Weird, but impressive

You got me by a mile on OHP. 165 lbs is only like 5 lbs off my PR.

Which ignores the fact that I basically didn’t manage it.

Still very solid work even if you’re disappointed with the rep at 75 kg.

Oh wow you’re crazy desperate!

Although when I am comfortbable in a gym, I really like to socialize.

Are you alright man? Starting to get worried about you

As long as you keep beating Bob and not starts talking to him.
You’ve lost weight and still hit a pretty decent OHP at very close to BW.

I can’t promise that I never talk to Bob. I have been in self-isolation for two months!

But thanks. I get hard on myself about this stuff, because that is how I push myself. I need to figure out how to get this back to 1x BW. But maybe not before gym is open. I can go nuts with my 353 sets. Doing that with more than 45, for example, would be great. Oh shit, I think I just set a goal.

Day C+56

Speaking of getting off easy, just did a simple leg day today. Was going to do Bulgarians with more weight than previously, but the boy wanted to train too, so I stuck with the bar and did regular squats. First time doing actual squats in 2 months. Can’t go heavy, obviously, so decided to do it as a 353 (patent pending) set. Went for 55, simply because I had no idea what to expect.

Barbell Squat

  • 25 kg x 6 reps
  • 45 kg x 6 reps
  • 55 kg x 20 reps
  • 55 kg x 18 reps
  • 55 kg x 15 reps
  • 45 kg x 20 reps

It was tough in a way that doing high rep squats is always a bit tough, but could probably do more. I think the Bulgarians and LLs have kept my legs in okay shape.

I have actually had this floating around in my head for a really long time:
I think Bulgarian split squats are weird. They are crazy difficult but on the other hand I follow a few IG chicks (for inspiration obv.) that do them with some really respectable weights! I can’t help and think: ā€œShit, could my fat ass even do that? They must be insane powerlifters!ā€ Then you actually find a 1 RM squat and it’s pretty underwhelming, respectively.
Is there something about Bulgarians that I don’t get or has that maybe actually something to do with gender (pretty illogical) or is there a point I am missing?

The girls are doing them for booty gains and people underestimate how much you can load them up.

This article inspired me to hit a two plate split squat.

I think this is where I fall into. I absolutely value and advocate unilateral work for athletes, I just underestimated how much some people can load them. The article was another good example of my misconception. The kid was doing reps of 5 with 315 lbs on Bulgarians but that ā€œonlyā€ translated to a 445 lbs squat.

How much did you squat at the time?

I think I should just try to do the movement myself with some decent weight. Maybe I could do more than I currently think.

My best squat was actually before I did this. My hip was hurting again so I was backing off on squats and pushed the RFESS. I hit 370 on squats in June and the RFESS was in the fall/early winter.

That’s just more proof that squats are limited by core strength.

It really helped me add weight to the movement when I stopped putting my toe on the bench. I got my current technique from this article/video (I don’t use the chains and DBs):

Bit late to the discussion but ima chip in:

I done a bit of split squatting. Is glute dominant for me and about the only thing that guarantees glute DOMS. Solid quad work also. Is great for opening up the hips and practicing lumbo-pelvic control and posture also.

Most I’ve done is like 60kg for reps. It’s a movement that can be easily ā€œcheatedā€ though. ROM can be cut for one thing depending on how u stand (I elevate my front foot a bit to maximise ROM), leaning onto your rear foot more nevermind pushing off it and all kinds of leaning forward/back and shifting the pelvis around to compensate and make the movement easier.

I like but I don’t think it’s a movement to go super heavy on. Moderate at most but movement quality needs to be maintained. There’s squats for going heavy or prowler pushes or someshit

@Koestrizer I have been doing them for a while now and they have helped me in a couple of ways.

  1. They have helped with stability and imbalances
  2. My squads got bigger, more muscle = more stronger !!

That should say quads
