Man, my right knee felt unstable up until probably 6 months ago. I really feel that box squats [really focusing on sitting back], ghr’s and consistent foam rolling and mobility work got my knees better pretty quickly. Traditional squats and front squats bug the shit out of them. Maybe give 'em a shot? I’m the same with a ball. Can palm it on the ground but lose it in the air. We’re also the same on how we first dunked. When I was in my teens I could dunk off the left or both. I seriously doubt I can dunk off 1 leg anymore, and I honestly don’t care to try haha. You’ve got about 3" on my standing reach. Get your knee issues sorted out and start jumping around as soon as you’re comfortbale. I’d put money you’ll dunk again. Good luck brother.
I can’t do any back squat variants because of a couple herniated discs in my lower back. For some reason, front squats don’t really aggravate them much but even 135 on a back squat does. I’m going to hit the college gym on my lunch break this week and see if I can do some layups and short jumps. Last time I tried in August it was a no-go. Either way thanks and I hope you’re right. I’d like to be ready for a fall or winter league this year.

BW 212.5 today
EDIT: I had to start a youtube channel to load videos cause this was getting ridiculous. Hopefully this video works.
looking big dude, nice jump… runup looked a bit slow but that’ll improve the more you jump & by really focusing on accelerating hard as fuck no matter how many lead in steps you take.

Thanks man. I weighed 212.5-213 today so I’m down 5 lbs over the past 2-3 weeks? I think the weight loss is helping my jumping. I am feeling a lot better at 212-213 than I did at 218 (my heaviest ever) I think the prime weight for me is 205-210 @8-10% BF.
I’ll definitely try a faster run up/approach. I checked your last video and noticed how quick your run up is. You get really fast/explosive on your last two steps or so. I’ll try that out and see how it works for me. Hopefully the extra force will translate into a higher jump.

Damn man, sorry to hear. Are dead variants out as well?

Yeah it sucks. I got bridged during gym time in high school and that was when it started. I can never do conventional deadlifts. On good days I can do rack pulls and single leg DL. There is a chance I can pull sumo as well when my back heals up. .

Dude, you can “add” a couple of inches to your jump just by getting better at your approach. That was damn near a walk up vertical.
x2. It didn’t look like you were going for a maximum jump at all. I’d bet with a little practice on exploding and coordination you could grab the rim with both hands with the same leg strength you have right now.
gregron wrote:
You guys really think so? I guess I really need to work on a faster approach. Any tips?
Not even a just faster approach necessarilly, but a lighter and more explosive approach. You kinda hulk stomped your way to the rim. Stay light on your feet, approach the rim with purpose, really “recoil” quickly into your spring, swing your arms back fast and throw yourself up HARD. If you just work on getting that down you’ll add up to 2" automatically, guaranteed.

Sorry to hear man. So front squats, hang pulls and single leg work is alright? Dude, you can get plenty strong and explosive with those. The dunk’s in the bag.

lol! I guess I did kinda
Ok I’ll work on that. I’ll try that approach next time. Should I take a day off and try some jumps tomorrow before legs or what? I was thinking of maybe jumping 3 times a week?

That’s not really my area of expertise, haha. since I’ve been here and my knees have felt pretty good I’ve played ball everyday before I lift, and have tried some dunks everyday [4 days a week]. Guess what I’m saying is jump as often as you feel you can.

ok cool. Yeah I know everyones different and all so I’ll just see how I do. I’ll just test it out now since i’m going to the gym. If I’m feeling good and fresh I’ll see what I can do. Will report back later
jumped some more today. My legs definitely felt a little less springy than yesterday but i was still grabbing and hanging on the rim. I was able to touch the rim with both hands today on my double reach jumps but barely.
I worked on a quicker approach and tried to be more explosive. It felt good on a couple of the jumps and I think that if I had fresher legs I would have gotten higher. Gonna see how I feel tomorrow with a few jumps.
check this guy who was at the gym, he was around 5’10 or so, absolutely flying… he was landing mills/reverse pumps IN GAMES… this was after a bunch of full courts:

he basically could have elbow hanged that dunk, based on how he landed it…
crazy hops
That’s an awesome pic. Check out Jahii Carson. He’s a senior in Arizona, and I think the best HS prospect in Arizona right now. This picr eminds me of him. Absolutely ridiculous bounce.
