Weird, but impressive

Interesting idea, thanks. Will just have to find something suitable to put between them, as these are obviously not hex DBs.

No need just push them together. The harder it is to balance them the better.

Day C+36

Just gave Bob some whoop-ass today, nothing more. Sat outside a bit in the nice weather, but otherwise have not left the house.

Might have to step it up a bit tomorrow.

Hey man
Don’t be to scared of going out, just keep a distance to others.
Oh I do believe that the gym is a gem factory, but if it opens people would rush to it.
One thing they could do, was taking peoples temperature… with one of those ear things or infra red stuff… not the other you just thought of.

Exactly, butthole temp checks at the gym, where do I sign up.

This orignated from a song and then got a classic in ā€˜meme comedy’ in lack of better terms. Nonetheless, I am happy to be the weird one.

Day C+37

Woke up at 77.2 today, which is the lowest in a long as while. Have been undereating the last few days, so I expect it to pop back up towards 78 or so. Still, this is getting close to where I want it to be.

Drank a bit too much yesterday (seems to be a Friday pattern), but eventually pulled my ass together and went to the local playground again for some halfway decent work.

Day C+38

Was gonna skip today, but decided I had enough energy and enough time had past to make it a leg day. So this is the first time doing Bulgarians with the new DBs. I thought balancing was going to be harder than it actually was…I think weighing down one or both hands actually seems to improve the balance. Anyway, nothing crazy yet, have to build on this.

Nice to able to do some bullshit accessory stuff for the first time in a long time, kinda missed it. Easy to do that stuff alternating with the main work.

Good stuff, lots of things one can do with 24 kg dumbbels.

As of now they are two 16kg DBs. I ordered extra plates that should come tomorrow, at which point I should be able to make them a couple of 34kg DBs. Of course, can then make a single DB much heavier, for things like rows, goblet squats, etc.

That sounds very solid! You should be able to do get some quality work in with those weights.

The new plates came today. The immediate bad news about them is that they are 28cm in diameter, and not the 21cm in diameter that was advertised on the site where I purchased them. I thought it sounded strange they were showing them as 21cm. The main problem here is that they just look absurdly big, and that annoys me a little.

The first good news, however, is that immediate testing shows that this does not seem to matter. ROM still seems to be fine on vertical and horizontal pushing, and even single armed rows seem fine. The second good news is that the stupidly big diameter of the plate might actually make it easier getting floor presses into position, because I can rest it more easily on my leg and give it a push. Will have to see if it works when I load it up all the way, this is the biggest challenge to doing floor presses with DBs.

Lastly, it appears I can just squeeze an extra small weight on the end of both sides, so I think I can safely get them up to 36kg each side now. That is totally fine for pressing right now, and is probably more than I can even clean and rack for OHPs. Will even make for an okay romanian DB DL.

So, pretty pleased. @flappinit would probably be a fan of how absurdly big they look.

Of course, today is a rest day, so I ain’t doing shit. Except possibly Bob, TBD.

Correction, can only safely get them to 34kg (one DB I tested earlier just happened to have an extra cm on one side for some strange reason). Oh well, good enough. I figured out how to get them in position on floor press, which is an interesting challenge.

You can’t say that and not put a pic up :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

And nice workout btw.
I hate bulgarians

Heh, fine, I will post something up tomorrow.

The Bulgarians are a love/hate thing. I obviously have not been able to squat, so just getting something that really activates those muscles is great. Plus…despite having done both a lot of weight and a lot of volume with regular squats in the past, my legs do not really react, and my butt doesn’t really engage. I can already feel that the Bulgarians do that far better. For me, anyway. So yeah, I like them. But l reserve the right to change my mind when I get more weight on them, or try that terrible drop set of death.

Day C+40

First real day with the DBs and the extra plates. Pushing day, with shoulders as the primary, floor press secondary. Standing OHPs with DBs are probably the toughest overhead work, so these kinda sucked. The plates being so huge probably contributes to the problem a little, feels like more to balance than what is normal. But hey, this is the first time pressing any real iron in (checks post title) over 40 days, so gotta start somewhere. Floor presses are mostly no problem. Getting them into position is the only real trick. Will probably use the yoga blocks next time to prop them up a little.

  • Standing Dumbbell Shoulder Press

    • 14 kg x 8 reps
    • 16 kg x 8 reps
    • 22 kg x 8 reps
    • 26 kg x 8 reps
    • 30 kg x 5 reps
    • 26 kg x 8 reps
    • 22 kg x 10 reps
    • 16 kg x 10 reps
    • 14 kg x 10 reps
  • Dumbbell Floor Press

    • 14 kg x 10 reps
    • 22 kg x 10 reps
    • 26 kg x 10 reps
    • 30 kg x 10 reps
    • 34 kg x 10 reps (PR)
    • 30 kg x 10 reps
    • 26 kg x 10 reps
    • 22 kg x 10 reps
  • Handstand Push-Up

    • 2 reps
    • 5 reps

34 kilo is not quite enough for the floor presses, but I guess I can work towards a 350 set here at some point to maximize it.

Pretty happy overall. Irritating as shit to have to change weights all the time, but it is nice to use real weights again.

Oh, and pic:

Lol I like your big dumbell. Have you tried those floor presses with the dumbells pushed together yet?
