Coming out of “retirement” this weekend. It will be my first meet in about 5 years. Back then, I was a bench specialist, so full power should be fun. My squat and deadlift are at an all-time high for me, not impressive in the scheme of things, but I have only been back in PL training mode for about 7 months, but we will see how it goes. I will be in the 181’s, raw. Not sure where I will end up, but my last working week I tripled 410 on Squats, tripled 415 on deads. My bench I took it easy. . . not too worried about bench right now. I should be around 405-415. I would like to total 1300, but again… first meet back in a LONG LONG time. Shoulder surgery, marriage to a beautiful wife, and having a blessed baby boy can distract you a bit. So, here we go.
Sacrifice the baby to the powerlifting gods for 100 lbs on your total. You can always make another.

Not this one. He is a keeper. He may be the next great one! Already doing toy truck pulls around the living room, and flipping some cars too. Strongman in training!
Hey,
I just competed at the ADAU/100% Raw Scrappy Joes single lift open. I weighed in at 172, and entered squat and deadlift.
Hit 501 on my squat
578 on my deadlift…just missed 6 bills.
I will post the deadlift video later.
Gotta fill out to a true 181…so im drinking gallons of milk. Peace.
Holy crap you descend fast. Nice lifts!

Did a 100% RAW meet today… Pleased with the results:
Great stuff! Those squats were DEEEEEP.
PR on bench tonight. I’m about 195 right now, so I’m hoping to stay under 200 for my first meet soon!
CS
335 2 board bench the other day for the first time and it felt pretty easy. Feel I’m good for 355 or so on a 2 board, we’ll see come meet day (April 7th - APC qualifier) what I’m good for.
Going to be competing in the 181’s, sitting around 205-207 right now so it’ll be a big drop but doable. I’ll most likely just be putting a qualifying total for nationals up since APC nationals is only 8 weeks or so after and that’s where I want to put in my real performance. At nationals looking to go 550/350/600 in the 181’s for a 1500 total which would be a PR for me as well as have my first competition elite total and would be APC records for squat and deadlift I believe.
After that I’m taking a walk on the wild side and getting into some single ply for a new fundraiser I started:
Save the Va Jay Jay
In my life I’ve had a lot of important women to me affected by uterine, ovarian, and/or cervical cancer so I’m trying to get a bit more awareness - since you always hear a ton about breast cancer and all - as well as raise some money for research. All proceeds will go to the M.D. Anderson research institution (one of the best cancer centers in the world, also where my Mom went and was saved during a 5 year battle with cancer).
I’ll be lifting single ply and taking donations based on my total, so if you’d like to donate feel free to contact me (still working on getting a site with a donation button up). Donate a nickel a pound or a flat fee or however much or as little as you want, every bit helps. For the record my squat suit (already ordered) is hot pink and my shirt will be as well. I’ll be the prettiest one up there!
So those are my plans for the near future and I’ll be documenting it more on my site - www.valhallatrainingsystem.com
Strong lifting going on in here lately!
Nice job LM, will be keeping up with this!
This is my first post on this site but I feel like it is a good spot to put it.
I don’t have an actual meet under my belt as I have been lifting for under a year. Though I’m looking to compete in 148lb weight class with in the month or two.
No belt or straps.
Squatted, tested Saturday @ 315 lbs
Deadlift, tested Saturday @ 415 lbs
Bench press, tested Saturday @ 195 lbs
Will be putting a lot more work into my bench press to bring it up.
Why wouldn’t you use a belt considering they’re allowed in every federation that is raw? I’m not saying use it all the time and in my opinion a lot of people use it too much, but for those top sets there’s no reason not to as it’ll keep ya safe and allow you to get more internal abdominal pressure.

I have not gotten around to purchasing a lifting belt yet.
Those are pretty good numbers for a 148 pounder. Great start.

Just curious - why compete in a meet so close if you don’t think you can even get some new PR’s out of it? I’m all for competing obviously, but competing essentially interferes with your training and doesn’t really help you get stronger.
At 195lb bw right now, been there for awhile. Done two cycles of 5/3/1 (bitched about getting the book for awhile, finally bought it, feel like an idiot for waiting and my bitching/moaning for). still a relative newbie (over one year of actual weightlifting) but it feels nice to be breaking PR’s.
(lb)
Bench 200 to 225
Squat 250 to 280
DL 250 to 285
Press 130 to 145
Gonna stick with 5/3/1 for at least two more cycles with BBB as accessory work and shooting for 250/325/340/165 respectively. hopefully the power of newbie gains will help me reach there
