Hell yhea bro crazy shit
Squat day 5/18/07
14" box squat
135x8
225x5
245x5
275x1
300x1
happy with this I think I have 350 in me right now just need to get more comfortable with the lift, its all mental and technique.
front squat ATG
135x5
155x5
185x5
200x5*
I think this is a 5 rep pr reps went up nice and smooth.
calf raise 85lb DB’s 2x15
ez bar curls 60 2x15
good solid workout, wide stance box squats are needed, I need more hip strength, first time felt comfortable doing front squats after back squats. Probaly do to taking a wide stance on the back squats and a narrow one ATG on the front squats, saved my quads for the front squats.
I’m still here guys lol. I’ve been busy lately but still training 5x5. Here are my workouts from this week:
5-14-07 Monday
Olympic Squats 265x5x5
Bench 135x5,160x5,185x5,210x5,235x4
Barbell Rows 205x5x5
5-16-07 Wednesday
Overhead Press 160 x 5,4,4,3
Deadlifts 335 x 5 x 5
Pullups BW+10 x 5,4,4
5-18-07
Bench
220 x 5 x 5
Olympic Squats 135x5,175x5,205x5,240x5,280x5
Barbell Rows 135x5,155x5,175x5,195x5,210x5
One more week of volume, then dropping down to 3x3 for a few weeks, then ramping the volume back up.

Great work out and yes though I dont go really wide on any squats they will hit the legs in different ways nice work]
Nail that 350. You might consider some VERY heavy ass partials it will help with the squats and things like getting used to the yoke and all that partial very heavy shit in strongman
Keep it up

First of all good luck you two today kick some ass and get some Meet PR’s

thanks Phil, the main problem is when the weights get around 300 I am not very stable. I dunno I used to be, maybe my traps are to big to hold the bar up high j/k. I need to learn how to hold the bar lower, I will research the proper setup today, any tips? If I was more comfortable and stable 350 wouldn’t be a problem I got the strength for it IMO.

I agree, just keep doing what your doing and you will be stronger than ever, since you are around lower 230s right now are you thinking about competing in the lightweight class?
Good luck Matt and Modi, hope everyone hit some PR’s

Traps to big fuck wish I had that prob. Um tips yes do those walk outs and short partials. then if its a comfort thing. Just get used to the BIG ass loads well over your squat weight it will really help you get comfortable
Also find your bar placement it should really fall right on that shelf

Thx and well I really think my squat will be higher after this of course pressing will take a bit have to be able to use the arm first and DLing I think will hav a drop jst havent been able to but I hope to still be able to pull near 600 hopefully 6 plates after a few sessions and work up from there
Yes I think I am going to stick with the 231 class now that Im down here for a bit and getting stronger it seems. go back up to around 240’s and cut the water for the comps and then next year see whats up and maybe go for the 265 class again. With that weight and food I was getting strong much quicker.
but I think if can be how I was or better I will do very well in the 231s and cut that 10-15 lbs the day prior

So, I’m back from my first meet. Was a really good time overall and I’m definetly looking forward to doing some more. I got first class for my weight and age but I think I was the only one in that group, haha.
So rather than going to the Bay State Athletic Club, I made my way out to the Bay Shore Athletic Club. Took a 40 dollar cab ride over to the other meet crapping my pants about getting their in time. Thankfully, I did.
The weigh in was suprising. I stepped on the scale with clothes and shoes on and was 222lb. I expected to be under 220 with everything on. Dropped the clothes and shoes and ended up being 217.5lb. I expected to be more like 213.
The weights were in kilos which threw me off slightly, but overall it was a pretty good turnout…on deadlift at least. I opened on bench with 260lb and nailed it.
Went to 303lb next which would be a 13lb PR on a pause bench. Got it a couple inches off the chest and missed it. Decided to take the same weight again.
This time I didn’t even realize that I was on deck, so I was basically suprised as shit when my name was called. Went for 303lb again, it went up a little higher, but I stalled a few inches short of lockout. I’ve never really missed a weight at lockout. Looking back, I would have taken 297.5lb as my second attempt and then went 303, but that’s life.
Deadlift warmups went a little fast compared to how quickly we were going through the flights. Opened with an easy 460. Second lift was 503 (maybe 505). One of the guys running the meet suggested that I go with 518 on my next attempt, one of the buddies I was with suggested I add 40, but that probably would have been way too close.
Luckily I asked about the use of ammonia and they said it was fine. The rules online said it wasn’t, but I’m glad I asked. I took a huge snort and scream, “Let’s get this shit!” and a woman involved in the meet screamed back “No cursing!” I tore the weight up pretty strong and locked out the 523.5lb deadlift.
Looking at the vid, I may have had 10 more in me, maybe more. I’ll post them later and see what you guys think. The only attempt not on film was the second deadlift attempt. But in retrospect, I’m glad I took 523 as my final lift because if I missed my last dead and topped out at 503, I would have been pissed. 28lb deadlift PR is acceptable to me.
Good meeting you, Modi. I hope to see you again in the not too distant future!
Bench
1st Attempt: 260lb- 3 whites
2nd Attempt: 303- 3 reds
3rd Attempt: 303- 3 reds
Deadlift
1st Attempt: 460lb- 3 whites
2nd Attempt: 503lb- 3 whites8lb PR
3rd Attempt: 523.5- 3 whites**28.5lb PR*

