Vert/Speed Training Thread

ok here’s some more dunks, prolly my best two hander in it… that was actually my first max dunk attempt, i do warmup dribble attempts (landed one in the vid, had some nicer misses)… so many people at this damn gym, couldn’t stay in rhythm, this footage is from like 2:15am to 2:45am.

5’10 guy who flys in it… he was basically done balling for the night when he did those dunks, i imagine he played tons of full courts etc… i saw him windmilling/reverse pumping IN GAMES etc… so i imagine he had played a ton of games… for him to fly like that after playing all that ball, … kid is RIDICULOUS.

would be nice if he saw the vid and wanted to get more dunks on film.

peace

bleh crappy dunk session, although, the short run up lob dunks (warmups) are kind of cool… i actually like how they look “softly dunking it in” ahaha… it’s a much different vibe to it… need to work on those more when I feel shitty, need to land some two handers off that runup distance.

peace

I think the two hand dunks just look so nice. I’m not really sure why but they’re just smooth looking

Played basketball today for the 1st time since knee surgery. So fuckin frustrating. No hops whatsoever. For a guy that relied on athleticism for most of my points and rebounds it’s just a bad situation.

I recorded a layup. I’m going to check back in this thread on my road back to dunking with some videos. The best I got right now is slapping the back board on a layup (something I’d do in the 8th grade). Next videos will be touching the rim, hanging on the rim, then hopefully one day a dunk off the dribble. I’m 6 238 today and will expect to be around 210 when I’m ready to dunk.

It happens man. I’ve been so pumped that I’ve been able to dunk lately that it caught up with me yesterday. EVERYTHING hurt. I caught one lob 2-hander and decided I need to rest my body. Pulled my groin last week, my feet are tight and for the first time in awhile my knees were achey, but part of that is probably due to the super cold weather here lately. Give your body a couple of days rest and you’ll be fine. That slo-mo missed 1-hander looked nice. Know I’ve been slacking on the vids, but gonna do my best to get down some reverses and other stuff on vid next week. Y’all be good.

Just give it time man. Try not to get frustrated. You’ll be back in no time.

turn that frustration into determination, which is what it sounds like you did anyway…

can’t genuinely be frustrated with that jump given the circumstances, first jumping after ACL surgery aint going to be good regardless…

so ya, don’t dwell on the negatives, stay positive, progress back safely (don’t go apeshit), get that weight down, improve your strength, and get those goals man.

damn sucks man, and ya i feel really bad in cold weather compared to warm, i have so many old injuries that like to resurface in the cold…

thanks man, ya i’ve been trying to transition into a one day on one day off routine for the next few weeks, it’ll allow me to rest more… so far no good though, first rest day i couldn’t sleep at all, body was just too “awake”, the weightlifting addiction… anyway i went and dunked with no sleep and surprisingly it didn’t turn out bad, the weirdest part was i was getting higher 1.5 hours in and still wanted to dunk but i ran out of footage on my “tape” for my cam… hah

planning to lift heavy tonight, rest good thurs, and absolutely destroy an outdoor rim friday… ive been dunking at that flat/crap surface 24 hour fitness for like 3 weeks now, i feel so much stronger on concrete… so friday is going to be big i know it.

ya just stay healthy tho that’s #1

peace man

thanks dude, i usually do them now when i throw a bad lob that doesn’t go high… i never even plan on it still haha… i actually have to force 2 handers though on concrete, as i realized today, because my ball bounces so freaking high on concrete compared to that indoor gym…

i landed a weak two hand reverse today by accident hah.

i want to start catching my high lobs two handed now though, and then throw them down with 1… i think that looks really sick… gotta work on that.

jonsey does that alot, check his channel out i think it’s http://youtube.com/zjballer … he has NASTY dunks

Yeah, Portland stays cold and rainy so I shoulda seen the aches coming, haha. The concrete doesn’t jack with your ankles/knees/whatever? It’s been awhile since I’ve tried but last time I played on concrete everything ached for at least a week, though I have been feeling way better lately. Man, I’ve put down some decent dunks the past couple of weeks [2-hands off drop step, lob reverse, 2-hands off the glass, shit like that] but the gym stays so busy that I feel kinda like a goon asking everyone to stop so I can break out my phone and take a vid/vids. I need to find a time where it’s slow and see if I can sucker someone into taking a vid without feeling like a showoff, haha. Oh yeah, apperantly there’s an IBL team here and some of the dudes on the squad play at the gym.

Thanks guys. Patience is definitely not a strong point for me. My knee flared up from those couple basketball games so I have to take it easy for a couple weeks. I’ll be back though.

when i record my jumps I have a spot where i can set my phone up and I push record. It makes the videos pretty long but i just edit them down.

thats how i do it… I dont know if thats an option at your gym though.

^^^ Do you have a portable stand or something or do you prop it up on a chair or bleachers, etc…? My gym doesn’t have any chairs/bleachers or whatever, but I’ll see if I can bring something in and prop it up. Or I’ll just stop being a girl and ask someone to catch a quick vid.

the gym is lined with a little pad on the wall so you dont smash into concrete. I just set my phone on top of the pad and it stays there just fine for recording (I have the new iphone so its thin and flat. perfect for the top of the pad)

thats what I do. Just push record, set it on the protective pad and then jump away.

but yeah… stop being a girl! hahaha

Haha, I’ll do my best. My groin is still jacked up [getting old sucks. Takes forever to heal] but I’m gonna try and play before lifting tonight. If I can do anything without too much pain I’ll sac up and get a vid.

EDIT: My gym has crash pads but there’s no goals on the side so the angle wouldn’t work for a vid.

^^ahhhhh I see. I guess I lucked out with the hoops on the sides.

Ok so i tried a little jumping today after being out of the gym for 2 weeks with my cold… i still have the cold but went anyway cause I was going crazy.

Well I hung on the rim with my second jump which was nice. I havent lost any spring while being sick apperantly. OK so on my next attempt I tried a faster run up and tried to be more explosive. I got up, hung on the rim, but with my forward momentum being greater than usual my body swung out, my grip slipped and I busted my ass in the middle of the gym lol. I wish I had my camera rolling cause it would have been pretty funny. I tried to do a little combat roll pop up thing but everyone still saw me. It was embarrassing… so that ended my jump session pretty damn quick lol

lmao dude, glad you’re alright though… i’ve seen people on youtube/vids get jacked up pretty bad that way (hips/back/etc).

being sick sucks, get better mang… this last 2 months i’ve been sick twice and had 3 staph outbreaks lol

haha yeah man I kinda twisted on the way down so it was mostly ass/leg/hip hitting the ground. I’m glad I didnt flat back it or hit my head… that would have sucked.

I’m working on getting better. I’m probably gonna have to hit the doctors office tomorrow cause I just cant kick this thing. It sucks… seems like everyone in the US is sick right now.

No vids tonight, but Greg gave me an idea. Gonna try and get in there earlier manana and if what I’m thinking will work, I’ll get a vid/vids.

Here’s a rim grab from the vert. The angle is terrible, you can’t tell anything. Posted this before checking the vid. Had some dunks but they looked just as bad so didn’t post 'em. Need to find someone to take the vids.
