If any of the ladies here ever get their car batteries replaced and if you can, SAVE THE OLD ONE. Hubby and I replaced both of our car batteries and for whatever reason I went, “Think I’m gonna use those for farmers carries.” They’re just heavy enough to become a nuisance if you walk with them for long enough.

Even if you just manage one they’re pretty good for unilateral stuff too. Balance/stability… all that.

Also…if anyone wants pointers on how to use their own car for sled pulling…I gotcha. I used to do it a few years ago with my Nissan (somewhere up in my log), and I’m just now getting back into, only this time my husband now has a truck and I’ve taken it upon myself to now get good at dragging it around. I can’t pull it super far (maybe 20 good steps), but I can definitely push it.

I have no idea how useful this is though

It’s kinda ehh in my own eyes. But in reality I’m doing pretty good.

I think I’m doing too much by way of volume AND intensity, to the point my knees aren’t doing too well. Past two months my knees are just angry all the time.

I do see a sports medicine doctor, and have been grafted into the group that my husband is apart of. Hubby does BMX, and his buddies recommended him to a chiropractor/massage place, so I got booted in.

I also realized that I’m gonna have to rearrange my squatting frequency. For the past few years I’ve had my squatting frequency hover around 4 times a week. Would be fine if I wasn’t always using near maximal numbers, and would be better if I didn’t use those numbers in such a high rep range. But I’ve been combining heavy percentages with high volume/frequency and kinda got addicted to doing that lol.

On the bright side I have been able to take note my bench press, which I thought was suffering, but actually hasn’t been. Yesterday night I managed a 190lb max (with like an entire rep to spare), and hadn’t rotated my bench press in for almost 2 entire weeks. Haven’t hit 190 since I last was peaking for a meet. In my head I thought “Huh…weird.” But after looking back at my logs here, and ones I keep in my notes I realized that the volume doesn’t really need to come strictly from the big 3 lifts, and more from those secondary/variation lifts.

But even more so I think I’m now at a point where I fully understand Conjugation methods so it’s become easier to program. Only thing I have to do now is let it seep into my squat and deadlift. With squatting, I am the most stubborn though. I’ve been so used to ridiculously high amounts of volume with JUST a barbell, that doing anything else feels “less than”…so to speak.

But I think going back and actually programming with a much stronger grasp will also give me a lot more room to grow.

I did manage to test out surge. I had Hubby buy for me from Amazon since I wanted the free shipping. I like surge, it just screws with my stomach, but almost every single workout drink does, so I didn’t really care. I think I just have a sensitive stomach really. I’m lactose intolerant and lactose free milk still hurts my stomach lol.

I don’t think I’ve used surge long enough to really reap the benefits though.

The other thing I’ve been doing is drinking those liquid IV pouches which are really good too.

If I don’t do either of those two, I usually just fall back on eating. Not till the point of being full but enough to have some steady energy.

My stomach is very sensitive too and I can’t even look at dairy products without getting sick haha.

Try mixing the Surge with more water and start sipping it 30-40min before your workout. I don’t like having a lot of liquid in my stomach so I drink about 1/3 before my workout, 1/3 during and 1/3 after… maybe that will help you! Do some experimenting and see what works for you.

I can train a lot longer and harder when I use it, I always want to keep going and going. “Just one more exercise…”

I really started noticing the difference when I started taking it on my mountain bike rides… my times have been much faster for the gruelling climbs up the mountain because I can go faster and don’t have to stop for as many breaks.

Oh wow! You’re right… you might need to make a few changes and your knees will be thanking you for it. For me twice a week is more than enough… one workout includes regular competition squat and the other is some other kind of squat variation.

Scaling back and taking breaks is always a mental strain but if you want to continue competing for a long time it’s necessary!

Congrats! That’s awesome :sunglasses:

That’s so cool! Does he race or freestyle bmx?

My oldest loves BMX… I thought it would be a good idea for me to get another BMX to ride with him and I did but then realized how much I suck. I can’t even do any simple tricks anymore hahah (old lady! :older_woman:)

Silly girl… your lifts are pretty damn good!

How is your nutrition plan going? Are you still trying to eat more?

So I decided to go for a similar program. I did run a 5/3/1 in the past. My knee does not like the once a week lift. My broken up body is thinking the same too. I stiffen up very fast.

Give me your LATS!!! Mine have been hiding for literally my entire life lol

Have you tried rock climbing? I don’t any more, but a few years of climbing absolutely added some mass to my lats, I am just building on that at this point.

Once upon a time I used to. Nothing really consistently, but just for fun. Given I pay more attention to it, I would.

Freestyle mostly. He just strings together a bunch of things and then shows me. He’s like “Look! I hit a double cab 540 barspin!” And I’m just like “Awesome! What the heck is a double cab?” Lol
