Who Do You Listen To?

Wanted to clarify one thing: a lot of people have mentioned coaches like CT, Jim Wendler, etc. I specifically excluded mentioning those guys because they’re professionals at this and pretty much everyone should listen to what they say.

Wouldn’t that also include Waterbury? Case closed. haha[/quote]

Yea, being a professional doesn’t mean jack. And blindly following any advice is stupid.

Addition - Push for his stories

Maraudermeat, CT, Prof-X, BBB, Stu,

Stupid comment. Even though I disagree with a lot of what Waterbury preaches, I’ve still learned some things from his articles. That doesn’t mean I “blindly follow” his advice.

LOL. Nice avatar.

Thank you so much MODOK. I just stumbled upon this thread and was quite surprised to see this. It is very much appreicated.

Let me just add that if Modok has something to say, I’d always seek it out.

Thanks again, my friend.

Best,
DH

a) 2 people I would pay for advice on training
–Meat
–C_C

But they would have to stop giving it out for free first

b) 2 groups I would pay for inspiration
–35+ and PW who lift real heavy

*Alpha’s Work remains the most inspiring log I have read here though

c) 2 people I would pay for entertainment
–Prof X
–NP

I usually get the popcorn out when I see both of them posting on the same thread. I have nothing against either, just enjoy it when they spar.

Your avatar reminds me of Lee Priest. Good job on achieving that body.

Cracks me up when all these people say don’t blindly follow CW because he doesn’t know anything, when they have that opinion mostly because they are blindly following people on the forum who hate him.

You can pick up something useful from almost everyone you encounter, Waterbury is no different.

Right. I respect Waterbury and put him at the top of the list when it comes to trainers.

For whatever reason his public opinion here went from hero to zero, but regardless… his concepts come from a long line of greats such as Starr, Gironda, Pearl, McCallum, and Ditillo.

Considering that some of the most popular programs historically are based on similar foundational concepts, its odd that his hater count has skyrocketed so much.

I wasn’t referring to Chad earlier. He has some good ideas, he just doesn’t really seem to cater towards the more advanced trainee. I have his Muscle Revelation book(ebook)and it is actually quite good. His latest book seems to be pretty popular also - Huge in a Hurry or something.

I read M.R as well, solid read.

I will give ya this, he has started to gear his writings more toward the general public lately, and as a trainer thats where the money is it, so I do not see how people can find so much fault with him for it. The more “hardcore” members of this site might find his earlier works are more to their liking.

Really there are too many to mention. Especially of the old guys like Ditillo, Larry Scott, etc… These guys are a gold mine if you differentiate between their observations (mostly objective and thus the real gold) and their conclusions (subjective and possibly correct)

Today’s major influences and people who keep me interested?

  1. Myself (you tell yourself more than anyone else ever could, if you learn to listen)
  2. Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale
  3. Pavel Tsatsouline
  4. Charles Staley
  5. Kelly Baggett
  6. Everybody else (and I do mean everybody. I strongly believe value is everywhere.)

Now as for who do I recommend you listen to on these forums (and I’m sure I’ll miss some as I’ve only recently become involved here again):

MODOK, IamMarquos, C_C, ScottM, PaulieD, Tribulus, and to a selective degree, PX. Find the basic concepts amid the invective. ha!

PX and I have had words a time or two, but in the end that doesn’t matter to me much. Many a young buck can learn some solid fundamentals from X as well for sure.

Sorry to anyone I’ve forgotten. Again, I’m sure I’ll think of more as soon as I post this list.

Best,
DH

Now, that’s simply awesome…
Before you start to wonder what the fuck is going on and read my posts in search of wisdom…
I’m his older brother so he has to listen to me no matter what.
