Whether tis nobler to throw yon iron plates about, or to leave them at rest…
Ok ok…
I am currently on the V-Diet and just starting to get over what I believe was a case of adrenal fatigue and/or vitamin deficiency. I have been improving slowly over the last week or so but have still had trouble sleeping; 6-7 hour nights on occasion, instead of 8.
I overdid my lifting a little bit on Monday (currently performing the Russian Bear program from Pavel Tsoutsaline (sorry I probably butchered the spelling but I am in a hurry)) using a high rep range of 10-12 and have felt a little stiff/sore yesterday and today. Today should be my next workout (bench/row/squat) but I am rethinking it given that I only managed about 4 hours of sleep last night.
Since I am just coming back to training, have an active job, slept little, and overworked a bit on the sets Monday, should I take an extra day off here and just shift my calendar working out Thursday/Saturday/Monday next week?
I do not want to fry my nervous system again, though I am starting to feel more awake now… though that is the contrast showers and HOT-ROX talking; especially the HOT-ROX.
Good luck with the V-diet. That diet has become a popular “proving ground” diet.
It took me about a week to get used to the horrid feeling of starving all the time. I would advise you to look closer at the “balance” in your life. Chris did a 10x3 protocol for training (I believe)…but how active was he outside the gym??
You seem to have your hands full with the j-o-b and what not… get a good grip on the balance and alter your training accordingly.
Believe it or not I have been through the V-diet twice already, though one time was as a much altered fat fast before the V-diet was defined.
I do have a tendency to overdo things, which is why I wound up with fatigue in the first place (and this has not been the first time I have hit that wall either). I probably could stand to be eating more calories but I hate to overestimate either and I am not sure I could fit another shake into my schedule (I only get so much break time at work, and do not like to be eating right up to bed time since I take some pills that require an empty stomach including ZMA).
I have had one or two drowsy patches today, but for the most part have felt up. Much of the body soreness has worn off over the course of the day as well. I guess I will give lifting a go, but take it easy, being more conservative with my estimates for starting weights.
My aunt practicly insisted on going out for dinner (I was not going to try to explain to her either the physical nor spiritual aspects of my fasting/dieting phase) so I am going to have another big salad tonight. Hopefully that helps me recover, along with a good night’s rest tonight. I expect to catch up on sleep since I do not work tomorrow.
Well I decided to lift. I did not focus quite as much as I would have liked, and this hurt my performance a bit I am sure, besides the sleep, but I still felt I got in a very good workout. The numbers I hit were very close to what I expected, and in fact I think I nailed my squat form on every set but the last fairly well. That is something I struggle with.
Altogether feel jacked up and energized right now. All soreness from yesterday disappeared during the workout fairly quickly. Assuming I do not hit some kind of hormonal/nervous wall tonight post workout, I should be ok for my next workout friday and beyound.
I plan on taking a glass of Airborne (for those not familiar, has echinacea, other immune boosting herbs, vitamin C, B vitamins, and the night time version has some calming herbs) before bed just for a little added comfort/healing.
Sleep was not as easy coming as I expected, and I did wake up once during the night, but overall I had a fairly solid 12 hour block of sleep last night with only minimal restlessness at a couple points. I actually still feel rather jacked up and energized.
I woke up feeling well rested, though just a tad sleepy until I popped my first HOT-ROX. My muscles definately feel sore and worn, but not in the same degree as Tuesday/Early Wednesday. One spot in particular felt as if it might have been tendon pain on Tuesday but I do not notice that now.
Last night’s “cheat meal” was a Greek salad. Looking in the mirror this morning I still look, and feel, thinner than I have thus far on the diet. I took the Airborne nighttime as I planned last night, and also sucked on a Zinc/Silver lozenge after waking up during the night.
Libido feels a bit off still. It was way down yesterday, but is up again today, just not at normal levels again yet.
I realized after reading some deadlift articles here last night that for years I have been deadlifting wrong. I have been getting into an ass to the grass squat stance and standing up. I never quite understood why I could stiff-leg deadlift more than I could regular deadlift but now I know; I was doing it all wrong. chuckles
So in short, I am feeling very good, and am looking forward to deadlifts tomorrow with better form.
