Hi everybody, I am doing a project in my statistics class where I am comparing people’s 1RM bench press with body weight. I have to collect about 60 data points. I was wondering if you could help me out by posting your stats (body weight and 1RM on bench)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

315 with a pause
BW 165 lbs
~275 @ 175
by the way, everyones gonna be different. arm length (and distance to move the bar) are a big factor here. but i understand the curiousity…just to kind of see where ya stand.
245@174
255@160
Unfortunately, not where I want it…I havent been training for strength, but Im sure you need some people on the lower end of the spectrum.
200lbs at 175lbs
325 (with a pause if anyone gives a sh-t) @ 200 bodyweight
235 with BW of 145
260 lbs. @ 170 lbs bodyweight.
470 Max bench at 235.5
390 @ 300lbs
415lbs @ 248lbs bw. (yes, that’s with a press(pause) and rack call w/o a shirt)

What subset of the population are you trying to find out about? The results from this board will be waaaaaaay out of line with the vast majority of the population.
180lbs @ 220lbs (here ya go, my pathetic result to bring down the average!)
posting this question is no way to get the data points for your statistics class. you know the majority of people on here exercise frequently. that makes the data you’re taking here biased to an extent, because you know these numbers are going to differ your overall data from the general positive correlation between 1RM and bodyweight. you should just try to get random people where you don’t know if they exercise any and ask them this question. my advice would be to get a list of all the male students in the school, then use the random number generator (your stats book is likely to have the generator in there somewhere) to pick 60 names. call those 60 names in and pose this same question. i’m sure an administrator would allow you to pull them out of class for a quick meet up to fill this stuff out. good luck with your project.
Thank you guys so much for your help. I know this is a very biased way of collecting data and my points are goin to be very near the high end. My comparison is actually between males at my gym, but I am having trouble getting numbers from the sales staff. That was my intent, to get a phone list, call a ton of them, then use a random numbers table for selecting my data.
I guess I am just getting nervous b/c I haven’t gotten the list yet, so I am using these points to cover my ass. Thanks again, keep em’comming!
