I finally got my 600 today! I haven’t posted in this thread before, but figured I would just for the heck of it. Of course, it was only a gym lift and won’t be official til my meet at the end of June

Congrats Dave and Chase!

Thanks Matt. I’m looking forward to this meet - it’ll be hilarious… I’ll be squatting in full gear (double ply briefs, suit, knee wraps), but benching and deadlifting raw =p

You got a meet planned? I know you just came off one, and your numbers looked awesome.

Sweet man, can’t wait to see the vid.

I was thinking of doing the USAPL RAW Nationals, but decided against it. I’d only have 10 weeks of training since my last meet and I’m only really interested in some serious PRs.

I’m thinking around 5 months from now or sometime in December. What meet are you doing?

Might not be a video… I’m going to be the only person from my team there. Everyone else bailed out :frowning: It’s going to be the APF Summer Bash in Chicago. Should be a good time - hopefully, some big names will show up.

After that’ll be WABDL Collegiate Nationals in St. Louis in late September. What meets were you looking into?[/quote]

Ahhh…you should pay someone to tape it.

Nothing specific as of yet. Preferably a USAPL meet though as I’ve come to really like what they stand for and their high standards of judging.

I’m planning on doing the USAPL Ohio State Championships Nov. 15. It’s in Cleveland, Ohio. It’s pretty much the last USAPL meet in the East (except for one in Florida on the same day) until the new year. I will pull 600 at that event, or I will fall on a sword. It would be nice to squat a 500, too.

Hmmm…I may consider that. I think that the timing would be almost perfect.

585x1 PR, 605x1 PR…Two records in one night. Life is good, and looking at a 1500+ raw total at 220 come August.

I haven’t posted for a while, as I have been traveling and haven’t had a lot of DL workouts lately. This past Friday, I pulled a new pr of 565. It came up quite fast and I felt I had more in the tank but I tweaked my right hamstring warming up at 495. After I felt my hamstring, I decided to try one more pull and jumped to 565. My leg hurt worse or I would have attempted 585. I’ll wait a couple of weeks and give it a go. It felt really good to make that pull, I had been stuck there too long.

I don’t want this thread to die and get buried.

Nice job to those that have since hit 600.

I finally deadlifted with no pain for the first time and it went fairly well. I did deficit deads off a 3 inch block.
245x5
315x5
385x3
435x1
455x1
It felt good and I had more in me. It’s time for me to get back into pulling and knock down 600.

Nice PR Shawn.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better malonetd…don’t worry, the thread won’t die, but I’m not updating until I get some more PRs to report back with.

First time back in gear this week… Haven’t pulled sumo in about 8 weeks because I popped something in my hamstring. I ended up just pulling a solid 507lb 3x2 today.

They were super easy. I’m hoping to pull 260kg (575lb) in my comp next month at 198. If I can do that then I’ll try and take a run at 600 again before the summer’s out.

IainK, just saw the results. Congrats mate.

So, there has been a million other “how do i make my grip stronger” threads… some I have even given advice on, but I need help and I need it from others around my level of strength.

Supposed to hit 525x2 today and I PRETTY MUCH got it, (read: didn’t) because I lost my grip on rep 2, the weight honestly flies up and is almost easy, but I just lose my grip at the top, I use an alternating grip with chalk and the knurling is pretty sharp (sumo style), and honestly my grip has never been an issue before-

Having done farmers walk training for strongman in past and my 545 deadlift in comp was easy to hold… any ideas? Also, any quick fixes? I am supposed to hit 555x2 next week and I feel if I used straps or something I could nail it because my legs and back are strong, but obviously thats not allowed in contest and not something I want to start using.

In my opinion, the best grip work for dead lifting is just holding a heavy barbell. DOH works fine because you don’t need to use as much weight. At the end of a session, put the bar in a rack just below the height you will hold it at. Pick a weight you can hold for about 20-30 seconds with a double overhand grip. Pick it up and hold it 2-3 times for max time. I had grip problems when I first starting deadlifting, I did this for a few months until my grip caught up, and since then my grip has never failed on a deadlift and I don’t do hardly any direct grip work.

LOL Thanks Hanley! I actually left a lot on the platform but still pb’d my total. Particulary the squat as I stupidly missed my opener on depth so decided to go conservative. I don’t think I did a true max lift all day! Nailed my 1st offical 600lbs pull too. I even had time to showboat a bit whilst doing it  I’ll post vids when my mate sorts them out.

It was in the backend of nowwhere but the venue was good.

As, of June 22nd. 2008. DeadLift Max. stands at 575.2 LBS. Now on to the Big 600lbs…The deadLift Rules…Done Conventional at a WABDL Meet…

They’re some really good numbers for not going all out.

I went up to check it out on Sunday and my overriding impression was that is was a VERY poorly run competition with some VERY dodgy judging.

I could believe how long they left the lifters sitting in their shirts while there was some trouble with Rick’s attempts.

And then attempting to change from the leoko comp bar to some gym bar mid deadlift flight wasn’t another gaff I couldn’t believe.

Do you think training with straps will make you miss at the meet? I mean, you only have to do a single right, so maybe it won’t be a problem.

Hit 525 on Monday. I am still a few miles away, but I am moving forward. Slow and steady…steady and slow

yea, I think this coming week I am going to try to pull the 555x2 with wrist straps just chilling on my wrists, try to pull it on my own the first rep and if I miss or feel my grip getting weak, I will strap up for the second rep. I also went in yesterday and did some barbell holds, will lay off them until saturday and see what happens

Strangely, sometimes I feel like grip is a mental thing.

Anyway, good luck. What are you aiming to pull in your next comp?

well, that really depends on what contest I do, my current ed coan training cycle should end here in about 3 weeks, late july at some point, and should give me a 585 deadlift, that leaves maybe a month before the contest I THINK I will do (figuring out if I feel like shelling out 125 bucks to do a local w.a.b.d.l qualifier where I dont even get to squat, if i do that month of time makes me think I should shoot for 600, but I am not sure what type of training cycle I can do for 1 month.

I also got to figure out: i compete at 165 usually and shed weight for the contest, with my current pr being 545 at 165, well I weight 177 right now and am pretty damn lean and I am wondering if i should just stay at the 181’s. but thats an entirely different thread altogether.

I did go fot it, but it turned out I could av done more!

Yes the sunday was strange. Sat was overall well organised but due to the small number on sun they seemed to ‘switich off’. I have never seen that low number of lifters take so long to get done.
