I was thinking today that a great addition to this thread would be vids of exercises that we feel are beneficial to our goals. Along with putting up a vid, we could also give tips on how to perform the movement and what we feel the particular movement may help.
For example, today i did Zercher squats off pins. I’m pretty sure not many people do this movement this way. I really like doing Zerchers from the bottom position because it removes the stretch reflex that you would get by starting from a standing position.
A few tips that i’ve found to make the movement more beneficial- when you set up, get your hips under the bar. As you break the bar off the pins, pull it back into your body. then as it nears your knees, really force your hips forward.
This movement really improves my deadlift and my squat out of the hole. It’s one of my favorite movements. It’s always rotated into my lower days.
Here’s a vid from today. this was 405x4. i videoed it from the side so you can see how i setup and how i pull the weight back into myself and force my hips forward. a common mistake is to just try and pick it up with your lower back.

Not in the same league as some of the videos here, but i thought i’d post anyway. Not a training video, but the first time i’ve been filmed, it was in my first comp.
The squat was a 2.5kg PR, just, the deadlift was a PR of sorts, i’d done it before but hitched it so it wouldn’t have counted. I definitely sold myself short on the deadlift.
The bench was not a PR, it was a 12.5kg loss from 2 weeks before. Live and learn.
I notice my knees go all over the place on the second squat, so any advice would be much appreciated…

vid was kinda dark , so I couldnt see the issue . but the knees doing the slinky on ya is one of those things to put on your “list of shit to remember when squatting”…along with the other half-dozen points.
BTW - MarauderMeat coaches me. I’ve had my biggest and most numerous PRs since I stopped thinking and just started following his advice.
and you’ve been making awesome progress. all i’ve done is point you in the right direction. you’ve done all the work. I’m so glad that you’ve decided to start competing. It definitely gives a purpose to your training.

My most recent PR was a 180kg/400lb x11 squat on Wednesday. That’s a 6 rep PR since the 11th of June.
Very nice set, it looks like you have been working hard for a while, keep it up.
Thanks man. I like to think I’ve been trying to work hard at least!
Here’s another PR from today, deadlift this time;
Only 215kg/475lb x6. Hopefully 495 x5 will go next time!
you’ve been doing a lot of raw lifting lately. I bet it really helps you once you get back into your gear. There seems to be a new trend of geared lifters getting more raw work in. Is there a particular reason why you are doing it? Any plans to compete raw?
I posted this one on my log but I’m still stoked about it so I’m putting it here too.
I finally doubled my body weight: 245 @ 121 lbs. I’m hoping to finish with 260 next month in Ottawa. At 245 I felt like I could have gone at least 10lbs more.

Way to go! Love the arms over the head at the end!
Thanks very much. I’ve been watching your lifts progress so quickly that you have actually been a topic of conversation during training. Is that flattering or creepy?
I bet if I got the argyle socks, I’d have no problem with 260.

I also have cheshire cat socks and ones with little gray pompoms on the back. My meet socks are black with white stripes to match the singlet.
I think 99% of my progress has just been learning to use the equipment. I’m sure I’ll hit a wall pretty soon here…but until then, what fun!!!
