Vert/Speed Training Thread

It just dawned on me that I actually argued with someone without full mental capacities about 3rd grade shit on the internet. That’s pretty silly. From here on ill let my vids do the talking. This place used to be pretty cool. Too bad.
WhiteFlash wrote:
Dude, you are probably the most pathetic person on this site. I shit on you in every athletic category. EVERY ONE.
shit on me how? proof? list the stats, can’t wait to see you deflate my vert considerably and inflate yours, you are SquatDr Jr.

Almost laughed at that insult but then I realized I was watching one of your low rim dunk videos while reading it.

Do it, post the rim measurement, guarantee if it’s 10’ you will be throwing down weak shit.

Exposed.

Right on breh u tell em`!

Makes tons of sense, you should work for a thinktank firm. I could care less if you actually jump higher than me, or do better dunks, but you don’t jump higher than me and you dunk on low rims.

Like I said:

 1. Use a better cam
 2. Dunk on 10’ not 9’10 or less
 3. Measure the hoop on video
 4. Don’t step off the side of a box while touching the vertec and say that’s your 38" vert

Oh really, think about that for a second. All I do is post legit videos, and you, with your “living in the past ego”, comes in and talks shit, every time. You even dissed my vertec jumps. You want 3rd grade mentality, look in the mirror, 3rd graders don’t know how long 12 inches is, or maybe 12 inches looks really big to them because they are little midgets like yourself, whatever the case may be, you continually talk shit on my vert when i’ve posted more than enough proof.

Look in the mirror superstar.

Good, I told you that months ago, and you actually said the same thing months ago, I guess you don’t aren’t for real, your word is shit, because you keep talking shit without posting those new videos, while I, post tons of legit videos.

This place is still cool, but faggots like you ruin it. People post videos in a vert/speed thread, then “Mr Bum Knees Living In The Past Used To Have 40+ RVJ But Now My KNees Hurt So Ill Talk Shit” has to come in and try to diminish people’s hard work.

Yall be good.

Went into the gym today and did a little jumping. I spent the weekend on vacation, looking at possible wedding venues, going out to eat every meal and drinking/eating shit all day during the superbowl lol

After shooting around and warming up for 15 minutes or so I tried a few jumps. Still getting only 2-3 inches above the rim. Then on my way outside to hit the weights I though “Hey I’ll try one more jump on the outdoor rim” Well that was a mistake cause I seriously tweaked my right quad lol. It sucked so bad. I didnt slip or anything but just tweaked it on that one jump.

Thats my only update. Not a good one. Pretty much my Vert is the same as it has been for the past 6 months or so even though I’m weighing 5-6 more pounds than I did. Weighed in at 218 today.

damn did you cool off first, before the tweak?

i don’t jump after i get cold, for that reason… once im cold i’m done.

how often are you jumping again? if you’ve maintained vert and gained 5-6 lb, you’ve increased it ‘relatively’, so, that’s still a gain, in the relative sense… if those 5-6 lb include water weight or some fat, then you could expect an inch out of that if you lost it while maintaining strength. Probably some muscle & water though so…

by the way, who notified you? was it joe mazza?

I didnt do the outdoor jump (where i tweaked my quad) after I cooled down. I literally walked outside and did that jump maybe 1 minute after my other ones.

how often am I jumping? Well I’m not really doing any dedicated jumping, per say. I usually jump once a week maybe? Usually i’ll just shoot around as a warm up and after I get warmed up from playing a little ball I’ll try a few jumps just for fun. I’m not dedicating any time/effort to just jumping (but I probably should)

I’ve gained 6 lbs but I dont think much/if any was fat. I mean i’m sure some was but I dont look any fatter than before (still have abs and visible veins in my arms/shoulders)

I’m in the process of leaning up a bit more right now so after I drop a little weight and get down below 210 (probably) I’d like to see how I jump.

Whenever he needs vert training advice he comes to me, yup. I got him +5 in SVJ in 4 wks using high freq dj+sq micros, also using my patented “banana diet”.

to gregron, ah… well, my advice is always at least 2x/week max jumping, no less… 1x or going a week without jumping is just too little of a stimulus to improve force absorption/explosive strength consistently… if lifting heavy is your primary training, and speed isn’t a primary focus of each rep, explosive strength will suffer… reactive strength will definitely suffer as there is just nothing that targets that strength quality when you’re doing heavy slow lifting.

peace

Still waiting for WhiteFlash’s video… My staph infection came back, 5 lumps under my red armpit, and my lymph system has freaked, flu-like system + chills etc, but I still managed to get some dunks in on video last night:

I jump higher than whiteflash with flu+staph, that’s pretty impressive.

