the thread should be titled “STRONG people CAN jump”
Hey Fred,
nice numbers and vid, they are impressive!
There was a clip of a much smaller man dunking during a bball game jumping off of 1 leg. Was that you too? Its interesting because where you stand on the static-spring scale might have changed as you get older/turned to strength training.
What was your vert when you started?
and how much did you improve from the age 25- 30?
Fred, im curious to know how you came to train the way you do. It seems like you incorporate everything, olifting, powerlifting, shock training, etc. Did you learn from a coach? Reading/applying on your own?

Thank you!
Yes it was me at about 19-20 years old. - YouTube
Actually my progression is probably unorthodox. When I was in the US, I used isokinetic machines (fast twitch training center) and my vert went up like crazy, +8 inches in just 4 months, up to 35in. Then it went down as my playing season were pretty long, so I studied and researched a lot myself for the appropriate training. I’ve even learned the o’lifts myself at first. And eventually, eventhough I got bigger and heavier I could manage to increase my jumping ability. Especially my standing vert. I don’t jump off one foot any more. I’m just too heavy.
Is your standing Vertical Jump still at 36 inches or has it moved up? Got your 40 incher yet?
What’s up Col!! Nice to see you here. Well my vert has improved a couple of inches but I haven’t got 40 yet. Best mark is 38in.
Fred you don’t look as snappy/springy as you used to.
Your jumps seem to be much more muscled these days. It can’t be just the strength work, because you did strength work before. Must be all the heavy olylifting

Good stuff, man.
I’m curious, what are your best lifts to date? How much were you benching in the max attempt?
I think we need to have a dunking contest between SquatDr, Digitalairair, and this guy!
Anyone care to put some money on it?

I got my money on Squat Dr.
Well jumping isn’t everything in a dunk contest but… Actually me too, I put my money on Squat!!
True, but I figure Squat’s extra few inches might make up for the lack of technical proficiency that he might have compared to a true baller like yourself, haha.
Nice numbers though, man.
I might’ve missed it, but what’s your parallel/olympic style back squat numbers like?

Well I think it’s just that I weigh 220lbs, and I was like 180lbs at the time…

Thanks,
well front squats is 400lbs and best back squat is 485lbs. But we don’t have a damn power rack in my O’lifting gym, so I have hardly improved my back squat at all for like 2 years.

Oh shit, son! It’s Kenny. Yo man FTJ in da house! I subscribed to your shit on Youtube, man. Good to see you’re still training.
Keep plugging away at those numbers, man. As if you’re 30! Good shit, though.
Haha what’s up Bro! Yeah I ain’t getting any younger… Good to see you here too.
Thank you for the comment, and also thanks T-Nick!
Here is a vid from today. Push presses 120kg X 2. Nothing huge and so so technique but it’s still a personal best. - YouTube
You can call me a hater but I don’t see the basketball skill during the brief clips…that said, if true, another example of yet another fine athlete being so enamored with dunking that he forgot to “play”.
Forgive me, I just think there is way too much emphasis by the young guys on dunking. Yes, I could dunk in my prime, but I could flat out play too.
And before you say you’re not / weren’t enamored with dunking, I could dunk with the best of them, and played with many a sky walker…none of us had videos of us dunking. The sport is basketball, not “dunking”.
But you do have hops and I like your workouts and your strength to weight ratio is impressive. Not hate here, just making a statement about the general deterioration of b-ball skills by your generation and the next.
