Caught a 2 hand mini-cockback from the dotted line last night, but shattered the screen on my phone so no vid [sad face]. That was probably the best dunk I’ve had since I’ve been playing again, which means it’s the best dunk in the last 3 or so years. It felt awesome. Also caught a pretty easy 2-hand dunk off 1 step. Sorry about the lack of recent vids, but gonna get a new phone today so new vids are coming soon. Y’all be good.[/quote]
That sounds awesome. Must feel good to be back.
Question for you and the others:
I don’t know if you guys have ever been heavier, but how much extra vertical you get from losing weight. Would you say about an inch for every 10 lbs sounds about right? More/Less?
It’s a theoretical question so I know there’s not going to be a magic answer but just curious on your thoughts. I’ll have better insight myself when I start losing weight in August.[/quote]
None.
But I think I did it wrong I did 2 miles 6-7mph on a treadmill 4 days a week, and ate much less. Dropped 15 - 20 and still jumped either less or right around the same.
I go up and down pretty frequently because I sweat insane and eat inconsistently large or a little. If I lose 5- 8lbs of sweat in one day I gain a noticeable amount of speed and jumping ability but over time no.
I’ve gained the most when rehabbing the knee/ strengthening it and re learning how to jump. Hopefully your knee is not as f’d up as mine, but if it is, then even if you gain 5 inches over the next 5 months you will lose it over the year and end up worse.
If you lose weight in the process of increasing explosiveness I find that the overall best way, but there’s no numbers. You might gain an inch and stay the same weight. But if your doing 100 meter sprints and tons of vertical jumps and landings along with squats so much so that it causes you to lose weight your vertical will go through the roof.
When I went from 230 to 215 i gained about 4" on my vert. Of course i also got stronger in my lifts so that contributed as well. I dunno how much my results would relate to you either as my vert is a little bit higher than yours. I have no idea if/how much it matters

I’m not sure I’m understanding you here. How is that you lost what you gained and it ended up worse? Did you push a little too hard and mess the knee up more? So far gains have been steady but slow since I got a new therapist and started pushing in the weight room (knock on wood)
My problem is I have zero explosiveness. It’s an issue with stability and strengthening the smaller muscles couple with not trusting my knee. Pre-surgery, my vertical of a few steps was at least 4-6 higher than my standing. Right now, it’s like a 1-2 inch difference.
@sam_sneed: what exactly did you do to your knee again? You might have mentioned it before but i missed it. And also what exercises are you currently doing for it? I have had some knee problems before as well.

Tore my ACL, meniscus and cartilage playing football. My body twisted 180 degrees but the cleat dug and and kept my leg stationary. Snap. I got ACL cadaver replacement but there was some side effects from the surgery (problem with screw) so it’s a slow recovery. I go to physical therapy twice a week and workout twice a week:
Wed: unilateral leg curl, unilateral leg extension, unilateral leg press, lunges
Sat: Lunges, weighted hip thruster, unilateral HS leg Press, any leg exercise I feel like doing
Edit: I shot around today and was about 2 inches from touching rim off a couple steps without my brace. I’m still a little scared to jump 100% effort off the steps. I’m going to put my brace on next week and see if I can go all out and touch it. It makes me laugh considering the 1st time I touched at 10 ft rim was in the 8th grade.

Your videos are awesome!

