Weird, but impressive

Except when lifting weights I take it?

Oh snap. Got me there.

Would love to do them, but I have a few mobility issues that seem to make them basically impossible for me.

Yeah, well perhaps all that funny.

On a related note, have you seen the news on the re-opening? Seems gyms are not included any time soon.

Yeah, not too thrilled. Really starting to get tired of this. Sometime in May maybe? Ugh.

Kinda a surprised me actually, had thought sports & fitness would be one the early things, as it has health benefits.

Possibly, but offset by being hotbeds for germs and bacteria and stuff. Indoor sports, at least. Gyms are terrible, unless extremely well ventilated.

There is that of course. Or perhaps nobody wanted to fight very hard to get it included. Seems hairdressers are quite important to a lot of politicians…

How many people get haircuts? How many people go to the gym?

I know far more people (in real life) who are emotionally invested in getting a haircut than I do people who are emotionally invested in getting in a squat rack.

@Cyrrex already has his first appointment booked.

Our gyms have been open for quite a while and not one hot spot. Also, healthy people are more resilient to things like Covid.

If you by gym mean fitness centers, the answer would be a lot. Here every 1 in 6 are member of a fitness center. But year, more people probably go to hairdressers. Haven’t personally for a lot of years, do it myself with a trimmer.

I am inclined to agree that gym goers will be more resilient than average, maybe even by a lot. But some ā€œstudiesā€ have indicated higher chances of transmission because of all the sweaty gross people grabbing the same equipment, etc., which is logical. And gyms over here tend to be very poorly ventilated, and that may be the biggest factor.

True or not, that is what they believe, so no choice but to deal with it.

Ah the magic of hard work and consistency!

Where’s the photo?!

It’s the funniest thing, I think my new iphone has such a high resolution that it cannot deal with all the shredded cuts in my midsection and it uses an AI feature to attempt to fill in all the missing spaces. I think it goes back through past photos and tries to extrapolate the empty pixels. Stupid AI, what can you do about it.

This is a study done by the technical university of Berlin that shows the infection risk for various settings in relation to the R value of 1 (one infected person will affect one other person. R=2 means one infected infects two other).

They rate gyms with an occupancy rate of 50% and no masks worn at an R-value of 3,4. Gyms with 30% occupancy and no mask worn at 1,4. Supermarket with mask is at 1. Shopping with mask and 10qm/ person at 1,1.

I personally think it’s the right step to keep gyms closed. They have been closed since November where I live. Sure it sucked to train outside all winter but our exploding case numbers just don’t justify any more openings.
Also sure healthy people are more resilient and obesity is one of the main risk factors for a severe covid case. I have heard that argument countless times. BUT does anyone really think opening gyms would help that much? Who is really going to be the first one that’s back in the gym as soon as they open their doors? The young, healthy guys and gals working on their bodies. Gyms have existed forever and people are obese. For the people that are obese and at risk it would be perfectly fine to adjust their diets, go on walks and bike rides and do some home workouts. Simple as that. I think the it’s a desperate argument by the fitness industry. It is totally understandable since a lot of businesses are struggling for their existence but ultimately really not the factor they portray it to be.

That is a nice chart, and hard to argue with the findings. Anything over 1 is considered a problem, although at this stage that alone is not as indicative as it was a year ago (because treatments are way better and death rates are down). Still, 3.4 for 50% occupancy is pretty severe.

I am not against what the local government is doing, I am just weary of it.

Same. I would have preferred harder restrictions that don’t have to last this long. Better vaccination campaign etc… there is a lot that the gov. has screwed up during this pandemic but in a lot of decisions they really had no other option. I wouldn’t want to be in a position to call the shots.
But yeah of course I am just as tired as anyone by the whole situation.

Yeah, I am quite annoyed by the vaccine rollout, but whether it is based on fair complaints against the governments in the EU and the pharma companies like AZ screwing up everything…or just jealousy at the much better rate the US is vaccinating at…I don’t know. I am probably looking at late summer at best.

Ignoring all that Corona talk nonsense and getting back to the important stuff…

Really, what’s the point in getting abs unless you take selfies and post them online?!
