I originally considered trying the Velocity Diet back in early October in a reply to SWR’s Fat-Loss post. I was afraid that I would start it, and give up. I hate failing. I hate starting things that I can’t finish. I figured instead of starting something I wasn’t sure I could finish, I just wouldn’t do it. I changed my mind.
It seems recently everyone has decided to give the Velocity Diet a shot… some people trying something that resembles the Velocity Diet, at least. I’m going to try it out too. I’m following the diet as precisely as possible. I’m doing everything Chris said in the diet, and hopefully shedding some fat.
Now I know everyone is wondering my stats. I’ve only posted here a handful of times. As of this morning, at the start of the Velocity Diet, I weighed in at 239.6 pounds at 6’3" and around 25% bodyfat, give or take a little. Yes, I have pictures. No, I’m not posting them. Not now at least. Maybe at the end I will so you guys can see the progress.
To be honest, I don’t know why I’m going to do this blog. I would say I was going to do it so I was accountable to someone. Then again, this is the internet, and I guess I could just play along until Thanksgiving. I am going to do this to kind of feel accountable, but also so I can track my progress on here, and get any advice from anyone who has any. I imagine just about every question I could have about this diet has been covered, but you never know.
At ~240 pounds, according to the calculations, I need 1700 calories on non-training days and 2000 calories on training days. Fair enough. For the 170 calories, I’ll be taking 6 shakes spread throughout the day, with 2 tablespoons of flax meal in each. I’lll also be taking either 14 fish oil capsules or 2 tablespoons of natural peanut butter in my final shake of the day. On training days, 6 shakes with 2 tablespoons of flax meal in each and 3 scoops of Surge during and immediately following the full-body workout. As for supplements - a multivitamin and 4 HOT-ROX.
I’m planning on updating this once a day. More only if I have a question or feel the need for some other reason.
It has been much easier than I expected, so far. Had my shakes at 7:30AM, 10:30AM, 1:30PM, 5:00PM, 8:30PM, and just now at 11:00PM. Had 2 tablespoons of natural PB in the 11:00PM shake. I haven’t been hungry at all today, which I expected to be.
I imagine part of the reason why today was so easy is because it was day 1. It’s the beginning, and I’m pumped. Right now, I feel like I can do just about anything… 4 weeks will be a piece of cake. I hope the feeling continues… lol.
I do have one question. Is there anyway to make the flax meal mix better? Today, I threw the flax meal in the shakes and drank it. Then after the shake, I pit some more water in the shaker bottle/cup to get up the leftover flax meal and drank it. Any better ways to do this?
And thanks Doug Adams for the heads up. Surge is en route right now, hopefully here on Wendesday - won’t have it for my workout day tomorrow. I’ll take a look at the jug when it gets here and figure out how I need to rearrange the numbers on training days.
I did notice that I drank a ton of ice water today. And that’s it. Just water. All day.
Just back from the gym. I feel like I’m going to blow chunks.
I drank my first shake around 8:00AM, so it’s time for another. Problem is… I feel like if I drink it, I will spew everywhere. I’m going to wait about 30 minutes and hopefully I can get it down…
No Surge today… but I’ll have it for sure on Thursday or Friday, whichever day I workout next.
The workout was good. I can definitely tell I haven’t been to the gym in 3 weeks. Even though I know I can’t expect lifts to go up any during the V-Diet, maybe I can at least make it back to where I was a few weeks ago. Maybe. I didn’t superset anything today… just straight sets. I guess I threw this workout together.
Pulldowns 5x5
Flat Bench 3x8
Squats 3x8 (ATG)
Standing Calf Raises 2x8
Bicep Curls 2x10
I pussed out after the bicep curls because I wanted to puke everywhere. I did manage to get on the treadmill afterwards for 30 minutes, 3.5mph and incline 4. I did the treadmill yesterday as well. This should qualify as the fast daily walks Chris talked about in the original diet.
I just finished day 3 of the diet…I haven’t found some “amazing” way to mix in the flax but I simply use a normal shake bottle and every few chugs, shake it all up again. I find the flax stays suspended for a few seconds before collecting to the bottom, just long enough to drink some back. Works for me.
Currently on Day 3… still going strong. 3 shakes down, 2 more to go. I need to go do my walk, too.
I am surprised. I haven’t been hungry a single time over the past 3 days. Not once. In fact, it’s almost a chore to try and choke down a shake every few hours. This morning I had the hardest time drinking the first shake, and after I finally got it down, I had the bloated, I’m gonna puke feeling for several hours afterwards. That finally went away and I’ve chugged two more shakes since then, so all is well. I think I just don’t handle early morning eating very well is all. I’ll deal with it.
Still drinking a lot of water.
I had a rough time getting to sleep last night and woke up several times during the night. Not sure if that had anything to do with the diet or not. I took HOT-ROX at my normal time, so I don’t think it had anything to do with that. We’ll see how it goes tonight…
I also got my order of Surge today, so I’ll be in good shape for my next workout tomorow. I may post tomorrow’s workout plan later and see if there is any feedback. As long as it’s a fullbody workout, I don’t know if it’s possible to mess it up. I’ll post it and see what you guys think.