thanks man glad you like them
well ya, i do this weirdish windmill, it still wont land though, i simply suck at dunking lmao…
check it, some really hard misses on here… last 2 sessions ive finally committed to trying some windmillish variations and tomohawk:
i really love that first one… so my goal this month is to land those and more variations… im dedicating this entire month to actually trying that stuff every session… i tried a mil like once in may heh… pathetic, need to go for it more, that’s what ill do in june.
sure dude, awesome, need more people posting their dunk footage/training in here… this is like the dunk/vert constant blog thread… lol
Your next compilations are going to be impressive for sure
I have no idea why - but I’ve tried every format that you can use to download onto YT and it’s keeps producing a darker image than the original, so apologies for the darkened image.
^^Holy shit… how tall are you? You barely have to jump to dunk! hahah 2nd time dunking in 5 years? With a little practice you should be throwing down some sweet dunks.
adarqui- that last dunk video (the longer one) was sweet. you had a good cockback lookin dunk early (around the 1 minute mark if I remember correctly?) there were some sick ones in there… With a little practice I bet you’ll throw down some different dunk variations pretty easily. Do you ever practice tricks without the ball?
I dont know if thats a good technique or not but I’d think it would be a lot easier to get your timing down on 180’s, 360’s, windmills while going at it without a ball? Get the timing/movement down and then introduce the ball?
That could be way off base but just a thought? My ankle is feeling almost back to normal (finally) so hopefully I can get some jumps in this week and see how sad my vert is since I havent been able to jump in 2+ weeks lol
^^ Thanks Greg - haha yeh I’m 6’5 with long gangly arms, so it does make a difference.
Practise indeed, alot of it - hopefully I can get there
I had a long stretch without going near a ball, court or ring - now I’m back mucking around again, it was the happiest moment I’ve had in a long time - felt like such a moron for taking so much time to do it again.

2nd time doing dunks in about 5 years
nice man… from the looks of it, you need some more reactive work, such as jump rope for now etc… some of your landings look ‘unstable’, need to get lighter on your feet… i’d def incorporate more jump rope and some short sprints etc to help get your muscles used to really quick contract+relax, looks like it would help alot… just the simple stuff for now.

thanks man!#@!$
nah i never do that, i hate “Wasting jumps”, so, id always use a ball… im too bored practicing on low rim so, gotta just keep trying on 10’… ive had some really hard misses on those tricks, so im cool with that, they will fall if i keep practicing…

that’s why i don’t play games… stupid injuries like that hope you heal up quick.
i’m starting to work on single leg jumping now… think i have more potential with single leg.
Sorry about the lack of recent vids y’all. Know I keep saying I’ll get some new ones up, but they’re coming soon, hopefully within the next few days. Have been putting down some better and better dunks [even caught a 2-hander on the break in a game yesterday], just haven’t been taking vids. I’m digging the recent activity around here fa sho. Also, pretty sure that I’m back to a 40" off the run based on how high I can get my forearm to the rim. Y’all be good.
undicember- sweet man. Yeah you do have some long arms… a little more work and you’ll be throwing down some nice dunk variations i bet.
adarqui- I hear ya on the not “wasting jumps” thing. That makes sense. I’ve got a buddy of mine from highschool that can 360 and hang on the rim with both hands but cant dunk. Its seriously the weirdest thing ever. He is 5’8" and about 145 probably lol… skinny little guy but he has crazy hops… but I guess being able to do tricks with no ball doesnt = tricks with a ball (is that I’m gettin at)
WF- thats sweet. How high can you get your forearm on the rim? Looking forward to seeing some vids.
I’ve been struggling with this ankle thing and my weight has crept back up a bit (213.5) at the gym yesterday… Kinda been lax on my diet lately. I have shifted my focus a bit on prepping for the Fire Academy PAT… but after that I’m going to get back to a little more jumping.
Thanks man. Haven’t been practicing jumping, just playin’ ball 4-ish days a week [when my body’s not broke, haha]. Tried a couple of weeks ago and got my wrist 4-5" over the rim. My standing reach in shoes is 7’7", and I’m guessing that was around 11’ so that would put me at a 41". Obviously that’s not super accurate, but I feel it’s pretty close. The funny thing is I can catch 2-handers with little effort, but with my injuries my body’s still “got the chains on”, and I can’t explode like I used to. It’s getting better though, so I’m confident I’ll get back. Gonna try and get in there tonight after the game and put down some dunks. If I can get some vids, I’ll post 'em.

Thanks for the advice - I really appreciate it.
I completely understand about getting lighter on my feet, everything felt very rigid that day. Wasn’t pretty.
Just an easy self bounce 2-hander. My knee was absolutely killing me so just wanted to get something easy. If I can ever get healthy I’ll post better dunks. Need to listen to my body 'cause I’ll run fullcourt pickup until my knee hurts, then play a couple more games. Need to just call it if it hurts. This past Monday I landed some nice dunks, but no vids. More coming soon. Y’all be good.
