There’s been a discussion going on in several threads regarding reaching a 600 pound deadlift. There’s a handful of us on the forum chasing 600 so, I thought I’d throw this thread together for those interested in a friendly race or whatever. I know Hanley’s going after 600. Tom63 says 600 is going down real soon. And pushharder just broke 500. Anyway, if you’re interested in posting here, feel free.
I wasn’t sure where I stood with my 1RM, so maxed tonight. Here’s what went down:
Conventional DL from the floor
135x5
135x5
225x5
315x3
365x1
405x1
475x1
525xfail
525xfail
500xfail
The 475 went up easy so I decided to go with 525. The first try went up to mid shin before I lost it. The second attempt barely broke the floor. I didn’t want to end with a failed attempt, so I dropped weight and tried for 500, which I have hit before. Got that to just below my knees, but after the two fails, I didn’t have the energy to grind out the lockout. After that I was done for the night.
Well, not a great outing, but whatever. I still feel I can hit 600 by year’s end.
Current PR is 550, which was a year and a half ago. I am undoubtdly stronger right now so I feel I am capable of 575 or so.
I was planning on maxing about a month ago. Started my warm up and got up to 455. Felt great, I’ve never pulled 455 as fast as I did that day, but something in my lat popped. It wasn’t major, but I am still nursing it a bit and don’t want to risk hurting it worse. Other than that, my lower body training has been going great lately. As soon as the lat is 100%, I will do an ME deadlift and let you know where I am at.
I’ll get in on this. I’m sitting on a 515 lb DL right now, and I’m thinking I can get it before the end of the summer if everything goes well. I’ve been working up my squat for the past couple months, and have managed to nearly turn it into my strong point, so I feel comfortable going back to the deadlift now.
I’m in, Current Pr is 545 at 165 in USPF competition a few months back, been training hard ever since, aiming to hit about 585 in comp on March 22nd (possibly 600 if I am feeling froggy?) I wont have much to post until the 22nd as my training is mostly done and now I am just resting up, but then I’ll update and restart a log. Last thing I did in training was 605 rack pull from 2 inches below knees (may have had 620-630 in me but wasn’t supposed to go above my goal weight for competition (according to elitefts beginners training manual I was following). But anyhow, enough with the details, get ready to get beat in this race gentleman

I was thinking of trying 585 to get six plates, but my training indicates 600 is close. I have to see what goes on the next two days. Seems like i might be getting something.

If you’re going to make this an actual race you should set the bar at a current PR of 550 or below, with a goal of 600+.
Maybe “race” isn’t the right word. I’m not really looking to compete for time to get there – besides, it looks like I’m at the lower end of this “race”. I guess I was looking more for a thread of people reaching for a common goal and seeing people’s different methods for getting there. For example, I rarely do actual deadlifting from the floor. Lately I’ve been doing farmer pickups and a lot of rack pulls.
I don’t know. People can feel free to turn the thread into a competition.
I’m game. Current raw deadlift is 573. That was done conventional, I will start my sumo progressions tonight. I don’t want to say it is impossible, but I usually pull better conventional so I won’t expect that number to move in the next couple months. After sumo I will do snatch grip deads and then rack pulls before I start my conventional deadlifts progressions again. So mid summer I hope to be moving some heavy weight again.
I’m close. Best of 260kg (572lbs). Missed 600lbs at my last comp (272.5kg) but hope to nail it in 3 weeks time at my nationals.
Did 539lb x 4 yestarday, grip went in left hand and ruined a 5th rep!
I have been doing an ‘ed coan’ style deadlift training ie. a little heavy work, lighter speed stuff and finish with some assistance work. This cycle it’s block pulls from mid-upper shins.
Pulled 512lb 3 months ago at 198 in an APF meet. After 12 weeks of Sheiko training, I went 485, 520, 530, 535, with a miss on 540.
I’m looking to do 550 in a USAPL meet 8 weeks from now.
My intermediate goals that I’m really looking forward to hitting are 550, 585, and then 600.
600 could be anywhere from 1-3 years from now. I plan on doing my best and gunning for whatever I can, but I always prefer to set my goals on the smaller side in “worse case scenario” land and be surprised when I reach them more quickly.

Felt weak on these so I did some farmer pick ups 260 2x5
Tire flips ~650 pounds 3 sets of 4 flips
I decided to train right after getting off work at 10 am. I don’t usually do that. I don’t think I’ll do it again. I usually sleep and train in the late afternoon, early evening. My legs felt weak and I just felt groggy and tired. My legs really didn’t feel right on the farmers. I felt so slow and stiff. Also, I’m still trying to figure out how to warm up for farmers. I can never figure out when I’m “primed” for my working sets.
I planned on getting some sleep and doing some squats later in the day, but it didn’t happen.

Surely that was a typo…6 months-1.5 years
I think you actually may be right. When I get it, I think it’ll put me close the top 100 on Powerlifing USAs list for the 198s. That would be awesome.
