Weird, but impressive

I want to make more fun of your running but on the other hand you have probably similar temperatures to us, so I kinda respect you for it. Unless you’re telling me a treadmill is involved. Than it’s back to mocking.

It is not on a treadmill. But by all means, make fun of my running. It probably deserves mockery.

Not your running in particular but running in it’s entirety. Although mockery from someone my size might not bring that argument across very well.
That said, just focus on your stupid strong press and drop the gymnastic classes. Or as Jim Wendler once said: “never sacrifice strength for becoming a burpee queen”.

The running right now is really just a means to jump-start some better cardio conditioning. I will never be a true “runner”, nor do I want to be.

But that said, I am dropping weight and doing the cardio because I realized that some of the strength stuff I was going after was cool…but ultimately pretty unhealthy for me. I am not really willing to make all the sacrifices it would take to do it in a more healthy way, just too old for that shit. So I am looking to find a better bodyweight and overall composition. I already feel better in general, even though I am getting weaker.

I will eventually hit the bottom of this weight loss and then do a bit of a rebound. That is where the real sweet spot is. But I think the days of me looking at absolute strength goals might be in the past.

Very mature decision making, can’t argue with that even in a sarcastic manner.

What markers did you use to determine this?

A few different things:
-Total bodyweight higher than it had been in more than 10 years
-The mirror…body composition not what I like
-Just kinda felt a bit poorer than I am used to
-Skyrocketing resting heart rate. Got up to 58, which is very high for me.
-An understanding that my cardio capability was complete crap

I have fixed a lot of this in the past two months of lockdown. Not yet happy with the body comp, but I think some of that will come later.

That’s how I’ve always felt. I just walk while gasping for air and call it a day. I don’t understand those fools who do a 1-2 mile jog as a cool down. Crazy people.

Ditto.

Do PED’s call into the category of healthy???

I generally do not what you would call a healthy diet, so in this case I am more referring to the idea that it is perfectly possible to gain weight in a sensible and healthy way through food…but I don’t really want to do that. So when put on more weight to aid in getting stronger, my bad habits get compounded. My training tends to support my eating, rather than the other way around.

I’m the same way. Once I know I don’t have to live off chicken and broccoli, I start to eat the things I actually enjoy.

Lockdown Day 60. Still no abs.

Yesterday was an off day. Today was kinda supposed to include a run, but that -10c windchill can bite my nutbag. Also the longer run two days ago means I could probably use an extra day for my calves and lower back to get a bit more rest.

Other than that, Pull Day with a bit of Bob as a cardio stop-gap.

Pull-ups
5 reps
6 reps
7 reps
8 reps
9 reps
10 reps
11 reps
12 reps
13 reps
12 reps
11 reps
10 reps

Ran out of time on the way down the ladder, but it gets to be diminishing returns at this point anyway.

Ab Wheel (standing)
2 reps
3 reps
4 reps
5 reps
1 rep (sloooooow)

And a bunch of crunches in between.

Lockdown Day 61. Still no abs.

Just a run day today. Dropped the 10 minutes of warmup and cooldown, so the pace automatically shoots up as a result.

26 minutes (no warmup or cooldown)
4.32 km
16 minutes actual running (3-5-5-3)

About 6 minutes flat for the pace. Not bad with the harder interval. It also didn’t feel like I wanted to kill myself.

Lockdown Day 62. Still no abs.

Titties day, no cardio. Just trying to maintain some strength and get a bunch of good reps in.

Barbell Floor Press

    • 27 kg x 10 reps
    • 47 kg x 10 reps
    • 57 kg x 10 reps
    • 67 kg x 10 reps
    • 77 kg x 10 reps
    • 85 kg x 10 reps
    • 67 kg x 20 reps
  • Dumbbell Floor Press

    • 22 kg x 8 reps
    • 26 kg x 8 reps
    • 30 kg x 8 reps
    • 34 kg x 8 reps
    • 26 kg x 15 reps
    • 26 kg x 15 reps
    • 26 kg x 15 reps

Did a bunch of rear delt flyes and a bunch of curls as well.

Resting heart rate down to 46 the last couple days. Starting to think maybe I can get it to go backwards at this rate.

Lockdown Day 63. Still no abs.

Run day. Same running interval as last time, but 2 minutes fewer of running, which made it a bit more challenging. Actual running pace was similar to last time, but total pace is better due to less time taken overall. Skipping the warmup and cooldown seems to have no adverse impact, so that is the plan from now on.

24 minutes (no warmup or cooldown)
4.13 km
16 minutes actual running (3-5-5-3)

About 5:49 for the km pace. I really haven’t thought ahead as to how far I am going with this, it had never really entered my mind to actually go after 5k.

I’ve never really understood “cool downs”, surely the best way to cool down from running is to stop running and lie down.

Ps. I’ve liked the above post because your improving, not because I condone running.

That’s fine, I don’t really condone it either. Right now I am doing it about three times a week, but that is just to jumpstart things. No way am I going to keep that up.

Yup, that happened to me too, but I managed to run 5k before I stopped though, even thought I didn’t actually have a goal (… Well expect improving conditioning and actually keeping it up…).

I think you underestimate my ability to not run 5k.

I miss a few days and come back to 20 posts about running. Are you feeling ok?

You also seem to have overtaken me on couch to 5k, which is mildly irritating. That might spur me to do something silly.

Kinda hard to compare since…

A. You don’t time anything properly
B. You don’t seem to be actually following the program

But let’s be honest, I am not sure either of us care about our running prowess. I would probably rather be fast at shorter distances, that seems a far more valuable skill to me.

I never had any doubts that you’re faster than me. I meant that you’ve overtaken me in the sessions, probably because I haven’t been doing many of them.
