Got 515 for a single off a 3 board. Also got 535 the next set, but I forgot to turn the camera on. Previous PR was 505.

And yeah, I’ve been having trouble with my ass coming off the bench.

Later that night, set a 1 rep PR on DB Bench. 9 reps with 120s.

Just got a new Flipcam (really effin cool btw) so I’ll probably be inundating this thread with lots of stuff.
it’s good to finally see some of your lifting. everything looked very strong.

for the ass lifting, what i do is get my feet back under me more and then as soon as i get my liftoff, i force my heals down the entire time. this will keep your ass planted as well as maintain a tight arch. the key is to consciously push down with your heels the entire time.

looks like a strong group of guys…

I did my first raw comp in about 2 years last weekend. It was done with about 12 hours notice, and 0 hours of prep. I’d been training heavy right up to about 72 hours before. I’d squatted 3x, benched 1x and deadlift 2-3x in the previous 2.5-3 months, AND I did a weightlifting comp right before it (85/110) and had to warm up my squat in between clean and jerk attempts so while all of these were PR’s and I hit a 130kg total PR, they were far below what I shoulda done;

235kg Squat:

140kg Bench:

250kg Deadlift:

EDIT: Thanks to Mod Phoenix for the heads up on my broken links.

On that bench and squat it didn’t even look like you were trying!
So true.

Thanks for the tip, meat. I recently changed my setup routine and that’s when I started having the problems with my ass lifting off the bench. I will give that a try.

Yeah I train with a pretty strong group (relative to most people). We have an elite 242 and a 198 with a 2000 single-ply total (Ryan Celli). Johnnytang, who posts on here occasionally, is a strong 198 in our group. He pulls over 600 pretty easily. We also have a junior level 275 that pulls over 700 in single-ply gear and benches over 400 raw.

It’s a privelege to get to be around strong people all the time. Lots of motivation.

no problem…

i wish i had that type of atmosphere. I have two really good training partners, but no one to really push me. I’ve never even trained in a powerlifting gym. they are pretty much non exsistent around here. i’m just lucky to not get kicked out of another commercial gym.

those are some strong numbers.

are you competing anytime soon? i have two comps coming up. one in february and another in march.

Lol thanks guys.

I missed a 250kg squat afterwards, which I shoulda had but got kicked forward at the bottom and let my chest drop. And also missed a 150kg bench (it was my 12th attempt of the day at that stage and I pressed it and then let it fall back towards my face about 6 inches up).

Yeah the atmosphere really helps. Plus Ryan’s gym has one room totally dedicated to powerlifting. It is a pretty sweet setup. I should do a video walkthrough just to show off.

I am doing a USPF push-pull Feb 28 in Pittsburgh. This will be my 3rd meet, the first 2 were bench-only. I dislocated my hip last January so I couldn’t do too much lower body for a long time. Just got back into squatting a couple weeks ago. It hurts pretty bad to sit back but I can do it, and it hurt a lot more watching everyone else squat when I couldn’t.

Where are your comps and do you usually do them that close together?

I’ve had my fair share of setbacks as well. But now i’m 100% and getting stronger. I have a meet the same day- February 28th here in VA. It’s a push/pull meet in the SPF. I really like that fed. I compete raw and they have a huge turnout of raw and equipped lifters. right now i hold records in the 259 and 275 pound class. i’m sitting at 290 right now. i’m think’n of competing as a 308er and hopefully breaking more records. it would be cool to hold records in three classes.

the meet in march is just a local meet. i go to help spot and judge. i will probably just do push/pull and only a first and second attempt.

do you compete equipped or raw? what kinda numbers you putting up? from the look of the vids i would put you in the 240’s.

I compete single-ply, but I’d like to get a raw meet under my belt this year, probably in the summer.

My best competition bench is 451. I don’t have any competition squats or deadlifts to speak of, but my best gym lifts are a 585 suited squat and a 585 raw dead. I’m sitting around 230-235 right now so when I get a little more competitive I will cut down to the 220s.

EDIT: Did you ever think about doing Eric Talmant’s meet in FL (RAW Unity)? Ryan said it’s run very well. He does it every year.

140kg x 3 Close Grip Bench Press.

I don’t think so. I think you just to have a qualifying total.

Thanks for the compliment. I’d like 'em to be better but I’m sure even Donnie or Andy would say that.

arched back good mornings 75kgx1
only started doing this exercise 2 weeks ago did this today felt tired before training but theres a pr

Squat 405x1 (25lb PR)
Deadlfit 475x1 (20lb PR)

Old PR’s were set 5 weeks ago. Ran sheiko and found it to be to my liking. Just don’t ask what happend to my bench

Vids are in my profile, I’d attach them if I could figure out how.

box squat: 315x5 +1 rep, 405x1 +60 pounds, all i can say is fucking a, i just slapped my self around and pushed with all my might and i guess thats the result

two days later: fat bar press: 290x1, never done these before but i was amped on anger so its 10 pounds better than my regular press so i think thats good

Military press from rack(@ tip of nose)
185 3x3 (rep PR +2)

gonna try to film my hex deads tomorrow, should be fun going for 450 plus

Got 230 on the bench press for a PR single. Yes a single. It may not be big for a lot of you all but it was a huge moment for me. Was stuck at 225 for the longest. Smoked it too. Probably could have hit 240-245.

ended up getting 505, will post video once my friend sends it to me (his camera so it has to upload on his comp), it was so sexy

So here’s a years worth of squat progress:

23/12/07 - 170kg x5

23/12/08 - 200kg x5

The former was my PR at that date, I went on to squat 245kg in single ply gear at my next comp. It moved to 180kg x5 mid way thru the year and I squatted 272.5kg 6 weeks after.

The latter is a HUGE PR for me and should leave me nicely set up for a very big squat when I next compete in March/April, and tbh i’d be hoping to have hit 210-215kg x5 by then.

Hey - a PR is a PR. I was excited the first time I hit 230, too. Congratulations!
