New PR's

Just for us beginners, post some recent PR’s to help keep everybody motivated and pushing themselves…they can be BW gain, lost, or any sort of lift

Weighed 204 this morning and deadlifted 350x5 on my last set

Post away

This is a great idea. I’m in.

I got 100x10 dumbbell rows (each hand) yesterday.

I love doing those without straps till failure for grip strength

In .Squatted 365 last week, feels good.

got 205 for 5 on bench Friday  And got 215 for 3x5 on squats. I’m hoping next wednesday that I can blow 205 for 3x5 out of the water on bench, and 225 for squats.

Deads I finally frigging got 3x5 with 265…and had gas left in the tank, so hopefully on Monday I can get 275 then 285 on Friday. I’m cautiously optimistic.

Cool thread! Squatted 280 x1 on Wednesday and probably could have done 290. Weighing in around 220. Onward and upward!!!

Got a double bodyweight deadlift (345 lbs, I’m 170) yesterday!

Also, I finished up Dan John’s Mass Made Simple a few weeks ago and the last workout I squatted 185x33, followed up by 17 more reps after 2 minutes of rest, which I’m pretty proud of. Except for the irrational dread in the pit of my stomach before every workout, I loved the program. Surprisingly, it helped my bench the most. The 5-3-2 rep scheme is magic and I managed to get 225 for 5x3.

Took a week off, tested my bench, squat, DL, and press and now I’m on my first cycle of 5/3/1. Like stephan said: onward and upward!

Lately I’ve been doing them every upper body day. One day is 3 heavy sets, and the next is 2 feeler sets and then an all out set of 20-30.

I’ve been doing them every other workout, thinking of doing them every workout. Trying to work up to being able to do chins and pull ups using those and inverted rows; finally got a (sloppy) chin up after yesterday’s workout so I think it’s kind of working.

I can only imagine how you felt after those 33 reps…

I usually do an all out failure set and try and get a new rep pr every week, then do a set with straps

Wow, you guys are some strong beginners.

I’m on Dan John’s 40 Day Program now. The last two days I did 2 sets of 5 pull ups with 25 pounds strapped to my waist. And they felt easy.

Do you have a log on here? If not please start one. I’ve been searching for people who have done the program all the way through and haven’t had much luck. It’s an interesting concept and I’d love to see how it works out.

When you compare mine and our personal stats…we are a far ways off from anything but beginner lol

145 pound clean and jerk for five reps, and 105 pound snatch for five reps. Both done at 131 pounds. I will be posting some squat and over head press pr’s a week from now ;).

I don’t have a long right now. I’ve thought about it. But honestly, T-Nation can be a bit intimidating. That’s why I’ve spent so much time lurking (and learning) and so little time posting.

But I have thought about it. I’ll let you know if I do.

Perhaps you are right. I know added weight pull ups are not easy. But you and others have some pretty huge deadlifts and squats. That is mostly what made me say you don’t sound like beginners. If I compared my deadlift (265x3) and squat (135, 3x10 front squat since I don’t have a rack and am limited by what I can comfortably clean) to yours, I feel a tad weak. LOL.

But this thread is encouraging. Thanks for starting it.

sorry I meant to say in my last post when you compare mine and your stats to other lifters on this site…

I wanna join in here! Yesterday I deadlifted 365 which is 35lbs more than my previous PR last month. Got my first meet (USPA raw) coming up in October, hoping to hit 315 squat, 380 deadlift and 225 bench.

Here is a video on last nights session. The phone battery went out so I didn’t get the 3 last sets tho.

Anyone else planning to enter their first PL-meet soon?
