Weight gain

hey. Im looking to play football at college next year. I am currently 6 foot 2 and weigh about 185 pounds. thew problem is i will be playing middle linebacker which means i have to weigh at least 200 pounds. I have been working out solid for about 4 months 4-5 times a week but i am not gaining any weight. I want to put on about 15 pounds naturally without any supplements, just a changed diet but i dont know what to eat. I would appreciate any help. Oh and nothing tht will make me overweight, just some food that will allow me to increase muscle mass.

Patty Mac - read the get big diet in the faq section of the page and any of the other mass gain diets. This will give you an idea of what to eat. Also you may be working out too much - you may want to space you workouts a bit more so that you have a bit more time for recovery which = muscle growth and weight gain. Also give us some more details on what your training and diet is like now - the more info we have the easier it is to help. (the link to the faq section is at the bottom of all the current issue pages). I played in high school at middle linebacker - I`ve never had a problem maintaining 200lbs at 6 feet and those are not fat lbs… makes me wonder if I could have made a university career out of it? Never know…

T-mag has at leass a dozen diets for you. Go search for Massive Eating, The Skinny Bastard Diet, the Get Big Diet, the Pound a Week Diet. Then read the Diet Manifesto and an article called “Foods that make you look good naked.”

First, who says you have to weigh 200lbs?
Second, if you’re not gaining weight, you’re not eating enough. Plain and simple. You are eating enough to weigh 185lbs, if you want to weigh 200lbs, eat like it.

at 6 foot 2 you better weigh 230lbs. You need to start eating a lot of protein and getting in a lot of calories. Go on a crazy mass phase. How much you squat, deadlift, bench press? You are talking about football! That is a sport with explosiveness and strength stamina. You lucky you got till next year. What kind of workouts do you do? Start working on your legs and put a lot of mass on them because they will help you in pushing people around and exploding into the holes and tackling. laters pk

You don’t need to be a certain size to play ball, you have to be good at football. That being said, size will help. I would do a negative only workout (if you can get training partners to help) and eat a bunch.
