Training Personal Records

i failed twice in a row at attempted snatch pr today (195, was hoping to get 200-205 to hit BW)…i dont practice anymore so i cant be too upset, but squats went pretty well and the deadlifts flew up (first time i hit 355 for 8 and i didnt even plan on doing anything too much for them so that made me happy)

Way to go! Love the arms over the head at the end!

Thanks very much. I’ve been watching your lifts progress so quickly that you have actually been a topic of conversation during training. Is that flattering or creepy?

I bet if I got the argyle socks, I’d have no problem with 260.[/quote]

Great Job! To you both…

keep up the hard work… and its not just the gear.

been hitting PR’s consistently since I started doing westside four months ago.

pulled 455 last wednesday, up from 415
benched 305 last friday (touch and go), up from 275
squatted 375 today, up from 355

will try and post vids once i get to 5,4, and 3 plates respectively, before the new year if all goes well

hit 315x2 box squat after my inury last time i was only able to get 275x1, this is about 1 month back into squats since a two month lay off of them

Close-grip bench press
110kgx3!

Box Squat: 275 x 6 - a PR by 3 reps, weight felt very light today
315 x 2 - weight PR by 20 pounds

1 board press today

220 x 1 for a 5 lb PR

225 x 1 for a 10 lb PR

video situation isnt looking good . apparently my camera does not have PC upload capabilities (no USB port; Aud/vid port only). thats what I get for being a cheap bastard.

any tech-heads know a way around this ?

i’m very tech-stupid myself. hopefully someone can give you answers.

i hit the one board as well tonight but no PR’s on that. I did however hit a rep PR on neutral grip, paused incline dumbell presses.

140’s x 12

marauder - wow…you made that look rediculously easy…you’re a huge inspiration for sure!!!

I pulled 405 tonight…
not a huge pr fo lots of folks…
but im a little dude… weigh 175.

It felt great…

That’s huge! good job, that.

I hit 340 x 3 a squat last night.

My training partner hit 354. I will catch him and destroy him.

Slight derail: should I be using a belt?

Some recommend a belt for anything over 90% of max. I never use one, however. Don’t even own one. Word from some big lifters is that they do help increase one’s max, though.

Well, not a big PR by any means. But a “getting back into it” kind of PR. Decided to go back old school from before college and started with 5/3/1 method.

Squat- 355x8 which sucks but I’m way off where I was 14 months ago. Believe my PR was 460x9 or something like that. But I will be back my friends!!! Down to a skinny/fat 215 from a thick 221, but I’m back in the game.

Side note, does anybody have any suggestions on prices, brands, places to get video cameras? I want to post also dammit!

craigslist.org electronics section. Canon Powershot series seems pretty good and people are getting rid of some pretty good digital cameras that do video on there.

Need to do that myself…

TWP, I have a Canon Elph that I use on video mode for my lifts. It is wonderful - very small, good battery life so far, and the video quality is better than what shows up on youtube.

I have a hard time claiming PR’s that aren’t 1RM’s from the lifts I’m working on. It just seems cheap to me. If I gain 5lbs in any of my 3 lifts, then I will proudly claim that personal record.

An extra 2 reps in my dips doesn’t justify a PR. But its a step towards gaining in my bench. Or pulling 20lbs more from pins, won’t excite me until that transfers to the floor.

I just don’t like to over use something that important, for insignificant gains. When I get a new PR some day, you can bet your ass it will be put in bold, for all the world to see. Well, my world:) But until that day, I will just take the satisfaction of knowing I’m getting stronger, and moving closer to my goals.

not to be a stick in the dirt.

Great thread though Meat:)

I’ll be sure to come back when I pull that 300.

From the floor.

I don’t have any problem at all claiming rep or set PR’s. Sometimes that’s all I can get. The important thing for me is to build a psychology of success and attaining a PR each week does that. Being able to write them down in my log is what enables me to go after them each session and each PR - no matter how insignificant it may seem - builds towards my 1RM eventually. Those PRs are proof that I AM getting stronger.

Lack of them is also a strong indicator that I need to change something.
