UFC 69

AARRRRGGGHHH. I have no idea why GSP saw a left hook coming from a guy my height, and tried to duck under it instead of slipping back into the cubic light-years of free space that would have required less effort to get to, allowing himself to get D-Bo’d in the back of the head en route to getting knocked silly, throwing yours truly into a downward spiral of depression at the realization that if an utter physical freak with the dedication and resources of a professional can’t win the fights that he’s supposed to win, how am I ever supposed to get inspired to get anywhere with not being a big fat slug? sob

I liked Diego (especially the mariachi’s) and Swick until they came out and sucked. At least Roger Huerta is en route to establishing himself as the dynamo of the already-dynamic 155 division. I want that Mexican flag Tapout shirt.

It was right at the end. He rolled his head away and tapped the mat. No question.

I am more inspired by the underdog winning myself.

Agreed. If guys want to fight slowly, then do away with time limits and go back to the good old days. You can’t have it both ways: Stalling but also having time limits to get yourself out of trouble. (See, e.g., the takedown w/30 seconds left in the round.)

At least Kos had a take down. Fuck Head Sanchez fought like a scared bitch. After Kos took round 1 - I think he was putting it on Sanchez to try and win a round. But Sanchez didn’t have the stones to actually try.

Diego pretty much proved my assertion that he’s not near the fighter he imagines himself to be.

And what the fuck was up with the mariachi band? That pretty much set the tone for the fight.
I’m gonna have to agree with you.

Turning into the ref is a tap.

As he turned away you are seeing a tap. I am seeing a man turn away to try to to protect himself. McCarthy stepped in anyway at that point. It was simultaneous. At least that’s how I saw it.

Yeah the tap isn’t that clear. But for me, the way he turns away is an admission of defeat. It was a good stoppage.

I’m not sure what GSp could have done differently. When he got rocked i kept thinking he should pull guard and recover, rather than trying to stand up. But then maybe he would have been bombed out in that position anyway.

As for Sanchez, what the fuck was he doing? I don’t blame Koscheck. He fought his gameplan well and controlled the fight. Sanchez was the one who had to make something happen because he was getting schooled. He was chasing shadows and getting tagged. Why didn’t he just go for it? Get in close, go for the ko and maybe get taken down? At least he’d have punchers chance, or get taken down and try to work a sweep or submissions which he would have been perfectly capable of. what a shit fight.

Sokoudjou looks like the real deal. Great kicks, very strong. He defended the takedown from a beast like Arona and even hurt him in the process. The man has great kicks and serious power in this hands, all be it delivered rather sloppily. It makes me a bit uncomfortable the way they way they call him the beast and the jungle man, and ask him stupid questions like which animals have you fought. But that’s the Japanese for you.

Yeah, I would rather root for the scary, freakish, crushingly domninant bad guy/champion unless absolutely unconscionable. To me, it’s just smarter to identify with the person who should win 9 times out of 10…even if he annoys the shit out of you by showing you the 10th time.

I thought this was the fight of the night!

I don’t like either fighter and this is definitely a black mark on both of their careers!

Also, usually I’d lose respect for a fighter that reacts like Kos after the fight, but since I had no respect for him to begin with… I thought it was funny as hell.

This truely is the year of the Upsets. Lets hope Fedor or Crocop breaks it. You guys shouldve watch Pride 34. It would ahve blown your minds how many upsets there were.

Agreed. Sokoudjou is on a roll, first little Nog, now Arona.

Sokoudjou is my new hero. To somehow find his way from Cameroon to train with Team Quest, take two seemingly suicidal fights in a row that he was brought in to lose, and now he’s probably going to be ranked in the top 5 or 6 LHW’s in the world. He is a stud and a genuine class act.

The Japanese openeing video for Sokoudjou nicknames him Lionking. When asked what his favorite food is he says “rats”. Awesome
Why could they not have a middleweight tournament this year!

Who wants to see Sokoudjou vs. Shogun?

I’m wondering how good this guy is? I’d love to see Hendo and him training/sparring.

No way! There was a bug on the mat, and he was trying to kill it! (jk)

I thought it was still a good fight, and at that level, something like that could happen any time. I think it was Georges or Matt Hughes who said that before their fight.

I wouldn’t take Serra lightly, and now that the shock of GSP losing is gone, I wish Serra the best with his title.

GSP has been my favorite fighter for a while now, but both he and Serra seem like good, stand up guys off the mat.

Plus, Serra gets points from me for being only 5’7" and still getting around guys with a big reach advantage.

Thanks. It was hard to describe but easy to see if you are looking at the right place at the right time.

Holy Crap thanks! Even thought I knew JT was going to Win,Frye is still the man. Has anybody noticed that Thompson is pretty damn clumsy and cant throw a good punch? Check out his fights againts Aleks and this one. Btw,theres a entertaining photo of Soko.
