sum’ bitch, I’m impressed
newb…
205x1@165
165x6…In about 4-5 weeks I am going to boost that up to 225.
I tore my chest 2 years ago maxing out. I’m done with any low reps. Its not the best way to train by any means but I’m still hitting it.
Where should my max be at if im doing 225 x10? I’m guessing 275-300 or around that range.

I agree with you unearth, all these guys much be talking shit. cmon. I am 176lbs and I am benching 210lbs which ok i guess but realistic, these guys are just talking out their asses unless ofcourse they post a video.
My god, there is so much bullshit in this thread lol.
btw, 417 @ 158
New PR today, 385 lb at 216 lb bw.

lol come on man. Which one sounds unrealistic? Go to any gym and you’ll find 2 dozen people able to perform most of these lifts.

I don’t know Chris…I look around my gym and don’t see anyone doubling their bodyweight on bench press. Obviously there are some people out there that can, but it’s an impressive feat, and there certainly are quite a few people here that say they can.
Of course, the majority of people who are going to post their number here are the wannabees and those with truly impressive lifts, so anything is possible.

come to cali bro! =)
I just got back to 350, and I weigh 185 (with the help of CT).
My heaviest bench was 355, but I was 195 at the time.
My best lb for lb was 335 at 148 (in a Navy PL competition).
All raw so far. My best shirted bench was 375 when my raw was around 340.
(I need practice in a shirt).
