calling out to any in the worcester area or near holden? it sucks that no one powerlifts near me and the gym that does my parents claim is to far away with gas as it is (Baystate gym anyone?) so i have a powerrack and much weights, anyone else in the predicament?
Sorry man, I’m in Boston. I got sick of the commercial gym scene so I built my own gym in my basement. The thought of ever training at a Gold’s Gym again makes me cringe.
I’ve heard great things about Baystate. Get over there if you can. How far are you from there? Even if you could train there once a week and then do the rest on your own, it would be a big help.
yeh, i think ill be able to train there full time next summer but right now i have football (never played before and im gonna be a junior lol) and i despretly want to quit, i hate the kids on the team and id rather focus on PL and Strongman, ill see what i can convince my parents to do ha, your lifts are beastly btw
I starting competing in the early 90’s with single ply gear. Around 1999 I switched to raw and competed through 2000. Then I had a series of injuries and other stuff that kept me from competing. I just had my first meet back after about 8 years.
I’ve lifted in the 198’s and a few 181’s. I trained for a decade using Westside and made very slow progress. Now I’ve been training Sheiko for about 7 months and am back right about at my best raw lifts from 8 years ago.
Just made the decision to start powerlifting this summer instead of doing rowing. I’ll be lifting with our school’s powerlifting squad. Not sure what federations, but I see a lot of push-pull meets in SoCal.
I’ve been in and out of training since I was
15 years old. I got serious about it a few
years ago and was adopted by a couple of
powerlifters in my gym.
I did my first meet at 57 (I’m 61) and never
looked back. I’m not sure if I enjoy the
training or the competition more. I just
love the whole thing.
I’ve competed in AAU and 100% Raw in the 220s
unequipped.

Been powerlifting since april ? maybe march ? i weigh 256 i used to be 290 earlier this year , my best squat is 450, my best bench is 350 , and deadlift is 430. i plan to enter my first meet in dec. which is in sac.
I live in brentwood ca which is close to diablo barbell in concord and im going to try to make it there atleast once a week but until then im on my own. i use the standard westside template , which has worked real well for me. i plan on doing this for a long time.
Been training seriously for a little over a year mostly doing Sheiko. Trained hard, but wasnt really serious with the weights for about a year before that.
I’ve never competed but I intend to compete this fall in the CPU. Everytime I get close to a “local meet,” I hurt something usually unrelated to lifting. Last time I just slipped on some ice and threw my back out. Oh Canada. Will likely sneak in just under 275.
Just was introduced to the highland games this weekend, and I love it! Will start directing the training that way soon!

I started powerlifting back in '87 at Westside at the age of 20. Louie took me from a 455 squat, 365 bench and 505 dead to an 804, 556 and 804 in under a year and a half. We didn’t do the max effort stuff yet. We trained 4 days a week by percentages ranging from 58 to 90. All sinle ply poly gear by the way.
How does that work? Can you just show up at west side, pay and get him to train you?
220/242 usapl lifter. Competing on and off since 1994. my training is a bastardized version of sheiko that adheres pretty strictly to the prilepin table
I’ve been training since January (7 months) and plan on having my first meet in a month. I train and will compete raw and if I can drop the last 5 lbs I will be in the 181lb weight class. Current maxes are:
BP: 270
Sq: 335
Dead: 385
I plan on significantly beating those numbers by the time I compete. My goal from the beginning of the year was to have a 1200 total by the maryland state meet in December but I’m going to have to seriously improve dead and squat for that to happen.
I’ve lifted in 2 meets . 181 pounder . last one was almost a year ago.
I’m quickly realizing that this is one hell of an expensive sport . kinda out of my league actually . had my eye on a push/pull this coming October…but it’s being re-located to the other side of the state . cant drop 300 clams to lift for one day .
so I’m quickly joining the ranks of the non-competing powerlifters .
I have been competing for 12 years. I compete USAPL. Best lifts:
Squat 524
Bench 364
Deadlift 512
Total 1400 at 165 pound bodyweight.
I train with belt only most of the time. 8 weeks out I add knee wraps. 4 weeks out, the suits and bench shirt are added. I have tried the Sheiko and loved it.
Lots of good responses. I have competed since 1996, in the USAPL, AAU, and 100% Raw. Used to do mainly full lifts with single ply gear, now do raw lifts and a lot of single event competitions (bench, dead, and curl) as my squat is suffering from some knees issues (hopefully to be improved on in the future).
I have followed a ton of different programs, currently giving a Shieko a try for all of the lifts, I have done it before for bench only. I had good success from Westside and also just once a week bodybuilding style training.
I run a powerlifting team in VA called Team Force, we have about 12 members in the area. Not sure when my next meet will be, probably next year. Usually compete at 198, sometimes 220 (currently 220 right now).
Competed at 181 and 198 and will lift my next at 220.
Have done several Sheiko and Smolov cycles and followed Westside templates for many years, but am doing something quite different now to shake things up.
I have done some form of weight training since I was 16 (27 now), did some powerlifting in 2000, but got back into it last year, so about a year of good training.
I am much more focussed these days and am really enjoying training and competing. I compete at 82.5kg IPF (Powerlifting Australia), so far raw, but I just got myself a squat suit and shirt and have just started training with these. Got a long way to go, but getting there is half the fun.
