Not to be harsh, but- You aren’t moving enough weight to look big.
I’ll put it in perspective for you- at 170lbs with a bench press in the range of 275-290, I’m not big, but I look like " a guy who lifts ".
Less fat, more muscle. Thats about it.
Sweet Jesus…170 and a 275+ bench? Damn. I thought I was doing well with a 225 bench at 170 lbs.
No. I would expect you you be able to hit 225 at 170 at minimum. You are not doing well until you hit 300 (no offense there SkyzykS
). Unless the bench is your weakest lift by 200 pounds. If you squat 350+ and deadlift 400+ at 170 you are doing ok. Otherwise, you need more strength and you need more muscle.

Actualy, thats my current max, and “max max” was 320 @165 a few months ago. The deadlift and squat you listed are a little light.
Those are also raw numbers.
Anywhoo- I wasn’t intending to put myself out there as an example of someone wh is huge, but merely as an example that to get noticeably HUGE you have to move A LOT of weight and have some serious freakin mass.
Im 6.1ft 207 lbs currently, and look like I train. I dont bench at all anymore, and used to bench regiously, but found it aint for me, plus not very strong on bench, maybe due to longer arms??
Lately been doin some incline though…which is improving my chest, however I find dumbells work better, with good nagatives.
Like everyone already said, make sure your getting enough food, and I would recommend taking measurements on a weekly, or fortnightly basis to check for gains, not the scale! But that should go up anyway. Also, try different exercises to shick your body.
I eat snacks like chips, cookies and pork skin. And then I maybe eat some chicken and protein powder once a day? Soooo what weight should I be lifting before I look big…
PS is 1 gallon of coke a day okay when i train a lot
-big, heavy chickens and steaks from what you’ve just said.

But that won’t stop people from trying to love him and pet him and care for him and call him “George”.
I can see the point as far as some people being incredibly strong for their size, but have you ever seen someone who can bench in the 4’s, and squat and pull in the 6’s and up, that didn’t look like it?
I know that I don’t have any great ability to assess what someone can lift just by looking at them, but seriously, when you can move a lot of weight, YOU LOOK LIKE IT!

That is true the majority of the time. In fact, it would be EXTREMELY RARE for someone to move that kind of weight and not look like it. That is why I do find it funny that so many guys seem to be afraid of weight gain lately yet they want to be as strong as people who weigh twice what they do. I just isn’t happening unless you were already genetically gifted in that area to be much stronger than average before you ever started training seriously.
I personally have NEVER met someone who can train for several reps on a bench press with 3 plates a side or more who didn’t look the part.
I think the problem is too many smaller guys are using that extremely rare minority to justify their own lack of progress.

Oh George, you were very naughty to pretend you were a serious trainer.

Yea.
When some kids in suburban America are using-
(a population of 3 billion, with a government sponsored screening process to find the most geneticaly gifted atheletes in that population, like a chinese athelete),
as an example, there are bound to be some misunderstandings as to what goes in to developing athleticism.
The other end of the continuoum are the kids that think “you can only get big. Big is not strong.” witout understanding that to get that big, you have to use progressive overload in some form or another anyways.
There do seem to be a good number of those popping up lately.

Sorry man. I wasn’t pointing at you, I was trying to tell the OP what a good base is for starting to become “big”. Didn’t mean to dig at you at all man

You cannot be serious. And if you are, I can only tell you how amazing the shoe + purse combination is for body composition. You will never make progress because you will never have the discipline and willpower to make the commitment necessary. Enjoy mediocrity.
I agree, what I meant was that some people can get pretty big without lifting more than you do. Setting goals and progressing in strength is probably the most effective to get bigger.
so listen americans… i know i got a bad diet and im little over weight and so on, but im no american so i dont eat fish on sticks. i work, sleep, eat, train and play computer games… now thats the life…

You eat chips, cookies and pork skin, drink a gallon of coke every day and your proud of not eating fish sticks? I suppose you are from England, then.
It’s one thing to troll about lifting & diet, it’s another to pretend to be a foreigner (from a US perspective) and spew anti-American sentiment for the sole purpose of generating hate towards other nations.
Some people have a problem with moderated forums, personally I thing they aren’t moderated nearly enough.

I agree. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I’m built to bench more than average due to my leverages and natural build, and I’ve always complained (to myself) that I didn’t look as “strong” as I was. The problem was that my deadlift, squat, and most other lifts weren’t all that impressive…and it showed.
I think I was using my good bench-for-bodyweight as a crutch to not work harder in the gym for a long time.

i’ve been training for more than half a year and i’ve gone from 75kg bench press to 102,5kg, but still my body looks like crap. i weight 95kg and im 187cm in heigt but still it looks like i’ve normal and not big. (i do full body training). note i dont take steroids.
sooo… whats wrong … hmmm i wonder…[/quote]
steroids isnt the only way to get big. you have to train smart and eat like a man to get big.
Also strength has nothing to do with size and vice versa.Read a lot more and you will learn that.
