since that box is about 2 inches high i can max free squat 335 ish and that was 405 so it helps get used to some heavy weight and make me feel cool
plus its the only size boxes at the school we train so w/e its helped
Clean and Jerk
215x1
Military Press
160x5 (+5 lbs)
tried for 225 but body shut down when I tried to jerk the weight. I think I could have got it if I had practiced technique more. Fugly tonight, to say the least.
Jerked 155 kgs on Friday. My front squat max and jerk max are now even…wtf lol. Also, my backsquat max is only 10 kgs above my front squat which is really strange.
squat: 345x2, had knee wraps on but first time feeling that weight for a non box squat ![]()
Deadlift, 365 for two sets of three off of a four inch box, was still pretty decent on form too…
Not a PR but a personal observation. And since this is my favorite thread (second only to the guy who had to fart during a massage) I will post here. Did deadlifts for the first time in almost a year. Went real light to 245x5. Observation: No matter how light the weight deadlifts completely drain you. I’m fucking toast right now and this isn’t close to my PR weight. Anyone else feel like this?
PS: Completely forgot how annoying those scrapes against the legs feel.

i have a saying that goes something like this-
“everything is heavy”
I’m always amazed at how 225 on the bench can feel heavy and then i’ll work up to 500 and it feels just as heavy. It’s the same with squats and deads. When I’m warming up, 225 feels heavy but as the weight increases it feels heavy but not much heavier. I’ve never had a day where i thought- “wow… these warmups feel light” I just tell myself that it’s all going to be heavy but hopefully it won’t get too heavy.

I’ve noticed that too , even at my current state of weakness . 215 (1RMish) bench doesnt feel that much heavier than 185 ; and 185 doesnt feel much heavier than 155…and so on. I contribute this to the “priming” effect of the working up process . if I went from a set with 135 right to a 215 single , or a heavier PR attempt , I think that would not end well.

What I’ve been experiencing lately is that the first three warmup sets feel painful and heavier than they ought, but as the weight gets heavier I feel less and less of a difference. The lower weights move faster but feel the same as the heavier ones. That’s true up till I try a new max and then even 10 lbs feels a lot heavier.
Weird.

This happens frequently with my squats. I will get done with my triples (working weights, not warm ups)and then move onto heavy singles. The first set feels like death and by the fourth and fifth I could probably do a double with the weight.

same here, if im not warmed up enough the later sets usually feel lighter because i get warmed up by that point
I have a bunch of updates:
Last week’s Monday workout I hit a 395 zercher squat. I think I’m going to have to start doing these off the pins like meat does though, because I can’t get any air with that weight on my diaphragm.
This week was my second heavy pulling day since I wrecked my hip a year ago. Got 545 for a single and then 635 with reverse bands. It was also my first time pulling in a suit.
And yesterday, got 515 off of a 2 board. This was a nice debut for my new APT Convict wrist wraps. Much more support than the Metal wraps I had before.
Zercher lift(deadlifted to knees, elbowed from there)
315x2 (+20lbs)
305x4(PR reps +…well, 4)
I got 335 from pins a few weeks ago, but these end up being anywhere from 2-4" below that depending on the plates I put under my feet in the rack. Much tougher, since I have to deadlift in a wide stance using a snatch grip to place it properly on the knees. Gotta stay cool in the transition of elbowing the bar. Very challenging. Arms seem to be the limiting factor here. I need to get some elbow sleeves rather than putting a pussy pad around the bar so as to keep the torque down.

Nice work on the zercher squat. I hear you about the air. I have to get my breath at the bottom, cuz there’s too much compression to breath in at the top. Hard to stay tight.

great lifting bro. those sumos are looking really good.
i find that the zerchers off the pins transfer really well to deadlifts. you can use more weight and stay much tighter.

i often have the same thing happen. i’ve just learned to not get concerned about it and just keep plugging along. often times my heaviest sets feel the best.

Good point and something I’ve just come into recently. An off training session used to send me scrambling to change the routine, because, obviously, “something must be wrong.” Hanging around you guys has made me a little more patient with days like that. Sometimes I purposely regress or rep out or just flat do less in a session and then come back improved. But the basic training strategy doesn’t change, now.
