Who Do You Listen To?

hmm… i read pretty much every thread in the bodybuiling and strength sports forums. I listen to those that i respect. to gain my respect takes awhile. i respect those that see the big picture. i immidiately write off those that belittle others. Those that accomplish the most are always supportive. Yeah… i get frustrated with the same ol’ questions but that comes with being at the game for a long time. I find that the more one has accomplished, the more open they are to new ideas and are more tolerant of others.

Just because someone has some big muscle groups doesn’t make them experts. There are so many aspects to bodybuilding and powerlifting that one will never experience unless they actually get out there and do it. some may say that you don’t need to compete to call yourself a bodybuilder or a powerlifter. i have to disagree. there’s a blunt truth that one gets hit with when they step on the stage or the platform. you may think you have it all figured out but with 100% certainty when one actually takes the plung they quickly learn that they didn’t know nearly as much as they think they did. once you compete and get the feedback from the judges, crowd and competitors, then you can really take stock of where you really stand. you really have to face the truth. i think most people kid themselves. they don’t really want to know the truth. they may say they want to compete but for most people, they really don’t. the reason… they don’t want to know the truth. they don’t want to hear that your legs suck and you have no symmetry. they just want to keep going to the gym and training the way that makes them happy. that’s why there are so many douchebags on the internet. for them, this is ALL they will ever have.

i didn’t mean to go off on a rant. i guess to simply answer the question, i listen to those that not only talk the talk but also walk the walk. when i say walk the walk, i’m not talking about going out on the stage or platform to prove something. I think it’s necessary to see where you stand without your ego getting in the way. in my opinion, it’s the only way to really master our sports. this is especially true if one decides to hand out advice to those looking to succeed.

Well said.

I’m honored to even to be mentioned with all of these guys…

In addition to a lot of the guys named I would also like to add Modi.

That guy is another who “gets it”

modi is my star pupil. he’s a guy that actually takes advice and puts it to good use… then builds upon it and makes it his own. He’s a true competitor.

Guys who have been kind of enough to lend me some help over the years via pm

Bushido
AA ( first PM I sent on the site like 2.5 years ago)
CC (patience of a God, though we all know he is actually two 13 year old Japanese boys)
Disc Hoss

Guys who have been helpful and an inspiration on the forums

Alpha
Stu
Way (because he benches my freaking DL numbers and it pisses me off)
All the bastards in the BOI over the last 2-3 years.

Now you let the cat out of the bag JB. I thought I was the only person CC told, I acually offered to pay for one of the boys to come train with me in the states.

Jacked Diesel

damn meat, i just checked out your profile, youre a nasty mother fucker

Prof X.

I stopped being a pussy in the gym (progress, hey.), started eating first, asking questions later (progress, hey.), and starting a split (starting next week, I’m fairly certain progress will follow)

yeah… i’m not very “easy on the eyes”.

Seriously, the man is pretty fucking brilliant. Even though I’m natural, I always enjoy reading his posts, whether they’re in the steroid forum or somewhere else. As a biochem major, I can pick up a lot of good stuff from his ideas.

Second this, one of my favourite posters.

I also read alot of CT’s posts. Most of the questions he is asked seem to be made by people way overanalyzing, but the fact he takes the time to answer them is great. That also goes to most of the veteran posters here. X comes across as an ass sometimes, but in his request thread, and dentist thread he answered basically decent every question he was asked. And he if doesn’t answer CC does, lol.

Well, I do like the t-muscle guys. Listen to and trust Thib. Like Tim for being inspirational and a visonary and TC for being TC. Nothing increases my T-levels more than TC’s essays.

In the forums, thare is an enormous combined knoweledge and experience. I do read the posts of the cracks as well as the ones of the eager, curious and young guns. I try to give as good advice as possible myself. At least I’ve been working out for two decades, done bodybuilding and strengh contests and hold a PhD in both molecular biology as well as biochemistry.

To point a few names out:

  • Mighty Stu for being modest, polite, accurate, transaprent and informative. Read all his posts.
  • ModoK. Ditto.
  • BushidoBadBoy. Smart guy. Great posts.
  • Prof X. Do not agree with X all the time, but read all his posts. He’s radical, straightforward, honest, and I’m sure it’s not blood circulating in his body but a pure highly concentrated Testosterone solution
  • Alpha. Inspiring.

Wanted to clarify one thing: a lot of people have mentioned coaches like CT, Jim Wendler, etc. I specifically excluded mentioning those guys because they’re professionals at this and pretty much everyone should listen to what they say.

Additions made like Modi, BBB, Prisoner, bwhitwell, few others - all good posters.

People who are significantly stronger and larger than me. Basically people that have done the damn thing, so I can learn what they did and do it and of course make the process my own through learning what works for me.

Prof X, stu and cephalic
