Hey all,
Just wondering what the feeling/science of diet sodas, lemonades, and the such was. Thanks!

I stopped drinking soda about 16 years ago, and I have no intention of using diet versions (all the other stuff in soda is horrible for you).
Normally, I only drink water. But recently, I’ve mixed it up a bit by using Crystal Light. However, that’s as far as my “diet” drinking goes.
Good old water can’t be beat!
Water and unsweetened green tea.
A diet soda every now and then won’t kill you, but I wouldn’t make them my main source of fluids.
Just keep things in moderation. There’s no need to take things to the extremes.
The aspartame contained in diet soda stored over time can break down into formaldehyde and DKP, two very dangerous poisons.
Temperature creates two effects. First, the higher the temperature of storage, then the higher the level of DKP in the soda.
…Second, room temperature seems to create the highest levels of formaldehyde in soda. At very high temperatures, the formaldehyde breaks down. However, even stored in a refrigerator at cold temperature, the aspartame breaks down into formaldehyde.
Hope that helped;

Same here. I have been only drinking water and green tea for about two weeks now. If I need that taste of pop I just add a Crystal Light packet to my water. They have lemonade, rasberry, and such. Taste really good.

Don’t fall for the “sky is falling” claims about Aspartame. See the Urban Legends page on Aspartame to learn the truth: Is Aspartame Responsible for 'An Epidemic of Multiple Sclerosis and Lupus'? | Snopes.com
Somebody out there is going to create a problem about any “unnatural” food supplements, including the supplements that T-Nation members have found to be beneficial. We have a responsibility to NOT be Chicken Littles.
I agree with the statement that an occasional diet soda is nothing to worry about, but water should be your primary drink every day.
Well, regardless of the horror stories, I still drink diet soda every day. I haven’t turned into a two headed monster or anything as of yet. I’ll let you know if it happens though.
Agree w/ the water and tea. If you find that you can’t brew it yourself, the two best alternatives I’ve found are Honest Tea and Inko’s White Tea. Both are lightly sweetend, but no HFCS. I’ve only been able to find Inko’s at Trader Joe’s or other health food stores, but Honest Tea’s all over the place.
Crystal light also contain aspartame but I have it pretty much everyday it taste really good, just like juice. And it’s a nice little change.
Is the diet pepsi and coke with splenda out in USA? We don’t have it in Canada yet.
I am addicted to Diet Lipton Citrus Green Tea.

LOL,
Thanks. Keep me updated.
I used to drink Diet Soda all the time. Then my wife and I decided to stop drinking soda and have a glass of wine every night with dinner.
As a side note, I feel much healthier drinking a glass of wine with dinner and I only occasionally have a diet soda now.
Then again, my family runs a winery so I am biased :).

Checkout the D-Tap audio interview with Dr. Lowery (T-Radio, left hand side of page.) He addresses this is the second half of the interview.
Diet sodas get a bad rap on this site but I find them useful when I am low-carbing it. In the evening a glass or two will help supress those cravings for something sweet.

Man-made chemicals are good for you. Really!!! They’ll put hair on your chest, knuckles, and toes.
