PWO Meals

When done lifting, I have my servings of Surge. 1-1.5 hours after consuming Surge, I have a meal consisting of 2 chicken breasts and 1.5 cups of brown rice. 2 hours after that it’s 2 servings of oatmeal with 2 scoops of LC Grow. Is this an ok PWO schedule, or should I change the brown rice and oatmeal or change the timing? I’m looking more for gains than cutting, but I’m doing Renegade training so I’m not doing bodybuilding type stuff. Also, what exactly is cortisol? I’ve read some stuff on it but I’m not sure I get it exactly, so any help on that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looks pretty good and similar to what I do.

I have half my drink during training and the other half immediately after. 45-60 minutes later I have my first meal consisting of oats, cottage cheese and protein powder. Then about 2hours after that I have chicken, brown rice, brocolli and some chicken cacciatore sauce.

Tank, that’s *excellent PWO nutrition. And an xcellent choice of carbs, too!

Cortisol is a glucocorticoid. Its purpose is to maintain sugar (or glucose) in the blood stream. It’s produced by the adrenals in response to stress (i.e., dropping blood sugar levels).

When people work out too long and use up glycogen stored in the muscles and in the liver, blood sugar levels drop. As a result, cortisol levels rise. Cortisol “chews up” muscle to provide amino acids that can be converted to sugar by the liver.

For those of us trying to BUILD muscle, we have every reason to want to manage cortisol levels and keeping muscle from being broken down to provide the body (the brain in particular) with the blood glucose it needs. Spiking insulin causes cortisol levels to drop like a rock, which is why we take Surge PWO.

Thanks Terry. That leads me to another question. Since Coach Davies writes his programs so we are doing mobility, agility, sprint work and lifting all lumped together, my workouts certainly exceed the 90 minute limit. I also do some extra ab work at the end. Should I be worried about working out too long? Are there are any vitamins or supplements I can take to prevent this from happening? Or is my PWO Surge OK?

Why not have a serving while you workout? This is what I do. I always have my first drink while I workout and then another immediately after, I then count this as one meal. What better time to take in carbs, protein, and aminos then when your muscles need it most.

Tank, do your ab work at a different time than your workout for Coach Davies. And it’s not really a 90-minute limit. It’s more like an hour to 75 minutes. Try speeding up your workout a bit, if you can.

I agree with snippdawg. Start drinking your Surge during your workout. Excellent advice, there. It’s just a case of minimizing the damage and maximizing the benefits.
