Female strength athletes are judged on their performance, and how well they execute their lifts, just like the men are. She is an athlete, not a beauty contestant.

If you have no appreciation or understanding for this sport, post elsewhere.

Wow way to make totally irrelevant and asinine comment.

I am going for a “close to 2x BW” conventional deadlift on Tuesday… I weigh 158ish and I am going for somewhere between 300 and 315… I am trying to tell as many people as possible… that way I will feel extra motivated to pull like HELL! (b/c I will be embarrassed if I can’t get it… =P)

I lifted today and I am taking Sunday and Monday off (some light walks around my neighborhood probably) and getting a massage on Monday morning… then Tuesday night… it’s ON! =D Will definitely get it on video…!

Have spent the last week visualizing ripping the weight of the ground… hopefully that helps!

Will keep y’all updated!

I’ve been lurking for 5-6 mos., about as long as I’ve been doing the powerlifting thing. I’ve logged WAY more time on horse related BB’s; I was a bit wary of some of the, um, straight shooting men’s forums…but have found this forum to be very encouraging and supportive.

Even more ‘civilized’ and kind than many horse BB posters (maybe we horsey types just spend too much time in the barn!?)!

Anyhow, I’ve been thinking about posting here for a while, but I wanted to get at least a few months of lifting in first; not much, I know, but a start. I’m maybe a bit typical? of some women, in that my fella got me started.

For quite a few years we sorta agreed that ponies/horses were my thing (we live on a tiny farm, so chorersize and riding was my fitness program), while ‘D-man’ stuck to lifting.

I won’t go into any more fascinating history here, as I just remembered this IS supposed to be about DL and women…DL was my fave lift from the get-go, because I have slightly apelike  arms (too bad that ‘physique’ is not such a bonus for BP-sigh).

I started off trying out DL with 70 lbs. or so; after 3 weeks D-man had me do a workout where he carefully took me up in weight…not to max, but just up a bit to get an idea of how I’d do.
We stopped at about 150 lbs. that day, so I was pretty psyched; went back down to work on building a foundation of strength, hoping to double my body weight (103ish lbs. in the a.m.) by early 2009.

However, I’ve been puttering along fairly well, so about 2 weeks ago I went for 200 lbs., and pulled that up without difficulty; not to say it wasn’t WORK, but not a struggle at all.

I did that with a belt (D-man lifts ‘unequipped’, and HATES suits…just a D-man thing!). The record in the lifting organization he belongs to has the 48k open women DL record at 225 lbs., and around 315ish nationally-I’m guessing with a suit, but YIKES.

So, although I’m not looking to hit 315 lbs., I do like to DL. My BP is coming along to approach my bodyweight, but it’s a real grind; good in a way, as it’s taught me to fight for the lift, and appreciate it more than DL. (As for the squat, did a couple of months, but the ol’ knees went on strike, so to speak-much to my disappointment.)

Well, that’s my personal insight, as a DL gal; it seems like with a lot of stuff, part is just pure genes (and being really stubborn!?). I’ll maybe do a brief-type training log in the future; D-man’s method is to go shorter and hard, with very few (but very specific exercises…we mostly do the lifts themselves).

As for diet, power drinks always grossed me out, but I like my ‘mini-mixes’ now, and I have to really focus to remember to eat protein i.e. red meat etc., as I am a total carb hound.

Sorry to go on a bit, but when I saw this DL thread, I got all hyper. I’ve read quite a few threads off and on (when I’m not horse BB-ing!), and I’m really impressed by the level of support/advice and all.

I’m looking forward to reading more posts, and making the odd one; it’ll be a nice change from discussing HORSES (manure, barns, shows, clothes, horse blankets, feed, unsoundness ETC.). Way to go, Strong Women…grrrrr!!

p.s. I think ‘treacle’ is gonna come up as my username, which I’ll change when I figure out how to (Tiny Treacle Puddin’ is the name of our VERY small ‘companion’ pony)…

I feel like a bit of a goof posting this ‘back shot’(I’d WAY rather put D-man’s pic up, as he’s SOOOO much more muscular-ya think!!-but he’s also way too modest!).

My legs have changed composition i.e. sinewy to muscular…I’m pretty clueless physiology-wise, but I do know my tall English riding boots are too tight in the calf now!

D-man is good about pointing out my progress, as in: I now have some triceps!/my biceps are bigger than a marble!/the traps are coming along/my shoulders are broader etc. Damn, it DOES feel good to be strong[er]!! I think I’ll go ‘wrassle’ my horses now :)!!

Hey everyone! Getting geared up for my Big Deadlift tonight! =D

I am going for 315 (I weigh 158) and I am soooooo excited! YAY!! =D

Wish me luck and send me some good energy please!

…hope the lift went well :)!?

Thank you! IT DID! I pulled 315 pretty easily! I felt like I could have pulled 20-30 more lbs pretty easily, but my friends made me back off (didn’t want me to fry my CNS too much! =D)

My form was pretty crappy… my butt went up in the air, and I basically “stiff=legged” the weight up… whoops! =D

With some technique work I have no doubt that I could pull way more! =D

will have video up soon!

That’s the plan! ; )

Thanks! =D

OK Guys… here is the link to my video! Now one disclaimer: DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME!

My form went to CRAP on this lift and my butt flew up in the air! I basically “stiff-legged” the weight up… I needed to sit back, pull my heels into the floor and bring my hips and pull the weight into me…OH WELL… what’s done is done and stiff-leggin’ 315 ain’t bad either! =D

I am thinking with proper technique I could pull in the 350’s pretty easily…

Hope you like it!

wow your real strong! You have A LOT more in you when you get your form better. You know what you need to do the one comment I will make is just remember to push your hips through.

315 is over with, now move on to 365 and eventually 405.

That’s the plan! =)

We will see how the next several weeks go… I REALLY do think I could pull mid 3’s with JUST technique work… the 315, as ugly as it looked… didn’t feel THAT heavy at all! =D

Will keep you all updated!

Stong lifting mmgalb! Very impressive…continue to post videos.

Thanks liftheavy! This week is a de-load week for me… but I am going to go for 365 in the beginning of July I think! (which would be my BW X 2.25+) =D
Will keep everyone posted!

Marry me?

Seriously, that was great. You are outlifting most of the guys in my gym.

Perfect the technique, like others have said, and you’ll go far. Good luck!
