300 is also a goal of mine. Son Light Power has meets in town about 2 or 3 times a year and they have a wheelchair division. The next meet is Oct. 11th.
Out of the 16 states that SLP has listed:
11 states have NO wheelchair records.
ONLY one person has benched 300+. SHW, Stephen Matzek has 3 records in Kentucky for 350lbs.
The next closest record on file is 275 lbs.
Oct. 11th is my D-day. I’ll be lifting shirted, but eventually want 300 and then 315 raw.

Ever since I’ve started using sheiko, all of my lifts have gone up… Bench, CG Bench, Squat, GMs, but not deadlift. I have a lot of work to do on that.
Hanley, I found the 303 VERY easy oddly enough. I always seem to have a little extra gas in the tank when I max on bench and squat in conjunction with sheiko.
Caesar, there is a bench only routine, but I can’t for the life of me remember the site. Maybe someone else here will. it also has the other sheiko routines and some other stuff on it.[/quote]
I would do barbell rows and build up triceps with closegrips and shoulder presses
keep things basic
the other thing is to do a westside try speed one day lift 50% of est raw max 3 reps of 8-10 sets as fast as possible and max lifting another but change exercise every couple of weeks.

4est Have you competed in the org. before? If not and have any questions feel free to ask, I’ve done two or three of their meets.
My bench for some reason blew up in the last 3 months… going from struggling to hit 245 lbs for 3-5 reps to a current 335 lbs x 3. (I’m now 6’1"ish, 205 lbs). It’s weird because I’ve never focused on bench and I am definitely not built to bench (kinda tall, long arms).
I remember when I first loaded up those 3 plates a few weeks ago… I just sat there and stared thinking “Damn, I’m really about to lift this.” I was hoping I’d get a double, but I got out 4 on my own and my spot helped me through the 5th. Felt awesome.
Also, something that I think helped me in the long run was introduced to me by a national level NPC junior that I train/hang out with. Back when I was putting up 255, he spot me on my first 2 sets and got mad because he didn’t think I was even close to needing any help (not true, but whatever). So he “made” me throw on 275 lbs (which looks a lot scarier than 255) and made me do it. I got out maybe 3 reps alone, and I couldn’t hit 275 the next session, but I think in the long run the shock on my body helped me break through any plateaus. So if you’re close to hitting 3 plates, just load it up, have a good spotter, and in time the reps will be all yours.
I passed the 300 pound mark earlier this year. I began lifting in august of 07 with a 1 rep max at 245 and this week my new 1 rep max was 425. I found that once I passed the 315 barrier my max flew through the 300’s.
It took me 1 1/2 years to get to 300. I started when I was 24 and just kept hammering away at it. The only time I’ve noticed monster jumps in my Raw PR’s is when I’ve been doing heavy dumbbell presses and lifting heavy with bands.
It takes time. It takes work and then it takes more work. I’ve had so many plateaus, set backs and interferences that it makes my head spin.
I’ve been doing this for about 5 1/2 years now and I just hit 370 (at 248) a week ago (and to be honest it probably would have been redlighted). That should give you some indication of the amount of time that goes into it.
I got 280 on Monday and 285 today. I’ll be 38 in 2 weeks and weigh 205.
I was stuck at 255/260 for a while (4 or 5 months) and went backwards because of a left shoulder injury.
My latest progress has been made doing doubles and triples for 2 weeks followed by 1 rep max for 2 weeks. I’m going back to doubles and triples for a week and will try 290 and 295 on my Bday if I can get 3 triples @ 260 next week.
I hate to be a dick, but I think most of the guys trying to get to 300 need to stop thinking about it like a magic number. I’m not saying it doesnt take work to get to but stop treating it like its the top of the mountain.
I use to think the same way and after I got 315 for 5 I realized that it wasn’t enough and it wasn’t special anymore. 405 is the next goal and when I hit that I’ll probably quit thinking about it being so wonderful and going for higher…
Moral of the story, don’t treat it like the accomplishment of a lifetime, let everyone else tell you you’re amazing, and trust me they will, just don’t let it go to your ego…

I don’t think any one on here thinks its some magic number. Its just a common goal. Just like 405 is your goal. Why 405…obviously because its another plate. Does that make it any different than 400? 300?

We dont threat it as a accomplisement of a lifetime at all.
Its just a goal and on this thread we follow our progress, give some tips and its for fun…one of good thing about internet…not just bashing…and if yo dont like the thread, just read another one…

agreed its only a stepping stone but its still a realistic accomplishment . . would you rather they had a goal of 400 but some of them wont get it or will be a long time gettin it and may lose interest. . . just a thought. . its a i dont wanna be a nerd and quote principles of training but ‘SMART’ springs to mind
SPECIFC
MEASUREABLE
ATTAINABLE
REALISTIC
TIME CONSTRAINED
i think thats the way it goes. . . ? correct me if im wrong. . .
blabla i feel like a teacher im gonna go jump off a bridge
fuck yes just smashed the 300lbs barrier, last week i got 135kg for one rep, tonight got 140kg for one rep. seemed easier than 135kg, guess i had a great set up. im now gunna relax a little on maxing, next goal 120kg for reps on incline bench