Sincerely,

yours waiting for a 10’ measured dunk video, no 9’8"'s.

what makes it patented, does the banana go up the other end?

nope, 8 bananas a day, that’s my patented/more effective than balco formula.

eggs/chicken/whey/multi, but a minimum of 8 bananas a day.

hi, still eagerly awaiting whiteflash’s video on TEN FEET (not 9’8).

anyway, i still am sick as fuck (staph + some respiratory shit, croupe-like), but my jumping is getting better (almost normal) even though I am sick… landed a few nice dunks today and a bunch of hard misses:

jfyi, this is what a 10’ rim looks like:

hope to be normal on sunday night… then it’s on to consistent 40" rvj’s.

peace

Damn, just saw this thread and it makes me miss trying to dunk and jump high.

Whiteflash, what kind of knee surgery did you have and how long after were you able to dunk again? I ask because I had ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair and am hoping to get back to basketball. I was dunking a volleyball of 2 feet and missing 2 handed dunks off 2 feet by 2-3 inches. All this was at 6" 220ish with 275 front squat. My goal is to finally throw down again which I haven’t done since 17 years old at 150 lbs. I’m 34 now.

Sorry the vid’s sideways. New phone and a random as a camera man = weird angles. Had several more dunks but the camera man didn’t record right. No worries. Been playing ball for at least an hour before lifting, and it hasn’t affected strength too much. If anyone’s in there I’ll get some different dunks filmed tomorrow before ME lower, which will be the first time I’ve done legs since I got here.

Oh, if anyone doubts that this rim is 10’ this is at the pearl district 24hr fitness in Portland, OR. The number is [503] 222-1210. Call 'em and they’ll set you straight on that. I’ll only be posting different dunks, and the next few will be 2-hands off drop step, reverse, lob reverse, and some other stuff until I feel confident in my knees and my hops and I’ll start trying new [old] stuff. Y’all be good.

Hey man, I had some chunks break off my meniscus in my right knee that ended up getting under my knee cap. I also had what has since been determined as a mild rupture in my left patella that I waited too long to get fixed and it ended up developing gnarly scar tissue over. After the surgery on my right [Feb 09] I was dunking again by mid summer.

But, the left knee was fucking killing me and docse were diagnosing it as tendonitis. Once I finally figured it out all I could do was surgery or rehab, and I chose rehab. Didn’t play ball for a long time and just focused on foam rolling, mobility, box squats slightly above parallel and ghr’s, and my first day back on a court in close to 1/2 a year I could still dunk.

Dude, at your height with your horsepower you should be able to get it. Why not focus on something like the ws4sb 3 lower template? Get strong and work on jumping and you should be there fairly quickly. Good luck man.

Damn, you made that lob dunk look real easy. Good shit.

I had my surgery Feb 2010 but there were some issues with bursitis and the screw that holds the ACL in place. It was protruding and is now finally absorbing into the bone. But after 12 months, I am now finally cleared to train my legs with heavy weight. At this point right thigh is 1.5" smaller and 1/2 the strength of my left so I have a long way to go.

I’ll check out that ws4sb template. In the past run, I got some good results with front squats and hang cleans with focusing on the jump during the clean.Hopefully I’ll be back on the courts this summer. If I accomplish anything noteworthy, I’ll post a video here. Thanks alot for the info and good luck on reaching your goals as well.

Damn man… that dunk looked so easy! Watching the vids in this thread really make me want to dunk lol

Thanks man. Gonna try and get some more vids today. Damn, that sounds pretty heavy. My oldest brother tore one of his ACL’s twice. Do you have any lingering instability, or is it “too early” to tell? I imagine that the strength will come back fairly quickly now that you’re good to go. Dude, I love hang cleans. Feel like they help with the technique for 2-footed jumpers perfectly. Before I left Houston I was working on hang snatches with a semi-close grip before squats and I really liked those as well. Do you know you’re standing reach, and can you palm a ball?

Thanks Greg. Had some better ones but the camera man screwed up recording 'em. Gonna try and get more today. You been practicing on it? With your strength if you worked on jumping fairly frequently I think you’d be able to get it pretty quickly.
