You’re not in the US so I have no advice for you. But in case someone else has the same question, Modell’s has the cheapest Olympic weights. I got a 300 lb set for $140 after coupons.

I bought mine here: http://www.traningsprodukter.se/

Drive to Sweden, there’s a guy outside Kungsbacka, near Gothenburg, who sells pretty well priced weights.

I did the same as Sam. Its a quick and easy start up and plates are plates. But the bars suck. Just expect that you will most likely have to replace the bar in a few years for a higher quality bar. It is still worth it. That might not be the case for everyone but it was for me and for others. I bought a texas power bar after my bar broke in the fall. It lasted a few years as I’d expected.

Good point. The bar does suck. Mine weighs 35 instead of 45. But it’s worth it just for plates.

Anyone bought cheap weights and then calibrated them on their own? I was considering attempting this.

Really? You weighed it? Wow. That’s messed up. They bend easy as shit too. You ever see the displays in modells or sports authority? They leave all 300 lbs on it all the time as a display and its all bent to shit. In every store its like that.

Yup. I first noticed that when I opened the boxes, counted up the plates and the 45 lb bar, it was 10 lbs too short. I then weighed the bar and sure enough it was 35 lbs and added up to 300 lbs for the set. It’s also thinner than most bars at the gym. I really don’t have a problem with it bending too much yet because I rarely put more than 320 lbs on it and always strip the weights off when I’m done.

That’s b/c they suck just like dicks sporting goods. Notice how my bars are still straight. What I’m saying is go to a specialty retailer.

It was worth it just for the weights though. I couldn’t find 265 lbs of sturdy metal weights for $140 anywhere else. The plates are just fine.