Hey guys, just got back from the AAU Bay State Push/Pull World Qualifiers where I competed at 242 Raw in the Open Class…
First, let me say that I had the opportunity to meet Matt in person for the first time and compete with with him (different weight classes), and he is truly a stand up guy. I knew that from the thread, but he is a genuinely good person. I’ll let him give you his details.
I weighed in at 234.5 (WTF?) must have spit 7lbs of water out on the ride there, thanks c. My gym’s scales must be off, since I ate like normal yesterday, and had a normal breakfast this morning.
Here’s how it went. First, it was a bit of a circus since it was in Kilos, not pounds, so there were a bunch of meatheads (myself included) trying to figure out how much was on the bar during warmups. The running joke all day was “yeah, it looks like 225, probably close enough…”
My back was feeling good during warmups, so I opened with 147.5kg (325lbs) on the bench. 3 whites, went up easy. My second attempt was at 160kg (352.5). 3 whites, again it felt good. Meet PR for me by 12.5lbs. My last attempt was at 165kg (363.75). I missed the lift.
I haven’t seen the video, some people said the spotters grabbed the bar too quickly, I’ll check out the video. Bottom line is that the bar exerted a greater downward force than my upward exertion. Maybe lack of leg drive. I’ll try and post the videos tomorrow. I don’t think could have gotten the lift regardless of the spotters.
Deadlift. More of the same circus…“how much is that? 190 kilos. With or without the bar…Umm not sure. How much is 190? Uh, like 400 or so…” Pretty funny since I just gave AA advice yesterday on how to convert lbs to kilos!
Back felt great during warmups. I was going to open conservatively at 205kg (451.75), but ended my warmups at 210kg (462.75). I opened with an easy 225kg (496). 3 whites. My second attempt was at 250kg (551) which went up easy. 3 whites.
Matt said “you straightened your legs early and pulled with your back”, to which I replied “yeah, that’s what I do, need to work on those glutes/hammies.” My previous gym PR was 565 which damn near killed me, but I said I wasn’t going to leave anything on the platform so I took my third attempt at 260kg (573).
I set up good, and pulled hard. It went up faster than expected. 3 whites and a Meet PR by 48lbs.
Overall I had a blast, got two new PR’s, won my division, and qualified for the World Championships in October.
Edit: Matt beat me to the post. To make life easier for those with ADD.
Bench:
1st attempt - 325lb - 3 whites
2nd attempt - 352lb - 3 whites (Meet PR by 12lbs)
3rd attempt - 363lb - 3 reds
Deadlift:
1st attempt - 496lb - 3 whites
2nd attempt - 551lb - 3 whites (Meet PR by 26lbs)
3rd attempt - 573lb - 3 whites (Meet PR by 48lbs)
Awesome job Matt, congrats on the great result and the PR’s!!
Strength and Honor,
A

Fuck yeah Modi!! Nice job bro and congrats on the results and the PR’s. I have got some work to do to get to your numbers.
I added to my dead PR today, 475. Felt like shit all around but went in there and got it done. How about you shoot for my bench numbers and I will shoot for your dead numbers? Are you up for a little comp?
