Torn Rectus Femoris - Long Head

I had a quad injury a couple months back. My quad was so swelled up at first, I couldn’t tell anything was seriously wrong. After about a month, the swelling started to subside and I could see a baseball sized knot at the top of my leg. Upon flexing my quad, it contracted even more at the top.

Finally went to the doc, he diagnosed a torn long head of the rectus. Anyone ever done this? Suggestions on rehab?

The doc said I would be able to get back to full strength without surgery. Surgery on the long head of rectus is pointless he basically said.

Even before going to the doc, I started squatting and doing normal leg workout minus lunges/split squats which hurt too much. I used lightweight and just concentrated on doing something rather than not working legs at all.

If you have completely torn your rectus fem then no amount of stretching, foam rolling, or ART will restore length to the muscle. It may provide some symptomatic relief but your muscle will probably always look different. Kind of like guys who rupture their bicep and never have it surgically repaired.

I’d go with BBB’s advice
