Bench Max vs. Body Weight

280@ 180lbs

You really must question the valitity of the data posted. What question are you trying to answer? The general population will have no idea of their bench as they don’t workout. That said, your question must deal with a resistance trained population and you should go to a gym and see if you can get some random volunteers to test. Cuz you know the fish I caught was twenty feet long right? Even then, all you have done is come up with an index for that gym with a population willing to be publicly tested.

Good luck though.

9 million lbs @ a bodyweight of 155. WITH a pause.

Jk… 250 @ bw of 155

best raw comp bench-480 at 220lbs (this is a past all time best, I no longer do conventional benches, but still go heavy on inclines)

405 @ 290

275 1RM @ 233 BW. I know, I know…not exactly world class, but a PR for me (last night in fact). And hey, look at my handle for crying out loud. You would expect more from “Manly Pumpmeister” or “Jock4Life” or something, but “bandgeek”? Come on, gimme a break here!!!

And yes, that IS me in the Avatar

dbd: those results sound way off. I know I’m weak, but I seriously doubt I’m in the bottom 10% or so of the population.

It’s dcb, but that’s no big deal.

Since I don’t know what your age is, I can’t tell you what percentile you fall into. You’re only close to the 10th percentile if you’re between 20-29 years old though.

Regarding the data that I presented, all I can say is that I trust it. The ACSM is a very well respected organization in the field of Exercise Physiology. The data was collected in the early 90’s when people were a little less fat than they are today. So maybe it’s off a little by today’s ultra chubby standards, but not by that much. In absolute terms, you’re bench press strength is probably pretty high compared to the average person, but so is your weight, hence your low strength ratio. No worries, just get better!

Actually if you look at many of the results posted on this thread you’ll see that many people who replied are at or near the top percentiles that I posted. That would indicate that the data was probably collected from a random sample as most people do not train as intelligently or as hard as the average person on this forum.

I agree. I think that ratio does reflect fairly accurately the average strength level in the population. If you fall in at the lower 10% of the population according to that, I suggest you spend some quality time working on strength and muscle weight gains. It seems many on this board have become more interested in whether their abs show than rather they actually have any decent strength or overall size to speak of.

Oh sure, ask about my weakest lift. Don’t ask about my 400lb deadlift or anything.
