Weird, but impressive

I am a caffiene addict. I am a strange mixture of parts. I loathe cardio, but apparently I am built for it. My heart rate and my lung capacity have always been unusually good. I try not to use it for evil too much.

Lucky, lucky you man! Glad to see you’re still getting work done despite being quarantined. Cardio-wise I do well until right at the mile mark and then I drop off sharply. Hoping to learn to run more than a mile this summer - will have to drop some bodyweight to not trash my joints.

I find the best approach to cardio is to just skip it entirely. The next time I plan to run will be when I’m stealing @mortdk 's gym equipment and trying to evade his team of police vigilantes.

So you don’t do any cardio and your system is that good? I’m seriously asking. I am always right on the line with my blood pressure, so I guess I’m jealous.

Bastard. I live pretty damn healthy and have been on high blood pressure medication for 3 years…and I’m 27. Starting BP medication at 24 meant I made it the longest out of anyone in my family without needing them.

Technically, my BP is semi-high, but that is probably because I am 46 and a life-long salt addict.

But aside from the naturally good HR and lung capacity, I am also smallish. Getting down near 170 pounds now.

Lastly…I don’t do zero cardio, I just don’t do normal cardio. My workouts probably tend to be more difficult than average generally speaking (in that they actually do get my heart going), so that is a part of it…but then there is Bob. Bob is more than just a good-looking, rippled beast of an almost sex dummy. He is a means of doing HIIT, which I far prefer if I have to bother with anything resembling cardio. Takes very little time, and is generally proven more effective in this regard.

Works for me, any way. In next week’s show, I’ll be telling you all about how to make gains on a diet consisting of mostly alcohol and pretzels.

That sucks. Have you had that problem at lower BW as well?

Runs in my family, as does heart disease in general. I would be in trouble if I didn’t train as much as I do.

Yeah, it started creeping up when I was about your size and moved up regardless of my weight. Whole family has issues on both sides, despite my parents being in decent shape. Luckily I have it controlled on a low dose of Losartan with minimal side effects. Tried Lisinopril first and it damn near killed me, first month I was on it I lost 8 lbs of muscle and gained about that much fat. Horrible cough, all the fun stuff. You’ve done well for yourself staying healthy this long though, that’s impressive.

Based on my family history, I will probably die as a result of my heart literally turning into a tumor, which then causes it to dislodge and go into my pancreas, thus signaling the dorment lung cancer that has been building up for years. It will then spread throughout my entire lymphatic system, causing me to develop a severe drinking problem, leading to the car accident that will take my life.

So yeah, I know the feeling. Only difference is that I am in shape, and none of them were.

We are more alike than I thought. My BP is normal (lame) but my HR is 50 these days. I’ve been slacking on my cardio and it shows. HR was 45 a month ago. I’m going to have to start using the elliptical I bought.

Yeah, in those strange periods of time where I attempt regular cardio like running, I get down to about 46 resting. But then I figure I will just get too good at it and my heart will become so efficient that it will just stop beating entirely.

The healthcare people always seem concerned by my lower HR. I don’t get it.

Primarily because they rarely see it, and when they do they associate it with something negative: Bradycardia. Which has the following symptoms:

  • Fatigue or feeling weak
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Confusion
  • Fainting (or near-fainting) spells
  • Shortness of breath
  • Difficulty when exercising
  • Cardiac arrest (in extreme cases)

I have none of these things (confusion? Would I know if I did?), quite the opposite. I also know I have an absurd lung capacity, so I just assume I was built efficiently in this regard. I assume it is the same for you.

Day C+9

Drank too much yesterday. And then woke up at 4:30, which I have been doing a lot lately, but this time without really being able to get back to any semblance of sleep. So today, I’m the zombie.

Was going to just not train at all today, but I got tired of sitting there just literally staring at the wall in a state of concerned boredom. So I pulled my ass together. And decided to dedicate today’s workout to @dagill2 and @MarkKO , neither of whom likely realizing I took our little joke rather seriously a couple weeks ago:

  • Handstand Push-Up

    • 3 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 15 reps
    • 12 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 5 reps
  • Pull-Up

    • 20 reps
    • 18 reps
    • 15 reps
    • 12 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 10 reps
    • 8 reps
    • 7 reps
  • Front Lever

    • 00:00:10
    • 00:00:10
    • 00:00:10 (PR)

And now I’m even more tired.

And here’s the new blocks in action for the first time. They’re great! More partial nudity, so people who are easily nauseated and small children should look away.
