Weird, but impressive

I don’t think I can even do 300 air curls.

I think we’re quite a ways away from this. Technology has made a lot of Revelations possible, but there are still a few things that need to occur to get us there.

The worst part of Covid and 2020 in the US is that it has shown us that we’ve made drastic mistakes in politics. We’ve allowed all of our so called representatives to take control and keep it. I’ve been a Republican all my life but I don’t even trust them anymore.

Day Gazillionty-Four

Quick titties day. 550 and 350 sets is on the agenda. Weight only at 77 this time, which looks like shit on paper, but this is actually now my current bodyweight, so not too shabby. Exceeded the minimum reps in both cases.

Barbell Floor Press

  • 27 kg x 10 reps
  • 47 kg x 10 reps
  • 67 kg x 10 reps
  • 77 kg x 13 reps
  • 77 kg x 12 reps
  • 77 kg x 11 reps
  • 77 kg x 10 reps
  • 77 kg x 10 reps
  • 57 kg x 22 reps
  • 57 kg x 18 reps
  • 57 kg x 13 reps

Not really time for anything else.

Are you going to failure on all sets? Your numbers are all pretty close from set to set. My body does things like 16, 10, 9, 7, 6 and that’s with 90 sec rest.

Well, I suppose that depends on what you mean by “going to failure”. For the first two or three sets, I have a bit more in the tank, but by the last set I am close to failure. But as you can see, I am going past 50 reps in total, so I am not using a heavy enough weight that would have my numbers looking like yours I guess.

Another way to look at it is that I am one of those lifters who relies more on brute force/speed and less on technique. A common side effect is that I can rep better than I can max on stuff.

I see. I treat each set as an AMRAP so I hit failure more frequently because that’s what the gurus all say is necessary to grow.

On the flip side, Paul Carter gets credit for the 350 sets and I caught him saying that he doesn’t go all out in the first set.

Yeah, I am also tactically saving reps in the first few sets to make sure there is enough left in the tank. I also plan it so that I exceed 50 reps (both 550 and 350 sets). Anything less than 53 I consider slightly disappointing. Why? No idea.

You’ve been cooped up too long, that’s why.

Off yesterday, Bob today. Would have had a run, but the weather is just absurdly crap. Easily the worst 4 months of awful weather I have ever had since this lockdown began. Just crazy.

Day Lost Track Weeks Ago.

Shoulder day, last week was iron, this week is HSPUs. These felt unaccountably difficult, but at least I got lots of reps.

    • 22 kg x 10 reps
  • Upright Barbell Row

    • 27 kg x 10 reps
    • 27 kg x 10 reps

Woulda liked to do a bit more of the assistance stuff at the end, but my arms were done by that point.

Weather is only partial bullshit, so I guess I will go run the loop.

Health check-in.

Age: Very Old
Weight: Woke up at about 76.5, so that is down about 12 kilo from my max starting point
BP: 112 over 69. I have the blood pressure of a 3rd grader, not sure what that means
RHR: Steady at 47 beats. Was 43 during the BP check

My cardio condition is obviously loads better than where it was when I started all this, and I don’t really feel any pressing need to improve it, so that is just going on maintenance mode. Ideally I would run maybe twice a week, and then throw in more sessions with Bob (if only my knuckle would heal).

Don’t really want to get much smaller, but would like to get rid of the last vestiges of belly fat. I probably compare well against other senior citizens, but it is a bit annoying regardless. I can tell some of it is skin that has lost some elasticity, which is something the definitely speaks against putting on significant weight again in the future. That shit just doesn’t bounce back the way it used to.

I guess I am about where I want to be, but will probably go ahead and drop another kilo or so…that way when the inevitable rebound starts, I will come back up to this weight. Rebound time is the best.

How long until gyms reopen and you can rejoin the dreamer bulk bandwagon?

Probably not before May 6, but there are differing opinions and mostly silence from the government. I had probably said it to myself before, but I don’t think I will do any more “bulking” again. So it will have to be relative strength and not absolute strength.

Pulling day, with emphasis on reps over quality. Adding in more single leg work as well, my body seems to be adapting quickly to the suckage. Decent day overall.

Just a run today. I have recently stopped doing the bigger loop and started doing a much smaller loop for two laps. About 2.6 kilometers total. Average time just around 5 minutes per km. Legs a bit wobbly during the run which is probably a result of the Bulgarians from yesterday (fucking Bulgarians).

Would have made a lot more sense to just stop the sentence there.

Off day yesterday. Went for a run today. The weather was so nice for once that I slowed it down and ran a little longer, just a smidge short of 5k. Low effort, but almost enjoyable, I daresay.

Time for some 7 or 9 rep sets mate
