Walkin PW

I am without a car for the next two months. And the gym is a 15 minute walk from my house. I walk that distance.

So there are two questions i have.

  1. What effect does walking after the workout have on your anabolic window?

  2. The post workout drink ( one serving Surge in 900 ml of cold water), should be taken when? After the workout as usual? On the way back home or during the walk? or after i reach home?

I am currently trying to bulk. And I am currently using Surge after the gym, a quick shower a 15 minute walk back home then a 100 gram maltdextorin and 40 gram protein shake, 20 minutes later resuming the actuall whole food based meals.

Well, as far as walking goes, I believe what Chris Shugart said in a guest Atomic Dog column awhile back:

in short, “Walking is not exercise!”

I don’t think you should worry about a brief walk impeding your growth. I would say drink your Surge immediately PWO, and then walk home (heck, that’s what I do). The light activity will keep your blood circulating. Result: flushing out any wastes from your muscles and helping all that fast-absorbing PWO nutrition reach its destination. I doubt anyone could hope for better results by sitting on their ass in the car!

Beyond that, I believe that thinking too much about “Exact optimal timing” for your nutrition, give or take 5 minutes in this case, is really getting carried away with minutiae. You’re on the right track already. Enjoy the walk!

I personally feel a nice slow paced walk after your w/o might actually do you some good. A bit of light cardio and a good way to cool down after the tough w/o.

I would take you pwo shake in during the walk, and enjoy. The walking will keep the ole blood pumping and possibly even help shuttle the nutirents where they need to be even faster.

Just my take on the situation.

A lot of people put a short stint of aerobic effort at the end of their workout. Your walk will be pretty light duty. I doubt it will have any effect with respect to getting your PWO nutrition in time.

Well, its great to hear it has no effects that will hinder my growth. I am however switching the pwo drink to half immediately after the workout and half on the walk back home(just to make the walk more fun).

It will enhance recovery.

If you worry about “catabolic issues,” then you might as well go lay down right after your workout and not move for ten hours.
