Throwing Heavy Stuff Far

Somebody went for ubuntu sounds like.

Been running it for quite some time now, ever since feisty fawn.

On more mundane issues, the Jack got a job, starts tomorrow at 10:00am. At the restaurant in the lodge a mile up the road from us. I don’t think he’s ever had a job before, so he’s in for a surprise about how much effort is involved. I hope he can stick with it. I just found out today even his mom wants nothing to do with him. I’m such a soft fool.

Hey good news about your jack.

Hopfully he will suprise every one.

He’s already surprised me. He’s off to his second day of the job, which means two things–he passed his informal test the first day, and that he might actually be able to stick with it.

Daughter and I are off for this weekend’s throwing. Think I’ll have her try some wind and turn drills this time, besides the 1 turn throws.

We’re getting a new Bryce this weekend. Reports are not favorable, but I’m trying to keep an open mind…

Good luck with the Bryce. How old is he? Fingers are still crossed, but things are going good with the Jack so far. Just finished his second day on the job and is supposed to be added to the permanent schedule starting next week. We do have to watch him around our phones, He’s got a pseudo girlfriend that consumes a lot of his attention and causes him to do stupid things. We are trying to get him to wait 3 months before anything serious. That’s when she turns 18.

Throwing was good today, my daughter got a new pr of 59’ in the hammer, just from 2 winds and a release. I was having her relax and feel the rhythm, to work with the weight rather than trying to force it. Also had her thinking about the low point and how it should come before zero degrees. Her 1 turn throws were not there today, so I scratched the wind and turn drills. She needs work on the footwork of a 1 turn throw before she tries them again.

I took 30 throws with the shot, 5 stands, 5 half spins and 20 full spins, got one out close to 15m. 20 throws with the hammer, 4 at 152’ or 46.25m, only 4 less than 140’ or 42.5m. Finished up with 5 50m sprints (if you can call 8.5s for 50m sprinting) and 3 sets of 6 consecutive jumps, between 46’ and 48’ total distance on all three sets.

He’s 11, same as my son. He’s supposed to be a bit of a rough customer, but his visit was without incident.

He’s not used to “please” and “thank you”, but if he comes over enough perhaps he’ll thaw a bit on that.

“Giving souls are a gift to the world.” Or in this case, just to these young lads. I know where you can get a Z-man cheap. Maybe when you open your Track and Field summercamp, I’ll apply for a job retrieving those giant ball bearings you throw around!
Yeah, I’m pretty into the sport too…look forward to your videos soon.

4/27

Snatch: 60/3, 65/3, (70/3)2
Squat: 80/5, (92.5/5)2
Bench: 60/5, (70/5)5
Snatch High Pull: (80/5)2
Jump Squats: (20/6)2

Quick and easy. Even felt easy which is unusual for the first day of the recovery week. Working on keeping my shoulders high and back during the first pull.

4/28

Cleans: 62.5/3, 72.5/3, (82.5/3)2
Jerks: 62.5/3, 72.5/3, (82.5/3)2
Front Squats: 75/5, (87.5/5)2
Push Press: 50/5, (60/5)2
Clean Dead Lifts: (107.5/5)2
Step Up with Jump Thingies: (BW/6)2

Felt more like early recovery week this time. Joints were still screaming at me untill second set of cleans. Finally got warmed up, last two sets of cleans were sharp. Jerks a little shaky. The rest was pretty easy.

4/30

Snatch: 60/3, 65/3, (70/3)2
Squats: 80/5, (92.5/5)2
Bench: 60/5, (70/5)2
Snatch Dead Lifts: (90/5)2
Box Jumps: (BW+10lbs/6)2

Only the benches and dead lifts felt right. Need better sleep. Spent much of last night squirting dyed water of various temperatures into clear water of various temperatures for the 7 year old’s science project.

I like the technical breakdown of the science project

nice work.

Thanks kmc.

5/1

Clean and Jerk: 65/3, 75/3, (82.5/3)2
Front Squats: 75/5, (90/5)2
Push Press: 50/5, (60/5)2
Clean High Pulls: (95/5)2
Continuous Snatches: (40/6)2

Everything was strong and sharp except for the last set of high pulls and first set of continuous snatches. Lost focus for a bit I guess. Continuous snatches are power hang snatches starting with the bar at hip height, immediately after catching one snatch, you drop the bar to hips and start the next rep with no pause.

Think I’ll throw weight and shot tomorrow, discus and hammer with the daughter on Sunday

Carl have you seen this?
I saw it after college at a wrestling clinic
the presenter was somehow involved found it on youtube.
it is crazy… 4 parts.
this man is a stud.

Carl, do you catch these with straight legs and small press out ??? say from top of head ??

kmc, I’ve seen some of his stuff where hes does some incredible jumps, but not these. I agree, the man is a stud.

Terry, No pressout, knees bend just enough to catch the weight, only a little bit on the 40 kg snatches.

Throwing 5/2

Shot: warmup 5 stands, 5 half spins. 25 full spins. never found the positions today, best throws were barely over 13m.

Weight: (25lb) 1 wind and release, felt good, so 5 1 turn throws, best of ~16m, 10 2 turn throws, best of ~17.5m, 10 3 turn throws, best of ~18.25m.

sprints: 5x50m, no time, but felt more stable and faster than last week.

Judging by the shot, my explosiveness was off today, but the 18.25 weight throw ties my pb. Don’t know what’s going on. Wanted to get some video, but departure this morning was rushed, so I didn’t have time to gather up the stuff.

5/3 Throwing

Discus: 4 stands, 10 full spins. Its been since last october since I’ve thrown discus, so I figured I’d better take it easy. Did work a bit on one technique point: staying longer on the left foot at the end of the throw. It seems its just a matter of timing, releasing the throw a fraction of a second later than you want to. Best throws were about 140ft, 42-43m. Forearm on my right arm was screaming.

Hammer: Lost track of the throws. Had both my daughter and my 7 year old son throwing with me today. 7 year old (since its his first time throwing) set a pr of ~30 feet with the 2kg hammer, off of two winds and a release. He’s barely 4 feet tall, and only weighs about 45 lbs, so the 2kg hammer on a 38" wire is quite a challenge, just to keep it from pulling him over and to keep it from bouncing off the ring. The daughter only took about 3 throws and spent the rest of the time playing.

For myself, probably ~30 throws, most between 42 and 45m with a couple down at 40m and one I snuck in at ~48m. Video later if I can get it off the camera.

5/4 Weightlifting

Snatch: 60/3, 67.5/3, 75/3, 80/3 85/3, 90/3, 95/2 close, but missed the third rep on the set with 95.
Squats: 85/5, 100/5, 112.5/5, 115/5, 117.5/5 last set was a killer.
Bench: 65/5, 75/5, 85/5, 87.5/5, 90/5 routine
Snatch High Pull: (95/5)3 very explosive, good positions.
Jump Squats: (40/6)3

Heavy week starting out strong. Kind of surprising with all the throwing this weekend.

How the heck do you edit the thread title? Video of the throws may take a while. Two hours of editing video files just went down the tube.
