I love training traps but sometimes it gives me horrible headaches later on or the next day. Does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone have any recommendations?
I have, and a friend of mine had a really serious issue with the muscles clamping around a nerve and causing muscle spasm headaches.
The solution was to strengthen the other muscles of the neck to ballance out the tension in the spinal column, moving everything into a better position to function. We did this using a head harness and applying resistance from different angles using the upper and lower pullies of a lat machine, therabands, and hands.
That is a very busy area though and your mileage may vary. I was being trained/directed at the time by a guy WAY smarter and more educated than me, and I have no idea what resources he may have been drawing info from.
edit: actually, there is a good vid posted in the end of the neck training thread that is about exactly what we did.
