Hope I got the right place to ask this, but does anyone know were to get a bamboo bench press bar? Just restarted my heavy lock out day and another day using bands, and would like to incorporate the bamboo in there too. Thanks
I would be glad to make one for you for $180 shipped
Or you could just buy a $15 bamboo pole and loop the bands around the ends. http://www.beautifulbamboo.com/poles.php

That’s pretty cool, do they have a given weight limit?
I have access to babmboo, what is the point of it? does it have to do with flex?

Yes, it’s even more unstable in your hands than kettlebell bench presses with a normal bar.

and this will increase my stable bench? What is the idea with the unstable training?
lol no offense to those guys cause I’m sure they are strong sob’s…but that stuff seems absoluely POINTLESS and most ppl lifting are waiting for an injury doing that.

Ironically enough, I use it to recover from injuries and to make my shoulders feel a little better when they get beat up. The weight used rarely exceeds 100 lbs, so unless you drop it on your face I don’t think any injuries are in the making.
Bamboo benching trains the stabilizers in your benching muscles, and are also for rehab, as mentioned. The stabilizer/synergist muscles aid the primary muscles in compound lifts. Thus, the more you can work and strengthen the stabilizer/synergist muscle, the more you can stimulate the primary muscle fibers, equaling faster muscle gain. Bamboo may not be for every lifter and isnt for every bench session, but can be very useful to the serious/competitive lifter. The idea here is directly related to the idea that free weights and compound movements add more mass faster than machines because of the need to stablize the weight, as opposed to isolating the muscle.

Not really, but the average tensile strength is greater than most steel alloys. It’ll handle a hundred or so pounds without blinking.
We use a PVC pipe for the same thing. Most people think they are tight when they bench. They aren’t tight at all.
Soooo stability and bosu ball training is ghey, but bamboo pressing’s the next big thing? Presumably cos Louie says so?

I was thinking that really loudly.

LOL.
I for one like the bamboo pressing (or Parkinson’s press, errr) as a secondary exercise on my DE bench day. Three or four sets of 15-20 reps really torches my upper back and really helps me stay tight.
FWIW, I just watched the video, and when we use it… our reps look like Louie’s in that video. We’re not all over the place like most of the lifters in that video. Once you’re shaking all over like that, you can’t stay tight.

Bamboo benching looks cooler.

Anything that works is not “ghey”. The apparent semi-consensus across the interwebs seems to be that stability training can be useful for rehab, and in small quantities when instability is applied at the upperbody (stability ball db bench, bar on back, bar in arms) yet not when applied underfoot (except maybe for surf/snowboard training or something).
What do you think? It’s all ghey? It’s all not ghey?
Training for the Los Angeles Earthquake Olympics? Gheyer than a San Francisco tea party.
Training for the Suspended Wrestling Midget Bench Press Nationals? C’mon, dude. That’s pure awesomeness.
Pure…
Awesomeness.
