What's Everyones Sporting Background?

As to the inspiration to the OP about which athletes are more fit, or which sport is more difficult, I’ll simply say that “fitness is specific” and comparisons are useless. Just because you can run 5 miles doesn’t mean you can swim 5 miles.

As for me, Basketball professionally overseas.
Powerlifting when I retired from ball. Yes, an odd transition. From a 190lb basketball player to a 275lb class powerlifter. I actually weighed 283 once before a comp and had to diet down. That was a shocker.

BG if you ever write a book let me know I would definitely read it

Judo all through lower and middle school.

Rugby through high school.

Rugby for Lyon {France} and Cairns {North Queensland Aus} for a few years after high school. Ahhh good times…

Have to say based on my small amount of experience around pro athletes the guys who play in the NRL are all freaks in regards to fitness and some in strength. Good all round athletes imo.

Basketball my whole life, played AAU in high school but wasn’t really good enough to do anything in college. Last time I “played” I walked by some kids playing 21, I can still dunk in jeans and hemp slippers with no warm up (but I’m 6’4" so big whoop)
Lots of baseball, I love it, my favorite sport, but never was very good at it lol
Club soccer in college just for fun and something different (also not good)
Boxing/kickboxing for close to 10 years, BJJ for 8. I’m “good” at those I guess, but not as good as I’d like to be or should be for the amount of time I’ve been at it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a total unathletic doucher or self-deprecating emo kid, I just hold myself to a really high standard. I’ve had a few 4 round undercard bum pro boxing fights, quite a few BJJ medals, the only guy I’ve ever met who could outsprint me by more than a step ran D1 track, but… I still think I can do better :wink:

Fixed it for you.

^^sorry about above post…it was from 2008/2009, for some reason the “last page” button took me to page4

Varisty basketball/volleyball…basically I was good at things that required being tall and jumping high.

Football and Baseball were my top 2 sports.

As a kid:
Football-QB
Baseball-P,SS
Soccer
Hockey

High School:
Football-QB, FS
Baseball-P,SS,3B
Basketball

College:
Football-QB (BIG10, probably played against Bauer)

Played basketball from about age 7-16.
Ran cross country from age 15-18. 18:30 5K
Ran track from 13-28. Continually debate on whether or not I should start again.

Track PR’s
100m = 11.10
110HH = 14.59
200m = 22.42
400m = 47.5
400mH = 53.54
1500m = 4:30.3
Long Jump = 23’ 2"
High Jump = 6’ 9.5"
Pole Vault 15’ 5"
Shot Put (16lbs) = 41’ 10.75"
Discus (2Kg) = 128’ 3"
Javelin (800g) = 168’ 11"
I wonder what this guy’s been up to?

I don’t know. The ratios all seem legit, except of course the discus is low. Also, the feet & inches is in accurate conversion from metric marks. At least I know the pole vault mark is, for sure. I don’t see any reason to doubt this guys claims except that the numbers make him a world class decathlete.

Trey Hardee posts on Pole Vault Power.com. Is it far fetched that a less elite decathlete might be posting here?

He should’ve gone with something more believable so more people would back him up. You know, like 495 for 15 on the incline.

So glad they canned that motherfucker from UVA…real, manly men. NOT. They should stick to P90-catabolic-X, natty lite, driving shitty jeeps, backwards caps, and the list goes on…
According to this post, I guess I should’ve been playing lacrosse this whole time haha

I recently started playing hockey again after years of being off the ice.

Oh, how I missed it.

Soccer as a kid through 17.
Football 15-18

Never really liked either of those sports. Was a good keeper in soccer, and a good free safety in football, but never really enjoyed them.

Wrestling 15-18
Found my love of grappling freshman year.

Now (19), I play Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. Both are great fun, but I might go serious with Judo and start to get to competition level. Training for both of these wrecks my weightlifting schedule, as well as leaving me with some nagging injuries from wrestling.

Well played.

Gymnastics, started before i was 3 and burned out around 12. Wanted to have a “real life”, so I played soccer with my friends (defense- good body checker), and was a cheerleader (natural progression with my gymnastics background), also some track and field (wish I’d have stuck with that longer.) H.S. lacrosse (again defense) and cheerleading. Moved on to running after H.S. (WTF was I thinking) but I actually won some age-group stuff in a few 5k’s and that was when I was in my early 20’s. DId mostly trail running through my mid-20’s and then a hip injury landed me in the gym to rehab. And the rest is history. I was born to lift, it was pretty obvious to me and everyone around me. I think my bf started jacking up his dosage just so that I didn’t embarrass him. A friend who is a trainer where we were lifting at the time used to kid him that I was getting bigger than him.

This is where everyone brags about their 4 touchdowns in 1 game/ 4.54 40’s etc.

meh? underwater knife fighting, all state champ!

I started at a karate gym when i was like 5 yeaors old or something, i really hated to go there because i was missing sesame street at that hour of the day haha after one year of trying to convince my mother that i wanted to go to karate class i finally could get away from it.Did greco-romanian wrestling for 2 years(I actually enjoyed that) I played soccer for like 4 years but at that time i had some temper issues and i got into a fight everytime someone called my mistakes when we were playing. Later i bega to get involved into weightliting, nothing seious just some lifting sessions in my backyard with moderatly heavy stuff when i was 11, then when i got into middle school and the school took me as a competitive sprinter i was like 135pounds those days, then i got into boxing for like a year and abandoned the boxing training to get involved into bodybuilding i got up in weight a lot i was 165 pounds at 14 years old i was short so i looked somehow ripped with that little weight, then i went back into the boxing gym when i was 16 the coach remembered me and my name and tol me “Shit son! you are all muscle bound now! we have to get you in shape and loose a little that stiff body!!” i was 175 at that time and he slimmed me down again to 165. i had pretty decent skills i beat up a decent amateur boxer in sparring in just 2 months of training. I had to pull out from my first boxing match due to strong migraines that didn’t let me train or eat let alone fight in a ring. Later i got away from the boxing gym, i was involved in powerlifting now i got to 186 pounds in a still very short frame so that was the most muscular i was in my life i did pretty decent numbers. Later that year i went to study to Juarez, Mexico. There the Juarez olympic weightlifting team convinced me to join them but i had to quit school, man i was chasing my dreams!! i went down to 171 again to make category, Had a lot of trouble in the house i stayed had a lot of trouble with my coach my weightlifting teammates where jeallous and stuff and i quitted again, went to my original town, and started Muay thai trainig, and yes, i quitted muay thai training too… So now i’m here again looking for another chance and trying not to screw things up :confused:

Hahah after i read your comment i looked up at mine and felt dumb because it looks like i’m bragging or writing some type of movie.
English is not my language so i couldn’t express myself in a humble way when i was writing.
What i wrote looks amazing on paper but in reality is not that big those were just thing that happened to me i was somehow lucky sometimes.
