Training Personal Records

Benched a paused 140kg last week, good clean lift maybe 2.5-5kg left in the tank.

Joining the party…

Got into a (old) used Titan Superior today and squatted 315lbs for a single. Had tons left in the tank. Was hitting parallel, not quite breaking. Weight didn’t feel heavy at all, so just need to work on getting comfortable in the suit.

My previous PR before then was 275lbs with wraps and a belt. I have a meet in 8 weeks and am looking forward to some much larger numbers!

I’m sick, so I thought I’d lurk a little around the strength training forum. I found this thread, and since I just got some PR’s last week, I thought I’d post them. I love the fact that my lifts are comparable to a woman’s lift whom I outweigh by about 40 lbs, it is good to keep things in perspective, and I can’t help but be impressed.

That being said two weeks ago I squatted 295x2 and I pulled 315x3 on the same day, which were both PR’s, no belt no kneewraps. I had a bench PR too at 185x2, which is my BODYWEIGHT :(. Someday I’ll be able to bench with two plates on each side… someday…

I’m planning on competing soon for the first time in philadelphia on June 6th in a raw division. I don’t have a projected total yet, as the people I train with are helping me with more of the prediction stuff. I’m hoping to squat about 315, and I have no clue what I’m going to deadlift, though I’m certain I’ve deadlifted somewhere in the 325-335 range.

If anyone else is going to this meet on june 6th let me know.

Competion (raw)
Bench 405
Deadlift 550
Squat 500

Gym
Bench 415
Deadlift 550
Squat 585

I never thought of setting a new PR every workout even if its a rep PR. Great idea.

First of all, nice numbers, especially on the bench.

Second of all, that week, the people that I train with were asking me if that was my best double and my best triple, and I was pretty sure that they were, and they asked me to start making notes of when I had a PR, even all the way to 5s in my workbook.

I got excited for those rep PR’s because I hadn’t done singles in a while, and those numbers used to be single PR’s for me.

160kg x 1 Front Squat (10kg PB)
200kg x 1 full back squat (10kg PB)

Shitty squats but I’m Fucking stoked.

When I say shitty squats I mean shitty numbers.

220kg deadlift (484lb)

and 3rm 150kg bench (330lb)

(I’ve repped out a single on 160kg but haven’t got around to recording it)

All raw at 90kg (198lb) bw.

Clean and Jerked 100kg before my knee surgery.

Not yet but I will.

395x1 bench with my metal bash. have a deload next week, which i desperately need, then a few weeks of commands before my meet.

still workin on my suit/brief combo tho. the metal briefs and suit seem to be too much for me as i already have trouble keeping the knees out…

Nice job on the bench. The briefs and/or suit might not be completely seated up in the crotch area. How many times have you used them and are they really tight?

A little trick that I used to do when I had trouble with the knees coming in w/ my Ace Suit was to roll the legs up - maybe a 1/2 inch or so. It’s usually recommended for guys w/ stumpy legs like myself, but it might help you out. Good luck.[/quote]

wow. sorry for not responding. i consistently forget which threads to check haha.

I have been struggling with keeping the knees out forever. It really should be my main focus. After this meet I will be making it a priority in my squat work.

I am not sure what the issue is with the suit, I think it is just me not being comfortable with it. The suit is not extremely tight, I can get it on myself. The straps are hella tight at my height tho. It causes me to collapse a little in the hole.

For now I am ditching the suit for squatting in the meet. Just going with the powerpant/metal brief combo. Seems to work well. I will be using the suit for pulling tho… I have dropped down a weight class and I hate acheiving lower numbers!

No biggie. Squat suits are never comfortable. The one I’ve used for the past few years is about 2 sizes too big and when I first used the thing it caused me to do the same thing. Just takes time and practice getting used to it. Having adjustable straps helps out a bunch, too. You down in the 220s now?

365 squat today! Did the whole yelling and slapping in the face thing, felt pretty good.

haha. my last comp i was in the middle of the 275 class. right now i am 245 so i figure i will just drop teh 3lbs and compete in teh 242s. i am not breaking any records anytime soon, but it will be nice to say i am stronger even in a lighter class.

I had a really awesome deadlift session on Friday.

After a light Squat warm-up

DL from 4? deficit
315 x 5
405 x 3
455 x 3 Belted
475 x 2 Belted
495 2 x 2 Belted
405 2 x 3

Rack pull from knee:
495 x 3
585 x 2

I?ve been sore all weekend.

Okay, so last Saturday I hit 335, definitely deep enough, still not near a max. Moved it faster and unracked it standing up more upright. I’m laying off the heavy squat singles for a bit and working on my Deadlift and pathetic bench. Doing some near max DL training Friday in the suit, so hopefully once I can figure out how to get down to the bar in it I’ll have some higher numbers too

I’m competing June 6th and trying to get a feel (and have my handlers get a feel) for what I can put up now that I’m in gear.

I recently completed the Smolov Base Meso Cycle and got some really good numbers out of it. It has thrown my PR’s a little out of whack since I made such fast progress. I have just started the Intense Meso Cycle. Here’s my heaviest set from today.

Squat
525x3 (PR +30lbs)

The most I’ve ever tripled was 495, but I have also hit that for 4 and 5 reps with Smolov recently. I’m still taking the PR, because I’m greedy PR whore.

Shit… Looks like there was some in the tank too. Smolov really seems to be doing the job!!

Getting down to meet time, so I get to be a bit of a PR whore…

yesterday’s bench session
315x3x3

dips
+125x5x5

today’s squat session
415x3
435x3 (still needs a little more depth)

Yeah, Smolov is treating me very well so far. The key has been in my recovery. Just getting plenty of food and rest, active recovery, foam rolling, etc. And just trying to maintain my Bench. We’ll see where it takes me in the next few weeks.
