Who Do You Listen To?

To spread the credit out I’m gonna go WAY back in the day (started reading posts in 2001): Squatty, Drago, Patricia, Tampa Terry, and several others. Also Cy Wilson and Brock Strasser.

In more recent times: Prof, BBB, Prisoner, Bill Roberts, morepain, and many of the people already mentioned. CT, Dave Tate, and DeFranco of course.

I’m certainly forgetting some.

Coming from someone at your level, that is a real compliment.
Yea man, im always looking to improve myself on a mental and physical level. You and the guys I named help me with that.

LOL Yes I was breathing heavy from all the stress so thanks for clearing that up for me! Jokes aside, I actually assumed you were talking about the general pop . . . still came off as a snobby thing to say as far as I’m concerned to say people “don’t impress you” and I can’t help but image some guy poppin his nose in the air out of distaste.

I’m sorry if I offended you. I’m just surprised that you get worked up about something that has nothing to do with you.

Thank you for policing the forums for us. I don’t know what we would do without your intervention.

I forgot to mention bushidobadboy too, guys a freaking genius. Other than him, just a big x2 on everyone else so far.

LaBuff!!! although I haven’t seen him post here in the last few weeks…probably cutting or something.

All you fucking elitists.

I listen to everyone it’s whether or not i take their advice that matters. Only person that has helped me seriously on this site was CC and that was only to give me some pointers as I knew most of what I was doing before that. I’m not impressed by a lot of people on here.
Well fine, if you don’t want a dick in your mouth get the fuck out.

C_C
X
The guys in the BOI
The guys in the Steroids forum(Brook, Cortes, BBB, b0nez, and Bill Roberts to name a few)

EDIT: As well as most everyone else listed too.

BushidoBadBoy is one of the smartest guys on this site.

Seriously, the man is pretty fucking brilliant. Even though I’m natural, I always enjoy reading his posts, whether they’re in the steroid forum or somewhere else. As a biochem major, I can pick up a lot of good stuff from his ideas.

Obviously X, CC, Modok, Stu, Fatty, Dark Iron…I mean, really there are a lot of people here that know their shit - after 20 years at this, I mostly come here just to discuss the lifestyle with other people, but there’s always something new you can learn…

There are also quite a few guys around here that have excellent physiques, but they just don’t post much. Unfortunately, they’re overshadowed by the shitload of fucking retards that come here to just start shit or act like immature morons…

You’re good man. I’m not worked up at all (I’m not that crazy) but I just don’t have a soft spot for immodesty.

I really don’t want to detract from this thread so I’ll stop here.

Definitely a good listing so far, I’m actually kinda honored to be listed among the other names. I still like to get certain other peoples’ opinions on what I’m doing, even if I’m only going to do my own thing anyway. At least that way if it doesn’t work, I have alternatives, or even know ahead of time why it didn’t. For as much whining as there has been lately about the direction the boards are going, we definitely have some truly knowledgeable and helpful folks on here. I know that’s why this is why I’m still around after so long

Don’t be so modest Stu. I think you are easily one of the top contributors to this board. You know your stuff. The thread where you talked about the benefits of leucine, and what you learned conversing with Layne Norton, jumps to mind. I’ve been sold on leucine ever since.

Great point, although another guy I don’t see post as often anymore.
SteelyD wrote:
He doesn’t post too much anymore, but Bauer was (is) full of great info-- dig up his thread in T-Cell Alpha.
I actually specifically excluded him, because as far as I know, he doesn’t post here anymore. But in the past, you’re right.

Good list, but a special callout to Stu and C_C because in addition to their personal accomplishments, they are consistently humble and genuinely helpful toward others.

Indeed, and way to be modest, too.
Matter of fact, I’d definitely listen to our big policeman’s thoughts and comments on bbing.
Anyone who has the chest, biceps and backthickness of a 280lb guy at “only” 230 knows his stuff.

I still hate him for his squatting abilities though. With the same weight he’s using for squatting I’d be gassed and dying after 1-2 sets of 10 (if I could even get 2 full sets of 10 with that) at most rather than his 5. FML

Whose posts do YOU make sure to read most of the time?

Let’s put it this way:

Zephead weighs a lot less than me, I can double or triple or so the weight he uses on any given lift and I give him advice every now and again if he either asks or I see something I think I should comment on in his log.

Well guess what, I’ve learned some extremely usefull stuff from him, particularly when it comes to wide-grip benching.
I’m pretty much built for CGP’s, but the wider grip flat bench has always felt awkward to me even with full PL setup (and thus I never did it much).

Thanks to some stuff Zephead made me aware of, I’m now actually capable of putting up some big numbers on the regular flat-bench without discomfort/pain.

So I sort of agree with Austin on this… I listen to everyone/pay attention to all posts in the threads that interest me… Even Nominal Prospect’s (unless they’re long and full of cited studies lol), because they’re sometimes funny

Doesn’t mean I’ll take advice from everyone though, and one can usually tell whether a poster is just spewing forth bullshit or whether he’s a serious trainee (no matter the stage) whose comments could prove useful.

That being said, if some big guy pops up which I haven’t been aware of previously, like dathibluline (or Professor X back when I first started reading this site, or Dante/Doggcrapp, Modok, FattyFat, ScottM, Sentoguy, Matt Kroc and so on), I might actually spend some time actively seaching through some of his older posts/log entries to find out about his training style, diet, “unique” exercises etc and see if there’s anything that sounds like it would be compatible with my own stuff.

who do i listen to??

hmm… i read pretty much every thread in the bodybuiling and strength sports forums. I listen to those that i respect. to gain my respect takes awhile. i respect those that see the big picture. i immidiately write off those that belittle others. Those that accomplish the most are always supportive. Yeah… i get frustrated with the same ol’ questions but that comes with being at the game for a long time. I find that the more one has accomplished, the more open they are to new ideas and are more tolerant of others.

Just because someone has some big muscle groups doesn’t make them experts. There are so many aspects to bodybuilding and powerlifting that one will never experience unless they actually get out there and do it. some may say that you don’t need to compete to call yourself a bodybuilder or a powerlifter. i have to disagree. there’s a blunt truth that one gets hit with when they step on the stage or the platform. you may think you have it all figured out but with 100% certainty when one actually takes the plung they quickly learn that they didn’t know nearly as much as they think they did. once you compete and get the feedback from the judges, crowd and competitors, then you can really take stock of where you really stand. you really have to face the truth. i think most people kid themselves. they don’t really want to know the truth. they may say they want to compete but for most people, they really don’t. the reason… they don’t want to know the truth. they don’t want to hear that your legs suck and you have no symmetry. they just want to keep going to the gym and training the way that makes them happy. that’s why there are so many douchebags on the internet. for them, this is ALL they will ever have.

i didn’t mean to go off on a rant. i guess to simply answer the question, i listen to those that not only talk the talk but also walk the walk. when i say walk the walk, i’m not talking about going out on the stage or platform to prove something. I think it’s necessary to see where you stand without your ego getting in the way. in my opinion, it’s the only way to really master our sports. this is especially true if one decides to hand out advice to those looking to succeed.

I listen to meat.
