Weird, but impressive

Day C+57

Feeling nice and DOMSy in my legs, a sign that high rep squats with tiny wuss weights has some value.

Speaking of DOMS, I decided that because of 4 days of recovery needed from my last dipping session, the best solution to avoid that again is to go back and do it all again ASAP, so I went back to the playground today. Took my dip belt and 10 kilo plate along for the ride. A plate is surpisingly fucking heavy when you are transporting it in a sports bag, but feels like nothing when hanging from your waist. Today should really have been a pulling day, so I added some PUs and did all this alternating.

Nice sunnies mate. I’ll give u 5 bucks for em.

Weighted pull ups / dips are great mass builders. I started lifting as a calisthenics bar bro. Went into bodybuilding now into powerlifting so never really did manage anything more than some L sits and shitty front levers. I’m too fat in the legs now

Nah man, those are Bob’s glasses, he’d be pissed. I only borrowed them because there was so much glare coming off my glistening awesomeness.

I don’t actually find that the weighted stuff builds mass on me, but then again…nothing actually seems to build mass on me. Except beer. It does make me shitloads stronger, which I can accept.

More beer more added weight on exercises= muscles

Once I finally commit to not losing any more weight, that is going to be my next program. Beer, Burgers, Weighted Dips. I am going to see if I can dip like 8 plates.

Y not. They bother your shoulders at all? I’ve heard rumours of dudes fracturing sternums doing dips but their pretty healthy for me.

No, my shoulders seem to prefer pushing downward, I can go way below parallel. Same reason I prefer decline benching.

So the word here in DK is that gyms are not going to open before August. I mean, damn. Not what I was expecting to hear.

Got to think about this. Still seems mostly impossible to get any real home gym equipment at anything resembling a reasonable cost. And do I even need it? Shit.

Same in Ireland, looks like 10 August at the earliest.

I’m going to wind up getting some heavy kettlebells or a rack/bar/plates, whatever is available first.

Holy shit! We were behind you with basically everything else and now gyms are opening up so much sooner? That’s indeed unexpected.

They are just being super careful, I guess. DK is actually doing pretty well.

For sure. It’s just surprising that most restrictions were lifted sooner than they are here apart from this very detail. Although I don’t really disagree. Sport is important for the immune system but gyms are a breeding pool for germs.

Yeah, they must be. I have been staring at an ā€œorderā€ screen for a 135kg weight set, but I just can’t quite pull the trigger. In the long run, just not sure if I need/want a home gym.

That’s a tough one to decide. August is still a good bit away. I would make it a financial decision: Do you comfortably have the disposable income to resell this with a loss and not be mad about it?

I mean my decision making for equipment was never that good. I just went for it against all odds. Never had regrets.

That’s…a compelling argument.

I also have to wonder what happens when this stupid virus comes back in November or whatever.

Argh.

Another thought - are you paying membership dues for the gym right now? If not, would three to four months of that cover the cost of buying equipment now and selling at a loss later? Think of it as a lease or rental.

Day C+58

Despite having done dips yesterday and only 3 days removed from my last shoulder day…I am doing another shoulder day. Because fuck that shit last time. I have a chip on my, you guessed it, shoulder. I wore my Captain America shirt today for extra power.

Standing Barbell Shoulder Press (OHP)

  • 25 kg x 5 reps
  • 35 kg x 5 reps
  • 39 kg x 3 reps
  • 45 kg x 3 reps
  • 49 kg x 3 reps
  • 55 kg x 3 reps
  • 61 kg x 3 reps
  • 65 kg x 2 reps
  • 75 kg x 1 reps
  • 47 kg x 20 reps
  • 47 kg x 18 reps
  • 47 kg x 15 reps

Okay, so it went up legit this time, even if maybe I borrowed a tiny bit of momentum from the clean. Was still a grinder, damn. I really do think this compact little bar and the compact little weights makes everything a little bit harder then it should be. It’s all so…dense. Feels different for sure.

You may remember I quipped 3 days ago about maybe doing a 353 set for more than 45kg. My plan then was to work up to it for a month or something. Instead, I tossed that plan out and did it today. I don’t mind telling you that that was unbelievably tough. After the first 20, I was like OH FUCK, THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. I think getting through these is as much a mental battle as a physical one. The last two reps in the last set were done on sheer willpower.

Doh, forgot to add…I went out and bought several pounds of ground beef. I am going to have some damn burgers starting Monday.

Yeeeerr burgers baby

Catching up, but

Where the fuck is steak and sushi, dawg?

And if you’re not from NY, this wouldn’t matter, but where are your bagels and egg sandwiches? Pizza’s a pretty NY thing but I’ll let it slide if you’re not from there because because although it’s tough to do, you can find a good slice most places if you look hard enough. Took me 4 years in Virginia to find a real Brooklyn slice, and it was because I asked to work in on the leg press with some middle aged jacked dude wearing a string T who had the thickest BK accent ever, and when I told him I was from NY too he told me to come to his pizzeria. Straight up - first thing he said was ā€œwheah duhyou getya pizzaā€, as though New Yorkers survive on a diet of bad manners and good pizza.

I need to stop typing the word pizza because I’m eating virtually no carbs right now and I want pizza because I love pizza.

Pizza.
