Weird, but impressive

I did a single rep at the end of one of the above sets, and thought to myself “huh, that was harder than I thought it would be”.

So I haven’t done them seriously, but that’s mainly because it hasn’t yet been necessary. I will still consider mixing them in, especially if my body adapts to the floor presses and I need to artificially increase resistance.

I can see BOB is standing in the background, laughing at you, saying you’re a pussy.

Great DB man, and nice workout too.
350 set, squeezing the db’s together that’d be tough.

Can you call that a circus dumbbell? I would.

Bob is surprisingly judgemental, you have no idea.

@dagill2 I forgot circus dumbbells were a thing. So yeah, let’s call them that. They look ridiculous.

Day C+41 - Damn, that means I have been home for 6 damn weeks. Crazypants. Weight seems to be more or less under 78 now consistently, so that’s good. Not sure how much more I want to drop. Still seem fat.

Pull day, first time with the DBs.

  • Romanian Dumbbell Deadlift (Weight is both hands combined)

    • 44 kg x 10 reps
    • 44 kg x 10 reps
    • 52 kg x 10 reps
    • 60 kg x 10 reps
    • 68 kg x 10 reps
    • 68 kg x 10 reps (PR)
  • Pull-Up

    • 3 reps
    • 3 reps
    • 4 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 10 reps
  • One-Arm Dumbbell Row (weight is per side)

    • 22 kg x 8 reps
    • 26 kg x 8 reps
    • 34 kg x 8 reps
    • 42 kg x 8 reps
    • 46 kg x 8 reps
    • 30 kg x 20 reps
  • Dumbbell Bicep Curl

    • 12 kg x 20 reps

I dunno, this was meh. The DB deadlifts are kinda strange, and also way harder than I thought. 68 kilo feels like 100. Probably because the grip is harder. The rows were okay. I don’t know if I ever really get anything out of these, regardless of weight or reps. But work is work. Also figure I could just barely squeeze 50 kilo on a single DB, so that is a pretty good upper limit…that’s like 8/11ths of my bodyweight, so I don’t need to be rowing that much anyway. Next time I will probably keep the weights lower and the reps higher.

Okay, I will correct myself a little on the above. In hindsight, it probably wasn’t a “meh” session, because I am feeling some trap/rhomboid DOMS, and a bit in my glutes as well, so I guess both the rows and the DB DLs did something positive. I think I just gotta figure out how I want these to fit in with everything else I am doing. Honestly, my poor old elbows might benefit from more horizontal rowing and less vertical pulling. A thinker.

Use for the duration of the quarantine then return on the basis of it not fitting the description.

Haha, that crossed my mind. But one of the reasons for even bothering in the first place - because gyms will likely open up here in about 3 weeks - is the assumption that this is just Round 1, and that we may well face this again in the fall.

Also, I am buying an extremely cheap and crappy little bar so that I can have even more variation, and the 10kg plates will be fine for that.

So, didn’t do anything for two days in a row. Yesterday was planned day off, today was just because work went on longer than expected and I couldn’t be arsed. Got to pay for it tomorrow.

Were you able to work through the whole apocalyptic situation or just now when things are picking up again in Denmark?

Well, they have been slowly opening things up, but for the most part if still feels the same. I am still staying at home, avoiding the general public for the most part. Biggest change is that my youngest has started school again, but even that is not quite normal.

Kinda disappointed there weren’t more zombies. Or any zombies.

I should have said throughout instead of through. The question was if you just started working again or have been the entire time.

But I wholeheartedly agree. On the topic of apocalypses both Hollywood and religion raised our expectation pretty high for what it actually turned out to be.

Ah, yeah. I am fortunate that I have a job I can do more or less just as well from home, and am even busier than usual.

And as you indicate, the apocalypse has been less exciting than what was promised. But there is still time!

Day C+44

Full on leg day. Didn’t punish myself as much as I could have, in part because I am trying something new and it is hard to measure how much work is enough work.

So these things I am logging below are not technically Goblet Squats, but I am not sure what to else to call them. They seem to be a pretty good quad exercise, but the tension on the lower back stays there throught the whole motion, like an RDL. Whatever, it seemed pretty decent. Went literally as heavy as the DB would allow. The Bulgarians I added after the fifth set and alternated, which is why the are a bit on the light side.

  • Goblet Squat (dumbbell)

    • 6 kg x 8 reps
    • 14 kg x 8 reps
    • 22 kg x 8 reps
    • 34 kg x 8 reps
    • 42 kg x 8 reps
    • 50 kg x 8 reps
    • 50 kg x 8 reps
    • 50 kg x 8 reps
    • 50 kg x 8 reps
    • 50 kg x 8 reps
    • 50 kg x 20 reps (PR)
  • Dumbbell Bulgarian Split Squat

    • 14 kg x 8 reps
    • 14 kg x 8 reps
    • 14 kg x 8 reps
    • 14 kg x 8 reps
    • 14 kg x 8 reps
    • 14 kg x 8 reps
  • Body Weight Bulgarian Split Squat

    • 16 reps

Here’s what it looked like…let me know if you know what this is supposed to be called. If you are wondering if this will smash the old twig and berries if done incorrectly…the answer is YES. Yes it will.

Enjoy the soreness lol

I am forced to assume you are not talking about my legs.

Close stance sumo deadlift with a dumbbell maybe?

While accurate, I have to think this is a prime opportunity to come up with a suitably hardcore name. Something Viking-ey maybe
