Workload Problem?

I’m one workout away from finishing up korte’s 3x3 volume portion and it has been very humbling. For ease of explaining lets just say the program is 4 weeks of 5x5 three times a week. I ran into a huge surprise this last month, my 5x5 lifts are that of when my max was at least a hundred pounds less. Back when i squatted 425ish and deadlifted about 500, my 5x5 on each were 405 and 365 which is about where they are at now squatting about 550 and deadlifting around 650.

Is this a problem? I understand that it’s not optimal but my lifts have faired ok without increasing it. Since I have no meets in the near future and my lifts are kind of slowing down at the moment should i work on increasing the 5x5 numbers for the future?

Is your goal to have a higher 1 rep max or a higher 5x5 rep max?

1 rep haha, I’m not sure if your being sarcastic or not.

The only thing that isnt clicking as far as answering my own question is that I am sure that someone who squats 800 pounds who never did 5x5 could do more than someone who does nothing but 5x5 with a 400 pound max. It appears simple but shouldn’t that fact that my 1 rep increased alot but my 5x5 stalled raise somesort of a red flag?

You suck at doing 5x5. That’s all. What’s the problem? If you haven’t spent time doing 5x5, or much volume at all, you’re not going to be good at it. It’s that simple.

If you’re finding the volume challenging, then so be it. The real gains from that program will be realized during the peaking cycle.

Not sarcastic at all. If your goal was to increase your 5x5, I would say you definitely had a good reason to want to change, but otherwise, I don’t see why your 5x5 numbers should be a concern.
